What the developers have to say:

“We've decided to launch Interplanetary as an Early Access game. This way we can get players more involved in its design process and develop it according to the their expectations. We'll be updating Interplanetary regularly, so make sure to weigh in with your feedback!

Interplanetary is still in alpha state, so many central features are missing altogether, and there are still a lot of bugs in the game. However, we've balanced the game in a way that it's still possible to have enjoyable skirmishes while testing the basic features. So, if you purchase Early Access to the alpha version, you'll get to take part in the development and also receive all the upcoming updates until the game is finished.

Please notice that at the time of release we've had very little chances to test the lobby server with more than ten people at a time, so things may be unstable at first.

Also notice that mobile broadband connections (3G, 4G etc.) are not currently supported for Online Multiplayer mode and some players have reported problems hosting the game on Windows 8. We are currently working on a solution to these problems.

Interplanetary Patch #7.1: Holiday Cheer for the AI

Happy holidays everyone! We're off on a short holiday break, so we thought to put out a little patch to tide you over until we get back to business. It's mostly bug fixes, but the major thing is that the AI should be acting much more human now.

So long, insane aiming skills! I already linked this, but here's that tribute to the AI and its targeting prowess: https://imgur.com/a/PH3nN

Interplanetary Version 0.7.5435_EAC_7.1 / 19.12.2014
  • Shot difficulty now affects AI accuracy, which has also been generally lowered
  • Weapon damage to cities increased
  • Player turn status markers re-implemented
  • Victory screen bug fixes
  • Event log performance issues fixed
  • Action phase simulation accuracy increased (less zigzag movements for shots and the
  • chance of appearing to go through the planets is minimized)
  • Timeout for AI calculations added, fixing AI getting lost in thought
  • Missile bug fixed
  • AI turn message spam fixed

Have a good one! Remember to play a lot of games!

Sorry to keep you waiting, but here it is finally! Single Player AI, fixed networking, new UI, music, the works! Hope it was worth the wait.

Remember, the AI is still young and inexperienced and as this update is quite sizeable, there may be some unexpected issues with it. Do contact us for anything and we'll get to fixin'.

Oh, there's also an option to now send us anonymous user statistics while playing the game. This helps us a lot at developing the game further and squishing bugs. The information includes bug reports, hardware and gameplay data, such as session length and the most popular weapons. The info is not personally identifiable.

  • Simple Single Player mode with early AI bots added.
  • Networking overhauled.
    • All previous online connectivity issues should be fixed!
    • Mobile broadband connections (and all other kinds of obscure things) now supported.
    • LAN multiplayer temporarily disabled due to new network structure.
    • Player turn status markers temporarily disabled. Will be back soon.
  • UI overhauled.
    • Menu UI graphics redone.

About This Game

WARNING: Interplanetary is currently in alpha state. Refer to the forums for help.

Interplanetary is a turn-based strategy artillery game based on a hard scifi setting. It offers players an interplanetary battlefield where they can develop their home planets and use massive artilleries to wage war.

It's an arms race of interplanetary scale, with each planet developing increasingly powerful railguns, missiles and even beam weapons. Sometimes, the greatest foe is the unpredictable planetary system with its treacherous gravity wells. Mind your surroundings, use them to your advantage and blast your enemies back to the stone age!

Current Key Features

  • Challenge your friends in hotseat or online matches or fight skirmishes against the AI.
  • Build and manage your planet's infrastructure.
  • Gather resources and decide the most efficient use for them.
  • Research and develop increasingly futuristic technologies.
  • Spy on your enemies to reveal their planets' weak points.
  • Use your artillery constructions to aim through the planetary system, avoiding other celestial bodies and their gravity.
  • Fire your railguns, missiles and beam weapons to annihilate the enemy and claim the planetary system for your civilization!

Planned Features

  • LAN multiplayer
  • Deeper city mechanics, projects, and population productivity management
  • Warhead mechanics to increase missile versatility
  • Additional superweapon(s)
  • More buildings, technologies, planet maps
More features to be revealed further along the development.

This game not only has the potential for a GREAT game, but it is already very fun in its current state. However there are some problems in paradise and I'll list them below along with the positives.

PROS:
1.Amazing Gameplay
2.Many different ways to win
3.Very active dev team that interacts and listens to the community
4.Looks very nice for what it is
5.Intuitive physics in space
6.Very fun to play with friends
7.Fully explorable tech tree with many different strategies

CONS: (most of which are planned updates but in the game's current state do exist as issues)
1.The game seems practicly unable to finish a match with more than 3 players
2.Un-randomzied positions for players in a game
3.Alt-tabbing will often break your game, not only for you but for everybody else in your game, this is especially a negative for a game where you can spend minutes waiting for everybody to finish their turn
4.Strange connection issues depending on your internet type
5.Can be a struggle to get into a game since at the moment it is only multiplayer (singleplayer is supposedly coming soon)

My final thoughts on this game are that what is currently here is a blast to play. However it is far from being complete as I've had days where every single one of my matches crashes for seemingly no reason well into the game which is horrid as matches can last well over an hour in this game. If you wish to support the devs and play this game now, I would recommend you get it at a discounted price. But it pains me to say that I might not recommend this to everybody, in the games current state it is just to buggy for me to say pay full price for it. This game has a lot of promise and I am looking forward to what it evolves into with the excellent dev team it has. This game is a must have for a group of friends, but be cautious about your purchase.

UPDATE: I've played 4 games in 2 days, not a single one of them has been able to finish. This game is borderline uncompletable in his current state. I want to like this game SO bad, what is here is amazing! However the fact is that you need to wait a few updates to pick this up because it's very unstable and the few matches you're able to get into are BIG letdowns when they crash 45 MINUTES INTO THE GAME.

