About This Game

Desert Thunder is an arcade-style action tank game for the PC. Ripped from today’s headlines, the storyline immerses players into the heat of a desert-based military conflict. Players will tear through desert, urban and industrial settings in their experimental battle engine, the Abrams M1A6 Advanced tank that’s loaded with awe-inspiring devastating weapons and armored to near indestructibility. You are the commander of a top secret M1A6 experimental tank division in the Armor Task Force. Your mission was to lead the northern front of Operation Desert Thunder, a secret military operation to overthrow a terrorist faction that has taken control of a peaceful Middle Eastern country. Your mission has been compromised, your small battalion devastated. Left with no alternative, you must complete your mission to reach the capital city and rendezvous with allied forces.

This is a very simple and arcade like tank game. Think of a modern version of BattleZone from the 80's.

Easy to learn and pretty easy to win. There are some spots where you cannot just charge in, but that's a good thing. The bad thing are the soldiers. They are a little too powerful, arguably harder to kill than the tanks at times since they are tiny and can hit as hard as the tanks do.

I got this in a bundle, and as usual for my reviews, that is the price point for my recommending it. It's $10 at full price and that is way too high. Get it for $1-2 or less.

Meh. It's arcade tank game. If there was nothing similar on the market I would say go for it. But since you have World of Tanks for free, just forget about this.

Desert Thunder is an arcade tank shooter launched in 2003.

There isn't much more to tell, really. You just ride around in your tank, shoot people, shoot tanks, pick up some powerups and try not to ride on any mines, which is the hardest thing about the game. It seems like the developers really want you to drive over the mines because often you can't even ride passed them and they already explode if you're near.

There are like 8 missions, in which you're basically doing the same thing. There's not much of a story and no real reason to finish the game.

Touched a tree, it exploded. Touched a rock, it exploded. Touched a person, he did not explode. Game needs to be more consistent with its explosions.
