What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are making Gang Beasts available through Steam Early Access to fund development of the full game and build a community that is directly involved in informing and supporting the production of the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have not set a release date for the full version of Gang Beasts, we plan to make new content, stages, character body shapes and sizes, and game modes for each Early Access release, we will review significant updates and plan for a specific full release date when the number of stages, character types, game modes, character customisations, and other content to be included in the game is finished.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will play similarly to the Early Access versions but with a full character customisation system, new stages and environments, additional character body shapes and sizes, a single player and 2 to 4 player co-op story mode (with multistage sub-boss and end boss fights), complex AI enemies, numerous game and tournament modes, and various mini-games to play.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version of the game is a local multiplayer game with limited support for solo play (a full single player and 2 to 4 player co-op story mode is planned), there are 16 playable stages in the current version with support for 2 - 8 player gang fights.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access price is the same price we plan for the full game (excluding discounts and promotions).”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want the Early Access community to inform the development of the game, specifically we want to have ongoing dialogues with the community about the game to help us identify and prioritise the key features, content, and modifications that need to be added or made and to make sure Gang Beasts as fun as it can be.”

Patch notes for the Gang Beasts 0.4.4 “unstable” build

The list of modifications and fixes made in the 0.4.4 "unstable" alpha build are:

  • added infrastructure for VOIP to be enabled in a coming build (when initial testing on the the push to talk system has finished)
  • added the framework for supporting additional multiplayer game modes (some additional work is needed before the first examples of other game modes can be made available for play testing)
  • added server modifications to support cross play between Steam Early Access and Oculus Early Access builds
  • added messaging to the root menu (for contexts when no connection to the central server can be established)
  • fixed an issue with the quick join setting that could potentially make multiple connections to a server (making the loading / interstitial screens hang)
  • modified the quick join setting to address an issue where scenes could load with missing geometry
Online Support on Steam Early Access

Online gameplay in Gang Beasts is currently supported in the "unstable" alpha builds on Steam Early Access (online support will be added to the default Steam builds when the local multiplayer versions of the 'buoy' and 'fans' stages have been restored to the game).

Character Movement and Concussion Times

There are currently a number of discrepancies / issues that make the recent "unstable" builds differently with older builds, we will be working to standardise the control scheme and concussion system in the "unstable" builds soon when online support is added to the default Early Access builds.

Information on switching to / from "stable" and “unstable” branches

To download the ‘unstable’ branch on Steam right-click on the ‘Gang Beasts’ game name on the Steam library page and select 'Properties' from the window that opens, from this window select the 'BETAS' tab and then the 'unstable' option from the dropdown menu (the menu labelled 'Select the beta you would like to opt into:’. To revert back to the last 'stable' branch select 'NONE- Opt out of all beta programs' from the same menu.

For reference switching between 'unstable' and 'stable' branches of the game forces the selected build to download to the Steam client (replacing the previously selected build).

Patch notes for the Gang Beasts 0.4.3 “unstable” build

The list of modifications and fixes made in the 0.4.3 "unstable" alpha build are:

  • baked lighting in the ‘elevators’ stage
  • fixed a gaze targeting issue on the character select screen
  • modified Steam IDs to only show when triggered (with the input mapped to show Steam IDs)
  • modified the scrolling implementation in the server browser screen

  • temporarily added a round timeout to end rounds at 5 minutes (we plan to review the timeout implementation / length when stage escalations are fully implemented)

  • temporarily modified the default game logic to a single win per stage (to reduce spectating), we plan to support the previous logic and modified logic concurrently in a coming build
Please note there is no "stable" alpha build release with this post, the next stable release will be published soon (when the 'buoy' and 'fans' stages have been restored to the default local game mode).

Online Support on Steam Early Access

Online gameplay in Gang Beasts is currently supported in the "unstable" alpha builds on Steam Early Access (support for online gameplay in the default Gang Beasts Early Access builds is scheduled for a later stage of development).

Information on switching to / from "stable" and “unstable” branches

About This Game

Gang Beasts is a silly local multiplayer* party game with surly gelatinous characters, brutal mêlée fight sequences, and absurdly hazardous environments.

Watch in horror and amusement as gangs of floppy antagonists grab, push, pull, and shove their enemies from permanently suspended window-cleaning scaffolds, unattended ferris wheels, and commercial haulage trucks.

Gasp with shock and delight at the spectacle of stupidly pugnacious thugs punching, kicking, and throwing their foes into unspecified hazardous machinery, flaming incinerator pits, and the paths of moving trains.

* Support for online multiplayer game modes is in testing in the 'unstable' Steam Early Access builds but is not available in the default Steam Early Access game currently ('unstable' builds are accessed by selecting "Unstable - Most recent fixes / content builds" from the BETAS tab of the Gang Beasts game properties in the Steam Client).

Loved it before this most recent patch 0.4.2/0.4.1

This game was the HIGHLIGHT of our parties. We would be screaming at 2am and everything. Im talking about 20-30 nerds all lining up to play this game, this is only played at our parties when everyone is over.

But since this new update came out, we all slowly started hating the game. It drastically changed how the game is played. Now everyone can't stand it due to the fact that they made it literally impossible to knock out each other, games now last 10 mins sometimes just trying to hit each other and the fact that the recovery time is 2 seconds or less. You can't even scale walls now, the climbing has been made "stupider" and the movements are just limited. Before we were able to knock each other out and be able to toss and earn that knock out, and even climb on maps like elevators/girders and have epic wall battles. We actually get tired playing the ♥♥♥♥ing game now and have to take "hand stretch breaks" after mashing the buttons so much because no one stays knocked out or you can't even knock them out. I have no clue wtf the devs were thinking.

