Weekly Update #12

We're releasing this update on time! With last week's update just days ago, this update is a little brief but the impact is in truth quite substantial. Lets get down to it!

In the last update we introduced grapplers but we had many more plans for them. By working tirelessly we've made all your grappler dreams possible. First of all grapplers can now be equipped to the new "Gadget" slot and be quickly used with "G" (Equipment is now on U). We figured 1 grappler type isn't enough so now there are 20 different grapplers. You're probably now thinking, "Wait? How can there be 20 different types of grapplers? How do they even differ?" Well, instead of telling you why don't I show you.

Right now we know there are two main issues with grapplers:

  • They do not work in multiplayer
  • It is hard to tell when a grappler is on cooldown

Another major change we added in this week is the ability to collect Way Crystals and create new ones. However, there is a cost to moving them so you can't freely move them about. Way Crystals are not Nomads.

Weekly Update #11

We’re a bit late with this one but we have a really great update to make up for it. We’ve completely revamped the skill tooltips. Before they had vague descriptions of how the skill worked and gave absolutely no clue to what would be gained by leveling the skill. We know that the Talents is one of the most enjoyed features of Crea and we wanted players to be excited about getting to the next level for a skill. Now each skill tooltip has a much better description and along with that it’ll tell you exactly how the skill has changed through leveling and what will be gained by the next level. Here’s what they look like now!



Going hand-in-hand with the skill tooltip changes, we condensed the bonuses from leveling skills so that they feel much more impactful. Additionally, we added in a few more bonuses such as adding in AoE to nearly all of the support skills at higher levels.

We’ve introduced a new item type to the game; Grappler. Most of you will be familiar with this but pleasantly surprised by an addition we added to its functionality.



This is just the beginning for the Grappler though. We have ideas to make many more types of grapplers; some that specialize in combat while others in mobility. We are also planning to make it a full-fledged equippable item that will go into a special usable tool slot. This new equipment slot will have a button assigned to it making using your grappler of choice easy!

This next week we are continuing efforts on several fronts. Such as I will be shifting my focus back to resolving issues while Bryant is continuing his efforts on the dungeon system.

Weekly Update #11 Changelog

Features
  • Massively improved all skill tooltips to include exactly how it has improved and will with the next level
  • Initial version of Grappler - grapple walls or monsters!
  • Paragon sighting: Stegara
  • Player now gains 2 infusion points by leveling and can gain a third point per level by using a Remna Core
  • Enhanced main menu to include a message when there's a new update along with links to Twitter and Twich

Changes
  • Rebalanced Stamina usage to work on a lower scale (existing characters will now have an unusually large amount of Stamina)
  • Balanced the TP cost and unlock levels for all skills
  • Greatly optimized lighting once more
  • Huge optimizes made to combat and a few other systems improving frame rate up to 30%
  • Prevent water holes from being placed in the starting area
  • Reworked flare to use a travel time and travel in a straight line but explode if it hits the targeted position
  • Ensnare skill now completely stops monsters in their tracks
  • Heal, Protect, Shell, Haste, Stoneskin, Veil, Invisible, and Regenerate now are all AoE at higher levels
  • Skill tooltip now refreshes after the skill has been leveled

Bug Fixes
  • Resolved issue where weapons and shields did not consume stamina on use
  • Resolved issue with Regenerate regenerating a very small amount of life
  • Resolved issue with Gildor allowing himself to be pushed around (literally)

Small Patch Released!
  • Fixed Collect skill which was not working
  • Fixed a small yet crucial issue that was causing the Linux version to not work
  • Fixed settings and mods button on the main menu
  • Changed how the Grappler is rendered to make it look more attached to your character
  • Made it so that the links to Twitter and Twitch open up on the system and not in steam overlay

About This Game

Furthering the emerging sandbox genre, Crea features combat and crafting in randomly generated, fantasy-style worlds for you to explore, tear apart and build back up. Crea differentiates itself in many ways such as RPG-style character progression, several unique systems, extensive mod support and a charming art style.

The game is fun, but I don't like "crafting" NPCs and there are still quite a few bugs to be found. The control scheme also leaves a bit to be desired as well, as I find I'm constantly activating the wrong thing due to how the hot bar works. Basically it is a lower budget Terreria with a few new ideas - not bad, but not really great either...

Hopefully they tweak things as necessary and try to distinguish themselves a bit more, but until then I can't fully recommend this title.

This game is not like Terraria
Let's just get this out of the way right now, this game looks like Terraria, and many people mistake it for Terraria, it's even constantly being compared to Terreria, but it is not Terraria, and that's a good thing.

Let's start off by talking about the origins of the game. The dev has stated that the game started with the idea of "A easy to mod Terraria clone." But it changed. In it's current form, just about all it shares with Terraria is it's aesthetic, and that it's a 2d sandbox. Crea, first and foremost, has dramatically different combat. The combat in crea is very dynamic, a lot of dodging and blocking, and with a lot of skills for you to use. There are even combos, and there are several different paths you could go in terms of combat.

Next is the crafting. Crea takes a new approach to crafting compared to other sandboxes, in that you discover he recipes by researching the pieces of the items themselves. The end result of this is that finding a new recipe is more like a scavenger hunt than anything else, as you look for the piece that completes your recipe.

Next is exploration. Exploring in Crea is something that it often feels like there is a good reason to do, in fact, it almost always feels as such. While it doesn't feel like exploration is the core of the game (as, indeed, it isn't), exploration is rewarded, and required. The materials you need are not centered in a small place, they're all over the world, and should you decided to spend most of your time underground, the tunnels always feel more like you're spelunking, than anything else.

The last big piece is modding. This game has possibly the best mod support I've ever seen, so in the future, there will likely be a wide range of different ways you can play the game, all through modding.

So through all of these things, it's really a very different experience than Terraria. While it's not quite TF2 vs COD, it's close in how they're dramatically different, though of the same genre.

Now lastly, it is worth pointing something out. This is early access, there are bugs, there are character wipes, and if you don't want those, wait until the game comes out. However, the primary developer of this game is one of the most active in the community from all developers I've seen. Someone makes a suggestion, he might have it implemented within a day. Someone asks a question, there will usually be a quick answer from him. What this ends up meaning is that the people in early access have a very big impact on the game. When something is implemented which no one likes, the developer changes or reverts it, and listens to the community for suggestions on replacements. What this all ends up meaning is, if you want a stable game wait until it's released. If you want to have an impact on the game, and don't mind dealing with non-game breaking bugs, then get this, it's an excellent game.

One last thing, when looking at the reviews, look at the date, the developer holds the policy that, while in early access, the game should be different enough every two or three months to warrant another playthrough. And almost always the older reviews which had problems with the game have had the problems fixed.

Anyway, long story short, I'd recommend this game.

For me this game is just boring. For me they advertised the game really well. I thought it would be like terraria but with skill points and would have an rpg twist. However gameplay wise terraria is a lot more fun. 4/10 Overshadowed by terraria.

No, go buy Terraria, if you already have terraria, even more reason not to get this. This game feels slow, it actually is slow, most of the mechanics feel inefficient and doing basic tasks is a pain.
