Despite being being only published by Artifex Mundi, not developed by them this feel very like what I have come to expect from their games. The art work is great and the puzzles are satisfying. The plot is not the most sophisticated but it is enough to keep you engaged. Some of the voice acting is a bit questionable but overall it is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.

While going through puberty stage, besides being a total prick most of the time, I was spending my time on lots of hidden object games. I don't know why but the food tasted better whenever I'd play hidden objects. Now that I'm a grown up that still depends on parents and their basement, I kinda stopped paying attention to hidden objects. Guess it's another thing I grew out of.
Needless to say, it's a nice story and suspence. You'll most likely enjoy this game if you're into this genre.

This game looks good and is enjoyable, but too easy to be really interesting.

Pros
  • Good graphics.
  • Good user interface.
  • Quick travel makes navigation really great.

Cons
  • The hidden object puzzles are really WAY too easy. None take more than 1 minute for a scene.
  • The game is rather short, but that's standard for this type of game.
  • The story is the usual floaty mystery style squarely aimed at girls/women (which I ain't).

Buy it in a bundle and play it on a rainy evening.

This is the first game I play from the HOG series. Really nice. I liked it and it was short (2h to finish it). It's a nice story but a little bored with so much go back and forth to click everywhere for my taste.

If I was looking for a new game to buy, I would probably never of bought this, however, I bought 5 randon Steam keys of ♥♥♥ and this game came with it. So I decided to play it and to my unexpecting surprise, the game was very enjoyable. The story was exciting and the characters was very likeable. The only downside of the game is the protagonist is sometimes very stupid. If you have £7.00 in your Steam wallet, I would recommend giving it a go. Or just spend it on CS:GO keys and get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ blues!

This is a really nice hidden object/puzzle game but with two big flaws. One is the story. There is nothing really wrong with the story in general, it's just that eveything is so obvious, there are puzzles that really makes you think, but there is as straight forward as a 3-piece comic strip. The second flaw is the length. It took me a little over 2,5h to beat this without hints. I would have liked a little more from the game, I know that it wasn't Artifex Mundi that were the developer, just the distributor of this game, but when you see their name on you expect a certain level of quality in it. But as I said, is a nice game, good artwork, sound and puzzles. The voice acting is a little wierd at times, but okey. Overall a nice game, just too short to be among the better hidden object games. 6.4/10

9 Clues is a short point and click game with amazing hidden objects scenes and great puzzles. The plot of the game isn't so fantastic and unexpected as it could be, but as others Artiflex games of this kind, this one has great graphics, nice sound track and provides a very good gaming experience.

The achievements in the game are very easy to get and the game has an interesting game mode called "detective mode" in which you have to identify proofs of a crime in a crime scene to reconstruct the actions of the criminal. Very interesting.

Artifex Mundi is known for delivering a lot of decent HO/P&C games and Secret of Serpent Creek is definitely not their best, but still a SOLID, ENJOYABLE one.

Although i'm a fan of the hidden object puzzle genre i did not enjoy this game.
The puzzles were dull and uninspiring, the story line (as far as any) was even duller.

I would not recommend picking this title up. There other hidden object games that are far more interesting.

Enjoyment: 1/5
Graphics 2/5
music: 1/5
Story: 0/5

I've seen some folks complain about the "cartoony" look, but I find that going with a traditionally animated look means they avoid the Uncanny Valley problem common with HOG. It also lets you turn voices off separate from other sounds. So, reasonably fun plot combined with above average interace means thumbs up!

This is my first time playing a hidden object game in a long time, and I enjoyed the experience - despite a couple of issues.

The puzzles and hidden object games are fun, but I would have liked a few more.

The story is nothing to write home about, but serves its purpose as a frame for the games.

Also, there is a fair amount of back-tracking or having to step back and forth between rooms to pick up relevant items, it feels like this was added to just pad out the length of the game rather than add more content.

I would also liked to have seen an option to change the resolution. On my 1080p monitor it doesn't look the best, but you can toggle off fullscreen and it looks great in windowed mode - however for those who prefer full screen the experience wouldn't be the best.

I was able to pick up this game on sale. Would I pay full price - maybe not. But for the price I paid I had a good time, and I would recommend this game only if you can get a discount for it.

