Masterspace v4.0

Dear Masterspace Community:

We are happy to finally announce the release of Masterspace, which signifies the transition from early access to final release after a development time of more than three years. All features from the original design plan (and much more) have been implemented and this final update contains a lot of bug fixes, as well as implementing some of the most commonly requested features by the community.

The main new feature is the introduction of truly infinite worlds to Masterspace by allowing travel between different sectors, each containing a star system full of planets. This is enabled in-game by the construction of the very expensive Masterspace Conduit. Furthermore, sensors are now functional within the game and may be used to scan planets from orbit, in order to detect e.g. prospective resources.

This update also introduces different gravity levels on planets, which may be modified by the construction of gravity (or anti-gravity) generators. Furthermore, the world generation scripts have been optimized and the distribution of resources on planets has been completely rebalanced.

We apologize for the delay and lack of updates lately and thank you all for your patience. We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the community and all who have all supported the development during these years. Special thanks are also extended to Roland La Goy for generously composing a fitting soundtrack for Masterspace.

Live long and prosper,
Kristofer Jansson
Master Technologies

Masterspace is a game about mining, creating and exploring, featuring fully destructible environments and spaceships that allow you to travel between different planets. Use explosives to mine metal ores or watch your newly constructed home get smashed to pieces by a meteorite impact. As you venture into space to discover new planets, the hull integrity of your custom built spaceship will be tested.

You start out by mining stone and chopping down trees to produce primitive building materials. As the game progresses you will be able to craft more advanced materials and ultimately construct a spaceship. Materials are also used to fabricate a wide range of different objects, ranging from simple furnaces and sawmills, to advanced technological achievements such as laser turrets and deep space sensors.

Features:

 • Fully Destructible planets and Spaceships
Fully destructible environments where planets, buildings and spaceships are completely customizable.
• Explore a Universe Full of Different Planets
Discover new planets with strange lifeforms or planets covered with ice or lava. Spaceships may seamlessly land on all planets without any loading screens.
• Mine Resources, Construct Buildings and Produce Goods
A vast amount of different materials may be used to construct buildings and spaceships or to craft objects.
• Innovative Construction System
A revolutionary hybrid voxel engine allows block-based buildings to be placed on top of smooth, yet fully destructible, terrain.
• Dynamic Liquids
A completely dynamic liquid system allows water to flow freely on the planets. Pumps and pipelines may be constructed to manipulate the water flow.
• Spherical Planets
Playing on spherical planets introduces new challenges and innovative gameplay possibilities.
• Multiplayer Support
Challenge your friends to a space race or invite them to visit your planet. Cooperate to mine resources, complete scenarios or construct the next world wonder.

This is the start to a really interesting game. Now that it's "released", it will probably never become a really interesting game.

First, it's glitchy. Getting stuck on the landscape still happens. If you step in a tiny hole, you might die, because the engine can't decide where you are, and beat you to death. You can't just walk up and down the stairs in the prefab towers, because you are too tall, and the engine stops your motion if you get close to a block or vertical terrain. This makes movement feel really difficult and pulls me out of the immersion. It crashes too frequently, though not so much that it can't be played. Rain still occurs indoors, and under terrain.

Why build a house or anything if it's just going to rain inside anyway? Seriously breaks the immersion for me.

Second, why am I doing any of this? There's no direction in this game. Not even a survival motive like that really popular game with blocks. The machines and technical progression are neat, but I just don't feel like there's a good reason to do anything. There is a rare material that's only on the asteroids, but it was kind of a let down when I got some. So, less reason to explore.

Third, it's not even close to finished in any way. I haven't played much since 4.0 came out, but there doesn't appear to be a working door. So even if keeping wildlife out was a reason to build a structure, there isn't a way to do access control. A short wall will stop any wildlife I encountered, except birds, but they are pretty harmless. So why build more? Just a pile of blocks will build the "culture" score, and then what? Storage and containers seem like they are always disorganized, with no way to line them up. The textures make it really hard to see if you are looking at a flat wall of rock, or if there are holes and projections and the like. If you build on a spherical planet, it's hard to get anything level on the terrain, because the curvature is pretty extreme. I realize that's hard to get away from, but the machines in my cave-house were alway all ♥♥♥♥-eyed, because the floor can't be made level without bricking it all up. It takes too long to build anything, too. I'm bored of building before I even have walls.

This game has tremendous potential that will now, sadly, never be realized. The way the game is right now just isn't that much fun.

Also, I hate the musical score, every single piece. It's well done, someone put a lot of effort into it. I just don't like it. At all.

Released unfinished and btoken. Was in EA and then suddenly put to final status. The developer seems to have cut and run. Ashame, could have been pretty cool

What a cr..p! after installation all the land and ships are pure white. no textures. Obviously game is full of bugs. Shame. I liked the idea of 'Spore like' game with some perks but with blow in my face just after installation I just can't be even bothered to ask for my 10 quid back. Use it well and learn how to program better.

OK... If anyone reads a few of the other revews it says the game sucks, in wich i would agree. But i dont like it for a different reason. The reaon being, i 100% CANT run the game because the graphics card on my computer Just happens to not support some of the textures...or a lot... i dont know the details. Ive seen a few responses to some other reveiws saying that as well, so if u dont believe me, i have proof. And thats about it, (PS im looking for a terraria server anyone can play on, so if u have one can i play it pls) PPS i dont know how to change or install or whatever or do anyhting with my graphics card, so if you say to change it or do something else... well... i cant.

!-=WARNING=-!

THIS GAME HAS BEEN ABANDONED BY ITS DEV TEAM! DO NOT BUY!

!-=WARNING=-!

=EDIT=

OK so I have to eat my words. The game was not completely abandoned by the dev team... They decided to slap some janky features like parrots that tumble thru the sky and dogs that run sideways up hills to the game. They also added some funky sound effects and downgraded the graphics it seems. Well done sirs! It is now officially FINISHED! Yay!

Seriously, it's still not done and in this day and age no game should look like this. Are you kidding me? The dev team must have gotten bored and decided to just push out a release as-is. Don't waste your money.
