About This Content

Res Publica is the third expansion for the much lauded strategy game Europa Universalis IV, that introduces new and unique ways to rule over your populace and govern your nation.

Featuring the introduction of a new government type, this latest expansion also offers new idea groups to explore as well as new gameplay elements for Republics and Dictatorship. Res Publica elevates the art of governance and exploration by allowing the player to experience new ways of receiving bonuses, whilst expanding on their trade empire.

The age of exploration is brought to life in this epic game of trade, diplomacy, warfare and exploration by Paradox Development Studio, the Masters of Strategy. Europa Universalis IV gives you the ability to control a nation and if you have what it takes, you can mold it into an empire that lasts through the ages.

Main features:
  • New government type - Republican Dictatorship: Republic tradition does not increase regularly during Dictatorship and you will be presented with opportunity to gain power by losing Republic Tradition or losing power while gaining Republic Tradition during your rule.
  • New faction system: Consisting of Aristocrats, Traders and Guilds. Spend power to increase faction influence and reap the benefits of a specific faction’s bonuses.
  • New election events for Dutch Republics: Centered around Statists and Orangists. If Statists are in power elections are held every 4 years, a new ruler will always be be chosen out of 2 random candidates. With Orangists in power there is no election until the ruler is deceased.
  • New Idea Groups: This new feature opens up a the possibility for expanded exploration.

After being a long time fan of this series, I am dissapointed in the new direction they are taking with this product. The goal now, is to simply monetize every single aspect of this game, and make it unplayable unless you buy all the DLCs... This is unnaceptable Paradox.

For example, they patched the core 'vanilla' version of EU IV, to add a 'region development level' feature to the game. However, you cannot actually raise the development level of a region, unless you buy another dlc called "Common Sense"... Really!?! Why are you forcing this feature onto the vanilla version, if you need a dlc to fully play it? Pardon the pun, but it makes no sense.

Paradox is essentially going back, and making a game you bought in the past, unplayable. It's sad how how patches meant to fix bugs, and add positive features to a game, is now purposefully breaking it so you have to pay more money to fix it.

This expansion is small, but it isn't that much money. It just makes internal government stuff more fun. I really haven't noticed it at all... (but, that's because I got the game with all the DLC from the start)

Have you downed an embarassing amount of time into this game? Do you ever wish that your mighty bastion of "democracy" could organically turn into an even stronger bastion of your own egomania? Are you bored with the bland Netherlands that gets spat out of Austria/France/Burgundy? Do you just get bloody tired of not having the royal marriage and/or inheritance mechanics as a republic?

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, this DLC is for you.

This one enables the national focus feature, which is really useful and alone makes this dlc worth it

Here is the description from EU4 wiki:
National Focus: Any nation can boost a specific monarch power by +2/month while at the same reducing base gain in other monarch powers by -1/month; National Focus can be changed every 25 years.

Extremely useful when you get really unbalanced rulers (0/4/4). Or when you need to speed up on getting some ideas (exploration for example)

Love this expansion and all the intricate gameplay that it added and to balance out republics and make them a more viable government type then just a monarchy. The republic factions make it very interesting in how you want to govern your republic as well as which of the factions you want in control at any given time.

I personally think this is better than Wealth of Nations, which is the double the price of Res Publica.

A great addition to the game if you would like to play as the Dutch republic or another republic, or better a trade republic. This DLC adds more to do with those nations with those types of governments. The Statists and Organists addition to the Netherlands is great, and the rulers for each party are usually overpowered, it is great.