Words cannot express the amount of regret I have for even getting this game in a byproduct of a Humble Bundle. With a plotline that could give a nonsequetor episode of Spongebob Squarepants a run for its money as far as the ability to engage anyone above a second grade reading level, calling this game a "murder mystery" is akin to calling a go-cart a road ready, fully functioning vehicle.

If this had been a gift, I'd have stopped talking to the person to gift it.

Not only are the "puzzles" shoddy at best, there's no question that this is a point-and-click game that does little more than engage you to blindly find the cat. find the rat. find the bat. Resist the urge to shoot yourself in the wallet and uninstall Steam entirely.

The voice acting sounds like someone pulled the most culturally offensive sound files of a drunken party in New Zealand and claimed it was British with American overtones. I'm not sure if the girl in the opening cutscene "screamed" or if she stubbed her toe and let out a weak whine while running from a snake monster that looks like Voldemort got a little too friendly with one of his pets and created the abomination that is the antagonist.

This game made me want to die.

9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek is another Artifex Mundi game – one of their early productions, working with a young developer team: Tap It Games. It is a decent HOG to keep you busy for 2-3 hours straight with a subtle taste for noire. It is not exceptional compared to the rest of Artifex Mundi collections, but it is refreshingly well-done for the HOG genre itself anyway.

Our character, a lady private eye comes to the little town of Serpent Creek to investigate the disappearance of her journalist friend, Helen during Serpent Creek's famous Serpent Festival. We are quick to notice that there is an obscene amount of serpentine references going about the town; alongside mysterious disappearances, earthquakes and zombie-like citizens. The story gets more and more complicated between a moody hotel manager, a veteran sheriff, a suspicious British guest and a disturbingly oblivious mayor... What to do?

While the character modelling is appealing in animation, the psychological portrayal and demeanor designs of characters especially take the cake on this one. They are definitely interesting and elegant enough to keep you interested with the story revelation. People look and act similar to cover arts for classical Nancy Drew books with an extra dose of eerie and suspicion about them. You keep second guessing about characters, tying them to any kind of dreadful business the moment you see them. I won't lie, the outcome is not extraordinary, yet the display is certainly worth your time. The background artwork is also pretty and comes strong on establishing atmospheres.

The game contains some of the more imaginative puzzles that I've encountered within genre, alongside some entertaining lock picking puzzles. What I especially liked was investigation scenes where we are expected to pick up some clues around to deduce the recent happenings within the room. Hidden object scenes were ordinary if not a bit too easy. The usage of the map, action indicators and its teleportation feature are all present to bring you a relief for achievement hunting.

All in all, the game is worth the money for a HOG gamer, or anyone looking for a time kill with both noire and mystical atmosphere. If it is on sale, even better.

In 9 Clues: The Secret of Serpent Creek you play as a detective that drove to a town called Serpent Creek in order to help Helen, a friend who is also a reporter. During the story you are going to witness odd things that you can’t really explain while also meet strange characters who speak in an odd way or just show a strange behavior.

In order to advance in the story you will have to get certain items weather to unlock doors, cut fences or disable some switches. To get these objects you must play a classic hidden object mini-game every now and then or you may have to solve puzzles who may test your intellect but in the end you won’t have to struggle much to understand them. It is possible to choose the difficulty setting to your liking so that you can go through the game without worrying about penalties if you click on the wrong object for instance. Contrary to what the creator states in the “Features” page of the game, the game really gives you a big clue of who is the bad guy and who’s not so don’t mind the “Breathtaking plot full of unexpected twists” because the plot is really easy to follow and it’s really obvious about the main villain.

If you want some light-gaming experience and you like to solve mysteries, with some side puzzles, the game can offer you around 2-3 hours if you play at a normal rate. There’s no replay value unless you missed some clues and want to go back and start again in order to find them all.

Definitely an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. I wouldn't pay £6 for it, but if you pick it up in a sale I would say it's worth it.

It's a point and click game, with puzzles to figure out and items to hunt for. Really good!

I thought this was a great game - especially for me - a casual adventure gamer. It was really my introduction to HO games - def recommended for the light gamer. I really enjoyed the story line and I thought that the graphics were very good. The storyline was very engaging - and it was definitely creepy at some points. I played my first round in Casual mode, but plan on playing again in the more advanced mode.
