About This Game

Thousands of years ago six demon kings, known as the Revenants, ruled the world with an iron fist and bloody swords. Donning the bodies of mortal vassals, they could live in the realms of man forever. The great hero and warlock Harbinger was the only one who could stand up to their power. One by one he hunted the Revenants, taking their spirits and casting them into the Well of Souls. Alas, the Revenants survived. As a young man you will travel to meet your uncle in the town of Madrigal. There, your destiny draws you into the path that Harbinger trod - to confront the Revenants and banish their souls back to the Well forever. Your travels will take you far from Madrigal, to the ruined kingdoms of Horath, the ancient empire of Thardolin, and through the lost city of Talendrah. You will brave searing deserts and icy plains. You will have to seek answers among the living and the dead.

  • Customizable combat and magic system that can be as simple or as complex as you like.
  • Compelling story with many twists and turns will keep you hooked for hours.
  • Dynamic music, high quality voice acting, and more than one possible ending.

I spent more time trying to get it to run than actually playing it.

Dated as hell, and it doesn't hold up like a lot of other older games. I couldn't really bring myself to play it. Maybe there's gold hidden in there, but it is too tedious to dig up.

Worked perfectly as-is, just press play. Win 7 x-64 Nvidia GTX600m

Every single downvote for this game is basically some humpty playing on an unsupported system, and can't figure out how to make it work anyway.

Obligatory upvote to counteract their nonsense.

Actually a not too bad DnD game, haven't finished the game yet - I do intend to though, just thought I might drop down a review about it because I'm annoyed of the random crashes here and there....too bad it crashes occasionally under my windows 7 x64 Pro environment.....guess it's not 100% compatible with these newer OSs(and yes I am playing with compatibility mode enabled too - without it, it wouldn't even load).....or else it shouldn't crash at all.....or code was not optimized.....

There is also a bug that I've discovered, but that's not gaming breaking as I belive you can fix it by re-loading your save or let the game crash for you and restart or restart the game manually. hahaha It's the one where you enter the general store, town hall of that alchemist's place at Magdriel or something - can't remember the name nor how to spell it but it something like that(I don't pay much attention to area names....hahaha), and it just takes you right at the back of the town hall building and loops until the game crashes and you restart or re-load a save.....

Always play older games on their respective OS era or else you'll have issues like this, emulation is not perfect! Too bad I no longer have my windows 98 computer.....oh wait even if I did, steam wouldn't run, which means I won't be able to play this game.... because XP is the min OS required now...

An old and harcore RPG, it is difficult, especially in the beginning. Story is ok, but nothing extraordinary. You'll be banishing demons and undead a lot. Graphics were sub-par even in 2000 but the image may seem OK because of the today's pixelated graphics craze.

The best part of the game is combat, its animations look like motion capture. Magic is powerful, but both these activities require you to click mouse button a lot (and miss a button sometimes which can lead to a lost battle). There is no pause as far as I know.

To summarize, this is an old RPG with a couple of nice features. There is little reason to play it unless you played it 15 years ago like me and are feeling nostalgic at the moment :)

Game doesn't even open or run at all. From what I could learn from Google this is a common issue with people. Apparently the game isn't compatible with newer computer systems or some such nonsense. Either way, I just deleted it without even playing, after spending an hour trying to get it to open.

"Soulbringer" is a game of a dawn of CRPG, when there were no established formulas and forms. From the age of experiments. Therefore, it is unusual everything: combat system, design and, of course, plot and style. You won't find anything similar in any games in those years, nor modern.

Pros:
Gloomy atmosphere
Great art design and animations
Decent combat system
No pre-set classes
Somewhat open world (some locations open only along with the storyline)
Full and good dubbing

Cons:
Boring story
Annoying controls and camera

An old favorite from long ago. Compared to the similar games today it may seem slow but with patience this can be a rewarding game. The music and voice acting is very unique and adds to the overall atmosphere a lot. It can be difficult at times to find locations but back in the day that was the norm. I suggest to the older PC gamers who aren't afraid to show a little patience and understanding to this genre of game before they were super refined.

I swear I think Steam is attempting to nickle and dime me to death! I'm a serious retro gamer and this game is so awesome! I finished this game years ago, but I'm really looking forward to completing it again. FYI, the first time I played it I actually broke the game. The final boss is supposed to have it's health reduced to 25% and then runs to the last room, however I amped up my character so high that it killed the boss on the first meeting. When I ran to the second room there was nothing to do, no end movie or credits. I searched the web and figured out what I did and LAUGHED!!!! I ended up reloading an earlier save and taking it easier on the bad guy and was able to finish the game. I'm so looking forward to playing this again!

Pros:
+ Gloomy atmosphere
+ Great art design and animations
+ Decent combat system
+ No pre-set classes
+ Somewhat open world (some locations open only along with the storyline)
+ Full and good dubbing

Cons:
- Another fantasy game...
- Boring story
- Annoying controls and camera
- Worn clothes by the player's character are not shown in the game world, even with full mail armour he looks like an unarmoured peasant.

A surprising hidden gem, I recommend it to everyone who fancies cRPGs. It's not a great game, but it definitely is a decent one.

I have very fond memories of this game, and I wanted to play it again, I'm a pretty nostalgic guy and I enjoy playing games from my childhood every now and then. This game is pretty fun, the lore and the world feels gothic and pretty much dead at some parts, it has a heavy gloomy felling all over it, and it is good.

