What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We have been working on the game for more than two years and now want to invite the steam community to join the development process to help us create as fun an experience as possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The full release date will ultimately depend on player feedback and interest. Ideally we would aim for a late 2015 release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We currently have a solid platform to expand from. We have a lot of fun ideas but we’re also reluctant to make promises we may not be able to keep. That being said, we can guarantee the following:

More polished gameplay
More game modes
More levels
More weapons
Getting rid of what bugs might show up.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We’ve been working on finishing a game that isn’t riddled with too many bugs, and we feel can work as a platform to properly showcase the game and its potential.

We currently offer deathmatch and speed-run game modes.
Players can choose between 4 levels and 7 different weapons for combat.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we believe the people participating in early access are doing us a service, and the early access will therefore be slightly cheaper than the finished game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to be active on the dedicated steam forum and hope you’ll join us, regardless of your opinion.”

About This Game

Gunjitsu

Gunjitsu is a fast-paced 2.5D Multiplayer Platform Shooter, where players fight out hectic gunfights in fully destructible levels. Apart from a range of crazy weapons the game features a unique grappling hook mechanic and different styles of jumps that allows players to navigate the levels, dodge bullets and make insane headfirst assaults.

Gunjitsu is a game of skill and reflex, and all about keeping your cool. Learn to use the hook to assault and evade, learning to curve rockets, make precise shots, to cover your opponents in hails of well aimed bullets, or to make devastating fly-by attacks. Be the fastest on the trigger, the most acrobatic with the hook. Learn to aim and time your shots like a pro, or outmanoeuvre your opponents with lightning fast hit-and-run attacks. No matter how you choose to fight, these are all parts of mastering the art of Gunjitsu.

The game is heavily inspired by old platform shooters such as Soldat and Liero, and the feel and pace of these games. We wanted Gunjitsu to be all about fun, adrenaline and skill, and as such the focus is on creating an experience that rewards skill in a setting that is both hectic and nerve-racking. Gunjitsu is bringing a gun (or rocket launcher!) to a knife fight.

Challenge your friends or test your skills against the world.

It's always nice to play a game that you thought was going to be complete crap and end up enjoying yourself. There isn't a lot to Gunjitsu, it's just a really solid sidescrolling multiplayer shooter. But it's the few extra little things sprinkled on top that build on the simple core gameplay to make it really enjoyable. Destroyable pixellated enviornments are a splendid touch that sometimes adds an unexpected dimension of fun or strategy to the match. The vertical arena layout makes kills extra satisfying, making blood and corpses tumble downward in copious amounts. While I hesitate to recommend a multiplayer game with a non-existent online playerbase, I found the bots to be surprisingly worthy foes. As amusing as Gunjitsu is, it can only benefit from additional development, so I do hope this one doesn't get abandoned.

Basically, it is not a bad game. The graphics is okay for me. Gameplay is good, fast-paced. Good AI and contains balanced weapons.

The only thing is there is no online player. And sometimes i got stuck in some terrains or surfaces. Not enough maps and levels.

This is a fun multiplayer game to play with friends and even when playing with bots, it was fun. Controlling of grappling can take quite a while to get use to move efficiently across the map fast. graphically wise it can be more detailed and the variety of weapons are great, killing opponents with rocket and grenade is most satisfying. However there is lack of controller support and local multi-player option which will makeit a great family & friends game in a living room.

I CAN SWING TO MY DEATH

I really like this one ! Its a real fun game with bots or with friends. I though it was going to blow being a EA game but to my surprise its a pretty neat game with fun action mechanics. The grappling hook is so fun to use i tend to use that more then my gun lol I say give this one a shot its well worth the price tag :)

(Not my final review!)

Seems like a very fun game.
Loved the grapple mechanism. Combined w/ the triple jump and dash makes hunting the enemies very fun.

At this state of the game, it's just a generic battle arena game.
Nothing is unique compared to the other same genre.

Gunjitsu is not a bad game but I just don't feel this will be any good even when it went out of Early Access.
And the most important thing about this type of game is the players.
There is no one playing this game.
So yeah, it will be dead in no time.

Fast-paced action with a great feel!

Gunjitsu reminds me of Soldat, but the various additions to movement just makes it even better. The feel of the movement - the grappeling hook, walljumps and the dash - is fantastic. Add to that a set of robust weapons and a couple of friends (or strangers) and it all adds up to a lot of great fun!
Its easy to learn, quick to pick up, but with a lot to master still. Matches are quick and and fast-paced, and the speed-running mode is also great fun.

Highly recommended!

Gunjitsu is a 2D arena shooter. Like Soldat, but with rockets and grappling hooks.
The player control is already solid, with plenty of mobility options.
I wasn't able to find anybody online, but the bots were fairly competent.
Weapons are a mixed bag, some feel great (shotgun), others aren't as useful or effective as you'd think (grenades and rocket launcher).
The devs are very active at the forums, so I'm pretty sure they'll improve this game a lot over time.
It's a very good start.

Got a free copy of the game from orlygift.com

Tried it for little bit.. but don't quite like it...
Still it's the best game Orlygift offered so far..

I will try this one further later.

Well.. it's free.

This game reminded me of Soldat, which was a legendary 2D online shooter. Playing Gunjitsu could have been great if there was a single running game in the world at the moment (yes I tried every continent's server).

It's not a bad game but I can't recommend it to anyone at current state, as this kind of games need an alive player base and I know the game is only EA now but I think nothing will change after EA sadly.

A Good Game

VRGR - 06/10

The game is really buggy for now... The concept is good. Gameplay and UI is fine, but a lot of development is needed.
This game is not in playable condition for now. Atleast for me... I will check this game again after a month. I will change this review accordingly.

The game plays good - agains bots that is, because even though the game is given away for free on a large scale right now, you never find a server to join.

+ good concept
+ fast paced action gameplay
+ good balanced weapons
+ good AI
+ you can destroy the environment

- no online players
- you get easily stuck on uneven surfaces
- levels all look and feel very similar
- game often lags
- you can't access the options menu during a game

Some users mention "good music" in their reviews, but unfortunately for me there were only sound effects and no ingame music. Either those guys did review a different game or the music was broken for me.

All in all, the game looks promising but still needs a lot of work and polishing - and more online players.