They need to create some type of menu that allows people to adjust if how hard the players can hit or some type of knock out timer and climbing factor. The fact that everything is just "up in the air" frustrates us especially with how bad the most recent update has been. Everyone can now just grab and sucide, no one is scared to get knocked out because its really hard to knock out people now, so just grab and jump off.

The fact that its also been 2 years and limited maps or not allowing users to create new maps is a bit frustrating as well. I've rather them forget the online crap and just focus on creating more maps/content for what it was really intended and even working on making 8 players easy and not making everyone jump through loops to get that to work. This game is expensive as hell too for $20, and how limited it is?

This is my first review and I never want to do them but this update has literally drove me to write one. I seriously hope they make a menu for more customization in how the knockout/climbing/grappling system works or at least let some of us revert back to the old versions because none of us can stand this new version. No offense but to anyone who thinks this is good currently hasn't been playing since the beginning thats for sure or just one of those "i saw it on twitch and it look fun, i play it for 1 hr and give it a thumbs up" reviewers.

If they keep this new style of hard to knock out and weak climbing - I wouldn't recommend unless you like ruining your hands and controller mashing for hours.

If they actually change it back or give users option to revert/modify the knockout/climbing/grappling and start adding more ♥♥♥♥ I'll recommend it but other then that I feel like the devs are just lazy and don't pay attention. Its been 2 years, not including its prealpha stages (google it, its been on PC for longer than 2 years...) At least let users crreate ♥♥♥♥ or something if you are gonna give up devs!

PS
We don't want LEGACY, we want the 0.3.x series, that was the best one. Legacy is too old and the joke is..we went back to it and it has a better LAYOUT then currently and even looks better...wtf is that about loll....

I LOVED THIS GAME!!! Its the reason i built my PC and it was the go to party game everytime i had friends over. So it sucks that the last update makes me want a complete refund with interest because i feel like someone stole my favorite game and left me with a pile of ♥♥♥♥. Everything fun about the game was changed, taken away, and ruined.

1. Knockouts are impossible and useless because before they hit the ground they are back up and hitting you, leaving you no time to taunt or do naughty things to their lifeless body [the best part]
2. They added some lame ♥♥♥ wonky auto aim or target system so you lose the full control of your character which used to allow you to perform funny taunts, attacks, and maneuvers and you are now just a mindless zombie punching at nearest enemy.
3. Climbing and fighting from the walls, roofs, ledges, is no longer possible so now you are stuck fighting on the ground and being lame as ♥♥♥♥. Flying dropkicks and belly flops from the top of the level were the only way to accidentally suicide and be proud of yourself at the same time
4. Wave mode is taken out so now if my friends arent over im as lonely as my character on the subway level with no one to throw him on the train tracks :'[ 5. The fact that they wasted their time on some lame ♥♥♥ scoreboard screen in between matches that just makes it a longer wait time to get back to killing your friends pisses me off. WHO CARES WHO WON? WE ALL JUST TAUNT AND SUICIDE AFTER WE WIN ANYWAY!!! [its not a competition, its a drunken bar fight simulator in super dangerous places] I need the old GANG BEASTS back even if it means i wont get any future content because a future with this gang beasts means alot of refunds and sad people

It constantly crashes when I try to play it, sometimes I've managed to actually get to a stage but none of the commands work. Plus, of course, a friend and I purchased it for the multiplayer we seen online, yet it's not available for the public yet. It's awefully boring by yourself, extremely glitchy, and can't be played multiplayer yet.

At first it was fun to play with friends locally, but I have had this game for almost a year and the developers have yet to add any new content. Theres only a few maps and it gets repetitive after a while. It is fun to play every now and then, but it doesn't look like developers care too much anymore. Cannot recommend, especially for $20. I got a fever...and the only prescription is more content!

This game is incomplete and should not have been released. There is no way to play multiplayer with your friends or host a private server. I would not get this if your buying this game to play with your friends.

Game has been amazing since I picked it up, and that was before releasing online multiplayer to the unstable build. Even though there's not much of a score or time keeping system in place it's still beautiful. Online multiplayer is the only reason I'm playing it again.

The best experience to have sexual intercourse with your friends or families. Drag their asses through a freaking fence and as you sexual put in your friend or families. Now move on as you venture into the intense orgasam of your mother, through the tip of our wiener, venture into the sexual game "Gang Bang" Only on PC, Require controller, MADE IN CHINA.

This game gives you special characther just to put some more $ inside the creators butt. you get to choose between the "confused Asian sell out woman" and the viking from the Yogcast or whatever, and some wierd ♥♥♥ mafia.

I`ll give this game a 9 out of 10 ejeculation shot to the face, and a link to 2 girls 1 cup

I have no words for how stupid this game is. But a good stupid. The type of stupid where you laugh until you can barely breathe. And the glitches.. They are amazing. They just make the game that much more hilarious.
Seriously though, buy it if you have friends, it's the perfect party game. Can't wait for the story mode.
BTW, I know it's very laggy on online and the menu looks bad, but remember it's still in early access.

10/10 would do a backflip off of a gondola again while my legs are so long, stretchy and glitchy that you can't see them anymore.

Gang Beasts is extremely fun for local play. You don't have to be good at videogames to enjoy this game, because you pretty much just mash buttons and hilarious stuff happens.

Desperately punching and kicking at someone who has you lifted up over their head as they drop you over a cliff is awesome.
