"Excellent adventure RPG in the vein of Quest for Glory, featuring a female hero. Good enough to be considered a worthy successor to the original series."

About This Game

In desperation, the jarl of Jarnvidr has called for a Heroine, to stand against the forces of frost and put an end to the lasting winter. Her might, sorcery, and cunning may be humanity’s last resort. Are you up to the task, or will you die trying?

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is an adventure / RPG hybrid. Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through.

Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way.

The game is designed in the spirit and atmosphere of the classics, and strives to have the same high quality of art, music, and plot. With multiple character classes and several solutions to many puzzles for further replayability.

If I could recommend this twice, I would.

I grew up in the Sierra games era. A beautiful time to be a gamer. Truly. This game is quite the King's Quest homage.

If you enjoyed the awesomeness of Sierra's point-and-click adventures, buy this game. You will have ZERO regrets.

LOVE IT.

Wow.
I am an old time player of adventure games, but just like many other games around.

I must say:
This game is so well made.
It is much beyond Quest for Glory in many areas, while keeping its many qualities.
Not only a remake, but a large improvement.

All this gme is free?
I can't believe it.
At least I am sure the episode II will be well sold ;)

- Character Creation is very interesting and opens many possiblities.
- There seems to be a real adventure roleplaying engine involved ; "Quest for Glory" seems to be perfected.
- Pixel art is very well made.
- Gorgeous and epic music.
- Nice scripting and storytelling ; it feels like a good game master is in the room.

This game is so good! It has really funny and detailed dialogues and characters. Plus they are fully voiced! I love the class system, it really gives the game a lot of replay-ability. I have to say it is just a very refreshing game which brings back memories from playing D&D and older RPGs. From a design point of view it is well programmed and though out, well written and the attention to detail is wonderful! PLUS IT'S FREE! The only downside is it makes me wish this game existed with full HD graphics, though it's aesthetic is really well done in the retro style. Great game! I can't stop telling everyone how much I love it!

Been waiting for a game like this. Good old mix of adventure, RPG and sleuthing/puzzle solving a la Monkey Island. Very nice portrayal of Norse mythology. Combat takes a bit of getting used to, and you will likely die until you get the hang of hunger and hypothermia, but the deep and engrossing experience of the game is well worth the newbie frustration. Overall, highly recommended, go get it.

If you dug the old Quest for Glory / Hero's Quest series from Sierra, you should definitely take this gem for a spin. It's got the look, it's got the lore (deliciously Norse this go 'round), it's got the feel, it's got the puns. It's even got voice-acted speech. It's even got a hidden game of Tetris. It's also got what's probably my favourite combat system in a QfG game. All told, Heroine's Quest is every bit worthy of a spot in the realms of Gloriana.

Now if only that wizard were more Erasmus-like...

As a long-time fan of the Quest for Glory series (and all of Sierra's adventure games)
I have to say this game is outstanding. Everything about it is well-thought-out -
from the skill set (which is actually meaningful), to the music, the character art and speech...
Not to mention the very cool quests and puzzles, game logic, vast world lore and the story itself...
and even the combat system is pretty good, even though it's not as fun as QFG2 remake's combat system.

I had an amazing time playing this over and over, and I shall find myself replaying this many times more in the future.
That's a sign of a great game. Thank you guys at Crystal Shard, keep the fire burning! (:

My first introduction to PC gaming, I found HQ:tHoR easy to get into, and loved the story. It will always have a special place in my Steam Library (I mean heart).

With an amazing soundtrack and storyline you´ll find yourself back in the era were loki and thor were still fighting for daddys love while your heroine saves the world.
The game is set back in the norse mythology were a Heroine is called fort to stand against the brutal forces of the frost giant and put an end to the lasting winter.
The game as its funny moments that will surely make you laugh, such as the two headed troll Thrivaldi arguing with himself and the mighty rat of Doom that adds DOOM into every word is speaks.
Choosing between 3 classes, her might, sorcery and cunning may be humanity’s last resort.
Are you ready to adventure yourself in this epic adventure?
Or, will you die trying?

Heroine's Quest is a game that harkens back to the glory days of Sierra On-Line and pays homage to the Quest for Glory series by the same company. Right down to the use of skills, combat, and puzzle solving that made those games great. Using the Norse tale of Ragnarok as a basis but making it their own, Crystal Shard proves that you don't need flashy graphics and cutting-edge controls to make a gripping game. The fact that this game is free to play and has hours of fun, not to mention replay value utilizing three vastly different classes, you can't go wrong with this one. Add to it a female protagonist that's not purely eye candy and can hold her own and has a personality that you can relate to, you've got the making of a classic title here.

Such a great homage to the classic Quest for Glory games. I think the cold meter is something Lori and Cory Cole would have added to QFG2 as a Heat Exhaustion meter if they had thought of it. A perfect blending of classic gaming infused with a few new ideas.

And lastly, my favorite thing, it runs on my crummy computer.

Takes me back to the old days of playing King's Quest on an old MS DOS computer (voice acting like KQV). Fortunately the genre has made large strides in gameplay and this retro-look back has made sure to include some of these. It's a basically that retro point and click adventure that make reach an itch and I found the experience to be engaging, even those adverse to the genre might consider it's worth a look on a free-to-play model.

Oh my God. This is an AMAZING game. If you've played Quest For Glory, you should know what you're in for; an epic adventure based on a single mythology (Norse, in this case) full of quirky, likable characters and multiple-solution puzzles, as well as a little bit of grinding (but it's not that bad.) I haven't even beaten the first chapter, but I can already whole-heartedly reccomend this to anyone who's even a slight fan of point-and-clicks.

I'll be honest - this game starts out difficult. It's a hybrid point and click with live action elements and three different classes to play. Perks? It's a retro game that'll give you a good time if you try and it comes for free. Yes, this thing is free. All the characters I've met so far have been fully voiced, but that can be turned off if it isn't your thing. I'm interested to find out more about the world and the characters, and the graphics will run on damn near anything you care to play this on.

I just completed a Sorceress/Thief run of Heroine's Quest, and I have to say that this feels like just as much a Quest for Glory game as any other. Maybe even better... and it's FREE. Such a good game. The voice Acting is great too.
