Got a lot of news to share today, so let’s dive right in. The first thing we want to make you guys aware of, is that we need to hold the patch back at least a week, bringing our new goal to the 27th. We knew it was going to be an extremely tight schedule when we planned it out and even with working 80+ hour weeks the last few weeks has not been enough. Once we feel confident that we’ve caught the larger issues, and it’s as smooth as we can make it by internal testing, we’ll bring it out to Omega and have the community help us track down more bugs. If all goes to plan, we should hopefully see the Omega test within the next few days, but that is subject to how many issues we encounter between now and then.
One of our focuses right now is the early game experience, improving it in a number of ways. Monsters will now have set levels, allowing you to venture further out for more challenging fights, while keeping things easier around your spawn area.
Jasson has also reduced the amount of recipes you start with before you find the researcher, and the researcher is now found in a run down house nearby. Additionally, spawn is now set in a plains biome, with a cave entrance nearby. Combat is continuing to be refined and polished after taking in all the great feedback from the community. As a whole, these and other changes will help make a smoother experience early on, and give you a chance to learn the basics before being thrown in head first. We still have a long ways to go but progress is progress!
For those in the mood for some spooky fun, the community is putting together a Halloween mod collaboration! It’s looking like a lot of fun so far, so if you’re interested, be sure to hop over to the forums and find out how you can be part of the project. You can find the thread here:
Things are moving right along, so be sure to keep an eye on the forums and social sites for more news! Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next time for the Crea Chronicle!
Wow have this last few weeks been busy! We got 0.9.0 tested, got so much great feedback, and were able to get that pushed to the main branch. Once that was done, we dove right back in on the other half of the update, and there is so much more coming! We have a tentative target date of October 21st for the next update, but of course that is subject to change if we run into any major setbacks or delays. Workshop testing will soon be underway, and we have a testing group setup. If you’re interested in helping test, you can post here to be part of the Workshop beta:
One of the things the community has been very vocal about, is the enemies leveling along with the player. We’ve heard the reasons, and changes are coming on that front. Jasson has taken the conflict system and assigned minimum and maximum levels to areas, so that if you choose to challenge more difficult baddies, you can find an area on your map with higher level foes. This is just one among many more changes and improvements to the game that are coming with this next big update. Here’s a work in progress of a small worlds level distribution.
On the community side, we also have some exciting news, Jasson has been partnered with Twitch TV! This opportunity will allow us to really get the word out. There is potential for other things to arise from this, but we won’t spoil it all just yet. Jasson streams regularly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so be sure to give our Twitch channel a follow and get notices when he goes live! You can find the channel here:
Gonna be crazy this next couple weeks finishing things up, but we’re very excited to get this next big update out to you guys! Keep an eye on the social channels and forums for news on the Omega test for this one!
