I am sitting on the fence, should I recommend this game or not? It has great sound and atmosphere, marred by game breaking bugs and strange collision detection. The main goal of the game is to rescue your family members in the castle. It is timed, if you dally around too long they will be killed off one by one. The more people die, the harder the final boss will become.
The nice part of the game is that it is very rouge-lite. The castle randomly generates with each play though, however the blocks of rooms it randomly stitches together are repetitive to say the least. The save system harkens back to when you could save the game whenever you pleased, even in boss fights. There is a BFG type weapon called the Chalice that can defeat the majority of the bosses in 1-2 shots.. even the final boss if you saved enough people.
The atmosphere of the game is fantastic, with a dark Gothic style and creepy music. However the game will rarely scare you if at all.
The main problem of the game is the annoying glitches that litter the game. I encounter a game stopping bug that forced me to load an old save (Thank goodness I'm a saveaholic). Running in this game is a nightmare, you will get stuck in walls, you will be randomly thrown into the air like superman simply because you rubbed beside a prop. Worst of all, this most commonly hurts you for no reason whatsoever. The family members you rescue are incredibility dumb, you have to babysit them every step of the way to the safe zone.
These annoying glitches ruin an otherwise absorbing experience.
