Quake Live Update v1069

We've just released an update to both the client and the server today. Servers and clients will both need to update as the changes are not compatible between versions, and older servers will be de-listed from the server list. Here's the list of changes:

- add server support for alternate death effects through workshop
- fixed inability to look around after issuing a map_restart while paused
- grappling hooks on dead and disconnected players weren't freed, resulting in the hook snapping from player to player
- clientmute now properly mutes team chat
- fixed some random color issues on map rotation error output
- powerups and keys were spawning before the minimum amount of time at map start
- elder: fixed doubled up fog volume
- ironworks: fixed ffa spawns

Ignore the people saying it should still be "free." Quake Live was never free. You had to pay a monthly subscription fee to have LESS features than this version currently offers for a one time price of 10 dollars.

As for the game itself, its quake! Some people may try and discourage you saying its hard to get into and that everyone is a pro but ignore them. There are plenty of new players, just find one and ask them to duel you, make some friends! As you get better, try dueling more experienced players but don't be discouared if you lose! Just learn from your mistakes :)

This game is really fun. There is something about the raw feeling that you get from one of these old twitch shooters that you do not get from the likes of call of duty/battlefield. I got this game when it was free and it was good then but now the integration of the steam multiplayer service has made the game so much better. It is now easier to play with friends when you want to.

The only problem is; everyone is so much better than me at this game.

This is worth the purchase, but I'd wait for it to go on sale as it might not be to your tastes.

Timeless game, stagnant community

Quake. What can you say about it? Easily one of the most popular online games ever, it's surprising how after any years of its launch, it still has loyal players who are willing to play this game till the end of times.

One day, Quake Live appeared on my recommendations tab. I started salivating.

"Quake? THE Quake that revolutionized online gaming back in the day now for FREE? it's too good to be true..."

Those where the words i muttered. A quick download and a few minutes with the Training Center and i sighed in relief. They didn't f*ucked up Quake (besides a Premium service that didn't made much sense).

Best of all? It gave an opportunity to new players like me to enjoy the game. Matchmaking was added, and also included an amazing offline practice mode with bots, wich let you customized a VS AI match to the tiniest detail. It was surpisingly very newb friendly.

Then, the F2P model dissapeared, and now it costs 9,99. Understandable, since people was very upset with the Premium service. But here is when the problems started

First, they replaced their excellent practice mode with a lackluster one. Basic AI matches, the tutorial and rocketjumping-strafejumping practice rooms. They also removed Matchmaking, and simplified too much the UI.

To put it simple: New players are ABSOLUTELY F*UCKED. The only people left are professionals, and the practice options are almost non-existant. Since the only 2 gamemodes availabe (AKA the only ones people play anymore) are Duel and Clan Arena, you can guess it's not very pleasant for newcomers to be obliterated every 5 seconds all the time with 0 improvement opportunities. "lol git gud" you say. Then, answer this: How does one "git gud" now? Because i'm pretty sure being crushed by pro players every game won't help at all.

I love Quake Live. But he doesn't seem to love me

Haters all around, and i don't really understand why..
I am really sure about it, this will be more played by the real quake fans than quake champions will be, because this game has brought us the real q3 flow.

So, I have been playing ql since the start, after a hard playtime of q3. Now i feel myself lucky, that the guys made a decision, that who played the game free, now those don't have to pay for it. The game has been updated really hard, after the web browser, the first client was a bit bad for me, but now this client update just became like the original q3, without the normal sp mode. I don't really miss this feature, because if you want to play with bots, you can still play with it, I don't think that the sp mode had so much feature in the original q3 game. Now Steam just brought us the workshop feature, and there are loads of dl content for the game. Short thoughts: Im really feeling that hype now about this game, what i felt at the pr 1.32 on those days.

They made loads of balances in the game that makes a little bit more hard, more competitive. About the loadout update: okay, that's a bad situated way, it makes a little bit bad way feeling about the game, but it isn't the worlds end. Just read news about the Champions... After that trailer that all we seen, after all that hyped, and then u read about a complete overwatch game, named: Quake Champions, now that is the world end...

I hope we will grow a bigger community, and we bring back the real old quake history.

So to be straight, I recommend everyone to play this game.
New in the world? - dont be disappointed: train against bots.
Want some real competitive's, duel's, like in the 90's? - Buy this game, Dl it, play it!

The best competitive game ever made. If you fancy yourself a hardcore, competitive gamer and you've never tried Quake then you're doing it wrong.

The gameplay is timeless and close to perfection. Nerves of steel required.

Quake Live

Pros:

  • Still the best skill-based FPS of all time.
  • Can run on any old potato PC at 60+fps
  • Game still has a substantial dedicated fan base

Cons:

  • Very steep learning curve! A long time ago now I thought I would be good at this game because before then I used to play Quake II on my uncle's PS1. Then I joined a Clan Arena server and saw people flying around the map at a million miles per hour bouncing off walls. Until about 100 hours in I was hopeless, only now can I actually compete with the majority of dedicated players in the AU region.
  • For every nice guy in this game there are 5 guys who hate on newcomers to the game and give no support besides telling you to go drown yourself.
If you are looking for a competitive and really fun FPS then look no further than this. Once you put in a few hours and get good you will have loads of fun.

9/10

In less than an hour i noticed that

-90% of the servers are empty
-community is 50% dead
-80% of the people in-game are professionals
-its very hard for a total beginer to catch up

About the servers are empty thing i dont know if im 100% correct but i felt like this game is literally too hard for absolute beginers to catch up because mostly of the players are profesionals with 2k hours, and i suck at this game i got killed by the training bot crash a few times and get tottaly dominated by Swedish players online.I just need somebody to reply to me if im correct about this whole empty servers thing because i just dont see much servers running.
