Rage Runner takes the ever addictive "one more try" genre of obstacle dodging games made popular by previous titles such as Race the Sun, Avoid, or T.E.C 3001 and gives it more direction by ditching the abstract themes in favor of a more concrete sci-fi setting. In a way, the trench-running pillar-dodging style here is extremely reminiscent of the Death Star section of the '83 Atari Star Wars arcade game, one of the best arcade games of all time.

You'll find all the usual factors of a great dodge'emup here including very simple and easy to get into gameplay and controls that are exceedingly hard to master, and meticulously designed levels that are meant to push you to the edge and keep you retrying on that one seemingly impossible bit.

What's different here are a number of advanced moves you can use to alter your ship in a number of ways such as rolling sideways to make it through tight fits or slowing down to let traps move out of your way. These add way deeper mechanics than seen in any other game like this, and need to be mastered in order to perfect levels. Merely running through the later levels will not be an easy task, as you'll have to employ every one of these maneuvers in order to make it without crashing. Even moreso if you want a comfortable spot on the leaderboards.

This is very well-made, looks and sounds great (seriously, the music is really cool) and includes all of the bells and whistles you would want for a Steam release including achievements, leaderboards, trading cards, and the very active developers are even considering Workshop support with a level editor which would add even more depth and replayability to this already fun as hell title.

At $5, this is pretty much a must for any arcade gaming fan's library.

Just got this game while watching m1cr0star streaming it. He actually gifted it to me but even if he did not I would have grabbed this gem for 5 bucks.

So far there are nine levels all of which have leaderboards. It's extremely fast paced and it just feels so cool screaming through corridors and dodging stuff.

I also want to tell you that the devs (two of them made this game) seem really cool. They had both joined the stream and answered questions from everyone. They also said they will work to add a level editor to the game so that we can all build our own levels thus increasing the games life.

Don't look at my short time played as an indicator of the game. As it stood I had to leave so I just fired it up for a quick spin. Needless to say it's addicting and I'll be playing more.

Buy this game! For 5 bucks you can't lose.

Best Flappy Bird clone I played ever in my life. 10/10

In all seriousness though, its a great game. :P Level design makes the levels very challenging and even if you complete the levels you have others to compete with for score on the Online Leaderboards. Is it an original game? No. Is it well executed? Yes. It offers a unique enough experience to stand on its own with the use of power-ups and thrusting to give it more variety and allow for great speedruns. :D

Worth a buy if you are into your competitive running games. Only thing this game needs is a Level Editor (ship editor would be nice too) and it would be just that much better. Better graphics maybe too, but they are functional and not too bad. :)

UPDATE: Level Editor has been added recently with full workshop support!

Completely unfinished game with ONLY 9 short levels. On STEAM are even better. For example:
Last Knight: Rogue Rider Edition - Beautiful Game, really. My love :) http://store.steampowered.com/app/262210
Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien - beautiful, a real challenge. http://store.steampowered.com/app/218060
T.E.C. 3001 - 60-80% http://store.steampowered.com/app/280910
One Finger Death Punch - 100% must have. Simple and crazy. http://store.steampowered.com/app/264200/ I continue:

Arcade mode - malfunctioning keyboard, mouse malfunctioning, erroneous control.
Before I got a permanent ban - they wrote - we are amateurs; for all have very much time (working veeery slow).
But this is not a playground for amateurs. If they sell the game, and you must pay for the game, you want quality, functional thing and not holiday activities for developers.

"This game only supports Xbox 360 controllers." - additionally now inserted in the description :)
"9 handcrafted levels + 4 Official Steam Workshop levels provide over 10 hours of Rage!"
1 level = +-1 minute x 5-10 repetition, the vast majority of players ended up at 6th level.
After months creators are asking whether we want more levels, endless mode, something fun, easier.
Vote! Because they do not know yet whether it will be!

Added malfunctioning, unfinished game inside the unfinished game instead of at least one thing completed. You can guess what I think about such people.

But if you want a very limited game, which may be a few years at least, acceptably completed, purchase it. But other games of this type have dozens of levels.

Or you can buy food for hungry abandoned cats... It is more meaningful, good feeling will last longer.

Rage Runner = waste of time, waste of money = quality at the level of free demos/games. But the decision is yours, maybe you will be happy. [2014-08-31]
