What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We know that creating significant and meaningful on the eSport scene is no small task and this is why that we have involved the players community since the very beginning of the development (when there was no menu or options... Or texture )!
While there is still much to be done, we believe that our game is now ready to enter a new phase and we are ready to open our game to more through early access and use this opportunity to make it reach its full potential!”

How long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until we reach a level where we can confidently organize pro-caliber tournament!
We expect it to take somewhere between 6 months and 1 year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

  • Less gameplay & connexion bugs
  • Better performance optimisation
  • Better lag management
  • Team system
  • Ranked mode
  • New characters
  • New implants
  • Improved spectator mode
  • Voice acting for characters
  • Dedicated servers
  • As well as other choices based on choice from the community playing the game!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Core gameplay and meta-game are ALPHA. Fun is definitely there!
Still a lot of small bugs and visual polish to be done.
A few important features missing (team, rank, spectator mode).”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No!
Arena: Cyber Evolution is FREE and will always remain so. :-)”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community is already actively part of Arena: Cyber Evolution since the very beginning (even when the game was so early it looked like an atari 2600 game). Here are a few initiatives already in place to interact with our players:
  • Daily design meeting on our Twitch channel (7PM ET every week day)
  • Open discussion about the design and development on our Steam forum
  • Our design documents are open and available for the community to see
  • Our entire development now archived on Youtube
  • Many people of our community take active part in the project (community management, QA, event organization, design, etc)
  • Supporters will get to vote for the next features we develop!

ACE Update v0.6 Notes and Announcement

After one month of receiving valuable feedback from the community, we have identified many, many improvements that need to be done to bring ACE to next level. Some of these changes are massive and require many weeks of work.

We have been releasing updates on a weekly basis, but this is quite time-consuming and affects the quality of the work being done on the aforementioned massive changes. The next Steam push is planned for end of October and we are more than determined to make it count. Hence we have decided to interrupt weekly updates so we can fully concentrate on these core improvements and really make a meaningful push!

See you soon... on dedicated servers!

P.S. If you are interested in seeing and testing the daily updates to ACE, follow the instructions here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/285580/discussions/0/558749824989666675/.

Patch notes v0.6

- Created ''Caster Mode'' for this weekend's tournament

ACE Update v0.5 Notes

Arena: Cyber Evolution v0.5 Update
---------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW RUNNER - CAPTAIN SMOKE
A new runner has entered the arena! Captain Smoke is the poster boy of the local peacekeeping solutions offered by InSec.
Combining his nerve gas and his trusty Drones, he can control and pacify the most unruly crowds.

ABILITIES
- Right-Click: Launches a gas grenade at a location and significantly slows down all opponents hit by the gas.
- Spacebar: Launches a drone that will try to control the ball, pass to you and your team, and score goals.

Captain Smoke is free to play this week, so test away and please report any bug you find in the Steam forums!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

COMMUNITY-REQUESTED CHANGES
- Further clarified which characters and hats are locked (not owned) in the lobby.
- Removed the video that played in the background of the menu. This is now a static image, which should greatly improve performance in the menus on lower-end computers.
- Matchmaking will now search for 180 seconds instead of 120 seconds before filling the rest of the spots with bots.
- Removed the high-pitch 'hum' in the ambient menu sound.
- Reduced the power of the Grab Range implant.

COMMUNITY-REPORTED BUG FIXES
- Parties should not longer get split across different teams when joining a game. If a game does not have room for your entire party to be on the same team, another game will be joined instead.

OTHER FEATURES/CHANGES
- Free Runner Rotation is now implemented. The Negociator and Vengeful Star will always be free to play, but an additional two Runners will be available for free and will rotate on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This week's free rotation is VexWrecker and Captain Smoke.
- Updated all the "off-screen" thumbnails displayed when Runners are out off-camera during gameplay.

About This Game

At Spearhead Games, we believe that e-sports are the next step in international competition. We believe that this growing trend is on the verge of becoming mainstream globally and will play a significant role in defining the future of sports.

Arena: Cyber Evolution is the result of our passion for this phenomenon and what it can become.
We know that creating a game that is significant and meaningful on the e-sport scene is no small task and this is why that we have involved the player community since the very beginning of the development, when there were no menus, options, or even textures!

Arena: Cyber Evolution (ACE) is a futuristic physics-based sports game in which players confront each other in 3 vs 3 matches of wits and twitch reflexes.
By featuring a MOBA-like champion logic, ACE brings an unprecedented twist to the sports genre by allowing players to choose from a variety of super-powered heroes and what style of gameplay they prefer to build their own team strategies.

Designed from the ground up around the mouse & keyboard, ACE was not envisioned only as a sport game, but really as a new sport.

ACE’s ultra-precise control scheme allows players to analogically manipulate the disk using simple mouse gestures.

Just like in real sports, this gameplay allows for super intuitive gameplay while proposing nearly infinite depth & skill cap.

