X: Tension is a old, classy space simulator, where you are thrown in a big, opened universe, which is settled by alien races which have stations, patrol ships, transporters. There are also pirates, who trade with weed & booze, and hunt down freighters.
You, as a player, will find yourself in the middle of universe, in friendly space of Argon Federation, sitting in a small vessel called "Buster". Your reputation is neutral with all races (except for the Xenons), so you can do what you want (your budget is your only real limit).
You can trade wares (based on demand and offer), fight enemies, build your empire, do missions for people, explore the universe. And be a pirate.
This really is the king of all sandbox games (if we don't count other X games).
There's also a short story, a set of missions, which will take you into the investigation of a stolen Paranid prototype. Be warned however, there are two extremly difficult fighting scenarios, and by saying "difficult", I totally mean it. Completing them took several reloads, and I had to leave the mission to build several M3 escorts to help my personal M3.
Overall, I would give 8/10, because stations create profit extremly slowly, and the game runs terribly on Windows 8 (Windows 7 is fine).