But there's an issue here with this partiucular version, since Infogrames closed and its IPs are scattered around different companies, no devs have appeared to patch this game.

It is technically unplayable on this given moment on my Windows 7 64 bit computer, I can't find a healthy way to fix the fps, the screen ratio, the sound and the unsurmountable amount of crashes, I wanted to play it and to feel this game again, but too bad that it is unplayable right now. A fanpatch won't come soon enough since this game is pretty underground and doesn't have a big old fanbase, probably most of the people that enjoyed it back then have now forgotten it.

For the moment, all that I can say is:
The game is good, it's fun, has some fun mechanics and good physics interactions for the time, the lore is extense, the world is vast with much to explore, the voice actors are pretty fine too. But...

Don't buy it if you don't own a old computer, you'll only be able to play it on older computers with Windows XP or earlier, or else, the uncompatibility issues will hit you hard.

This is a great game! I played it back in 2002 when it came bundled with Torment. For a long time I could not remember what it was called until i stumbled across it on Steam. I was over-joyed so i bought it. noting that it was old but it seems to meet the compatibility reqs. Not true. I have a Win7 x64 using a Radeon 5770 and this game will not run even with drivers rolled back to 12.10. Buyer beware that this game may not run for you even if reqs are met.

Well i remember playing this game non stop as a kid... BUt when it came out on steam i found that there where nore than a few bug that where not in the orignal game. Like the combat, there are many occasions where my opponet and i will just sit there and stare at each other (with the exception of spiders, but then agein they where always a nuicence). Also they nerfed the mace which was an AWSOME early game wepoin. the also took out afew items, like at jakes farm, just when you enter the farm the is a plot of farm land that once held about 24 herbs in the origanal version of soulbringer. that being said i havnt played through the whole game yet due to the combat bug. Heres to hopeing they will fix it (and also PLZ beef up scorn if i remember correctly in the original version scorn (the final boss) was pretty wimpy when you got to him!)

all that being said it is still an AWSOME retro game and i would recomend it to anyone!

After 15 years I'm returning to Ratenna.

I'm descending from a ship. Unnamed stranger, who will change the world and save it from oncoming evil. League of Six together again, and only I can stop them.

"Soulbringer" is a game of a dawn of CRPG, when there were no established formulas and forms. From the age of experiments. Therefore, it is unusual everything: combat system, design and, of course, plot and style. You won't find anything similar in any games in those years, nor modern.

Now we can say about "Soulbringer" that it is a poor graphics, strange and difficult combat system and frequent crashes. But 15 years ago this game was magical. I remember my wandering through the snowy fields near Madrigal and Shadowguard. And as I touched the magical stone in first time.

Now you don't understand the whole awesomeness of this game, but if you played it in 2000th - you're lucky one.

This was the game that made me fall in love with RPGs. I played it endlessly back in middle school, and replay it every few years for nostalgia's sake. The story is compelling and every NPC having its own voice actor really bring the game to life. The music is great and always appropriate for whatever situation you find yourself in.
It has this creepy, gothic feel to it that sufficiently terrified me when I first played it.
The graphics are exactly what you'd expect from a 2000 game, but I do like that you can rotate the camera freely. Picking up items can be a pain, but the main complaint I have is how it's clearly unfinished - something that becomes clearer and clearer as you delve further into the game.
In my opinion, had this game been completed, it would have rivaled Baldur's Gate or Torment (which it was packaged with).

Just a heads up, Game dose run on Windows 8.1 Pro X64 with Nvidia 760 gtx with out compatabilty.

heres the main thing about this game.. It uses ether software rendering, DX6 or DX7.
Vista and Newer DOSE NOT HAVE DX 8.x or lower support. It only supports DX9.c and newer.
DX9.c DOSE NOT Fully suport DX 8.x or older, All that legecy code was dropped back in 2006. Win9.x and XP were the only system that could run DX 9.c and all the way down to DX2.0 (vista to WIn10 can only run DX 9.c and newer)

having said that, the rest is up to the manifactor on drivers. Depending on your card and drivers, depends on how you might be able to run this game on Vista and newer , with or with out compatabilty options.

The only way I can get the game to run is via DX6 @ 1080p, Software rendering and DX7 dose not work. for me... so you may be to play with the setup untill you find something that works. ALSO DO NOT TEST DISPLAY it will lock up.. Just run it with out testing...

having said that the steam version is ever thing you would expect from the orginal releases. Nothing added, nothing missing.

Completed the game atleast 5 or 6 times since i got it back in 2002.
If you can look passed the Pre-HD era of graphics, its a really great game. I have had so much fun playing this.

When i bought this on Steam it would NOT launch. For me the fix was go to the launch exe ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Soulbringer\Soulbringer.exe, Go Properties/Compatibility and Run it in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME. Tick "Disable display Scaling on high DPI settings" and of course "Run as Administrator".- Not all of these may be required, though once i did that, the game brings up the config menu prior to launch - where you can set your resolution etc.

Im running AMD FX-8350 / ATI 7900 GFX - Windows 7 64bit.

***May not work for everyone.

I picked this up for nostalgic reasons. Make sure that you have the software enabled as graphics on newer machines. The magic system is interesting, where balance can be essential. I wasn't able to finish 12+ years ago since the software would lock-up. This time around I will be a little more cautious near the end. If you can pick this title up on sale for $2.50, I would recommend. I think that Dubbya would agree.....TWO HORNS.