  • An unique blend of action games, sports games and MOBA.
  • The closest experience to playing a traditional sport in a video game.
  • Dynamic physics-based gameplay that is both deep and accessible.
  • Innovative mouse gesture control allows for fluid and natural actions (passes, shots, intercepts and jukes).
  • Having all human players makes positioning meaningful and allow for infinite team strategies.
  • Several characters each with unique powers and play styles
  • Unlock implants (to improve and customize your characters), team boosts, upgrades, and special abilities.
  • Very fun to watch as a spectator - even without prior knowledge of the game.
  • New characters, implants, custom arenas, events, challenges, and much more coming soon! New updates every month!

Arena: Cyber Evolution is free to play and we want it to stay this way forever. We believe that it should be at the core of any sport to be accessible for everyone to play and practice no matter what.
As an independent game studio, we however need some money to keep developing the game and improving it.

This is why we integrated monetization features in the game with the possibility to buy skins, hats and other customizations with real money. For us, this is a simple way to allow players who really enjoy and believe in the game to support its continued development by ‘’donating’’ and receiving rewards for it.

All the money received this way will be used to fuel the game development. Based on how much we collect through monetization, we will develop the features listed in our stretch goals.

In addition to the items available in-game, the following great packages are available as DLC:

Supporters Pack DLC

Depending on how long you've been gaming, you will either see this game as yet another future team sports game, or the first of its kind. The genre had been done to death by the late 80's/early 90's, but this game has online multiplayer which sounded like fun.

Unfortunately, there is rarely anyone online. The most it's ever shown is one person online as it spent 3 minutes trying to connect a game unsucessfully. For all I know, that one person was just me. In short, MP is pretty much a no-go depending on which time zone you are in. I'm yet to find anyone else to play with.

This leaves you to play against the bots, which would be fine if you had any control over your own team. Unfortunately, you only control one player or at least try to with the slow and clunky controls, but that doesn't matter as your team rarely pass to you anyway. You are left running around on your own as one hogs the disk while your goalie usually ends up as the highest scorer... for the other team. Lots of own goals.

First rule of team sports games - The player controls whoever has the "ball" or at least has the ability to pass to and from bots. Otherwise its just BORING.

Without the inability to switch players on your team or even find anyone online, it's just not fun at all and there's really nothing new here.

I wanted to like this game, and as it's still in early development, there's lots of room for improvement. As it is though, it's still pretty buggy, low on content, lacks any depth and has microtransactions for useless gear.

I can't recommend this to anyone.

I really wanted to try out this game more, after having fun in tutorial, but sadly I couldn't. Why? There were no players. Spending almost hour on looking games on half of day is enough to say that almost nobody plays this game, so if you don't have a friends to play with, don't even try it, because it's waste of time.

Game does not even start. Just to start the game you must connect to a server. I was unable to do so. Developers have no concept of basic game design. To requre loging into a server to even start the game is a shamfull act of retardation.

Although it has a small community as I make this post, this game is simply amazing. The concept of a third person futuristic hockey/soccer game not only sounds radical but IS radical. I hope the community for this game expands, as I know it will, because this game honestly deserves it. Behind every great game is a great team of developers, and that is true with Project Cyber and Spearhead Games.

11/10. Would play all day.

I like Arena Cyber Evolution a lot, I think its one of the best "sports" games out there, even at the stage its at now. I dont think I have ever seen a better candidate for an e-sport. and while Arena cyber Evolutions sure does not pull it off now, I bet that it would if the devs got the funding to do so. It may look it but Arena Cyber Evolution is NOT a MOBA, it does not play like a MOBA and nce you get in game you will see it doesn't even look much like a MOBA either. My only issues with the game so far are that there are not many characters and the characters they have are a bit grindy to unlock. there are no servers for the game its mostly peer to peer, so rage quits are a problem at this point in time. There is also only one arena or map currently to play on.

It is lucky then all these Negative aspects described above are addressed in the stretch goals, with certain amounts of funding they will be adding more content and things like servers, and voice acting. The developers also have stated that they will be adding new characters every few weeks after launch, I dont know how this will turn out yet, but I am hopeful.

I think this 3v3 Sporty action game is most definitely worth your time, and I recommend you play it if you are a fan of any genre, its got that wide of a net. The game play is addictive as well so you might just feel hooked! There are not a lot of layers in game yet, so if you like Arena Cyber Evolution be sure to spread the word. This game is a game I want to see successful.

Not a bad game, but definately need to have a bot replace teammates when they rage quit or at least penalize them in some way. Kinda sucks when your goal tender bails & leaves your net open.

This game is amazing, even in early development it is the most fun game I own (of 226 on steam alone). Seriously. Stop reading this. Get it. Now. Have you got it yet? Why not? I told you to stop reading. Go get it. NOW!

Early Access

Pros:

Fun game
Basic control schemes and gameplay
Its for to play
It's a nice sport game
Very simple to learn so it all comes down with skills and precision regardless to what character you play as
Many characters to play as with different specials and skills
Plays better on gamepads

Cons:

Frame drop issues ingame and specially on the menu
few options
there's no control schemes for the gamepad even though it actually works

This game has potential to enter not only a solid multiplayer game but also on competitive mode or even career mode if the devs chooses to