Do not buy this game if you want to play it alone... You will... get your self destroyed. The AI cheats, they hit you with a 99.5% accuracy and hit your cities and buildings every time.

Instead, play it with people, it is a very fun game.

Its a fun game. Though it is in dire need of an AI, or at least some form of single-player. In its current state i cannot recomend. Although it has a ppromising future.

Short version:
This is a good game. However I cant recommend for now as there is no single player the multiplayer scene is dead and even if you find a match there are connection issues.

Long version:
The concept is great, implementation is pretty for an alpha and I can definitely see it developing into a truly fun game. In the few games I did play I had loads of fun - making alliances against a common enemy only to betray them at the end. building mass drivers, missiles, lasers, asteroid diversion to completely wipe out enemy planets. I really enjoyed all that.

Now the problems. while the game is incredibly fun its actually hard to start one. there is no Singleplayer mode (although the devs are developing it), trying to play randomly online will often greet you with an empty lobby (unless you bring in your friends) and even if you do you find a game, there will be issues with connection ranging from lag, to disconnections and outright refusal to connect. the game does however play wonderfully over LAN with friends.

These issues make it nearly impossible to play the game you paid for, and are why I cant recommend this game for now. however the second these issues are fixed I wholeheartedly recommend you get this game.

As this is an early access game, this review applies to the state of the game at this time(2014-8-22)

An interesting game that is best played with friends, Interplanetary puts you in control of a planet pitched in a fierce battle against the other players (And the developpers hinted AI may be coming soon) by shooting at eachother with railguns, missiles, lasers, and superweapons. This sounds easy enough but you'll find that when you need to shoot your opponents, your railgun will be facing the other direction due to your planet's rotation. Your lasers don't hit anything but air and empty soil because your opponent has worked on counterinteligence, and your missiles were brought off course by the gravity well of a passing gas giant. He takes the shot, but misses you just barely. And the gravity well of your planet redirects those railgun shots right into the orbit of a third player.

I did not expect it, but it is surprisingly challenging in your tactical and strategic choices. Do you build everything nearby so the early game railguns will do barely any damage at all, with everything you have fitting nicely under one defence structure... or do you spread out everything so a superweapon can't hit everything at the same time and destroy half your buildings with one well placed shot? Who do you aim at first? That guy who keeps shooting railguns at you and is obviously out for blood, or the guy who is peacefully building his war machine with mines and data security centers? The list goes on, but it has more than enough variety to allow for plenty of experimenting while it avoids having a single strategy that will always come out as the best.

It is certainly worth giving a try, with plenty of decisions and choices to keep you thinking, but fast paced enough to get through a game without spending your whole day on it. (Average, casual games I played with friends lasted about 1-2 hours)

For 10 euro, I would say it's worth it and recommend giving it a go. If you're not convinced, keep an eye on this one for when it goes on sale

Played with friends. Everybody shot at once. There was 60 railgun shots. 2 Asteroid Redirections. 1 Solar laser. After everything hit I pulled up the damage report. Game crashed. 11/10

EDIT(A more serious review): For a more accurate representation of what to expect, search up Interplanetary gameplay videos to get a feel of what it is like. Overall it is worth the money if you have people to play with, and if you like to see explosions go for it. Keep in mind that as of current, Interplanetary is still in its alpha phase.

For those who are not too patient be warned, this game is turn based and people can drag the round/turn out.

As always, it is your opinion on whether or not you like the game. So do a bit of self research before you buy this game.

Really neat. The mechanics and features are still simple and limited, but it's alpha. Among all of today's boring games "for the masses", Interplanetery reminds me of my youth, when games were supposed to challenge the player's wits.

TL;DNR: The game is very, VERY well done, espicially at it's age. However, the slow pace and "early acess-ness" of this game may turn some off.

Pros:
- Something about it makes it reeeeally hard to turn off the game, even when you realize you've been playing for a million years straight.

- The general in-depth "ness" of the game. It aint your average artillery game.

- The developers won't try to screw you over *cough* EA *cough*

Cons:
- Finding a group to play with on multiplayer is kinda hard. (Most games seem to pop up at 3:00 PM PST)

- WiFi issues. While they aren't as bad as when the game came out (or so I heard), if you have a big game (try to limit your game size to 3), there WILL be issues.

- The slow pace may turn some off.

I'm a bit on the fence about the save feature; your planet has a limited amount of resources, meaning all games will eventually and enivitably end; a save feature would be nice, as these games can litrerally last forever.

But don't let any of the cons turn you down, the devs are hard at work making a singleplayer mode, stable WiFi connections for bigger games, and a save feature. And if the devs keep this up, the first con - the community being small - will go away, the community will get bigger.

And I can certainly recommend this to anyone, given they don't hate slow games. (Not FPS wise, as in gameplay wise)

Got to play a bit yesterday, connection problems today. So this is how it went down: Me and a guy were friendly until turn 20(2 player game) and then we started to bomb eachother. It was going to be peace and harmony... until I found out you have limited material in your planet. :) 8/10, tons of potential for an early version, potentially amazing.(Camera controls a bit... clunky doe)

Interplanetary is a fun game. There is no debate about that. And with that fun there is a lot of strategy, and even skill involved to win at a game. And with such, there is a degree of deciet and even back stabbing. Nobody knows who has what, who's on a team with who, and who is really capable of destroying who. If you're interested in the game. Make sure you purchase multiple copies, kuz playing with friends is really what makes this game for me. A few things about it that aren't so great is that the game feels extreamly limited. I would enjoy a more diverse tech tree. But that really is my only complaint, the game runs perfectly and the game is really just a load of fun to play.

This game has a near infinite amount of replayability, and a near infinite amount of play styles. Sometimes people will bombard your planet with railgun shots on the second turn, and sometimes no shots will be fired until somebody calls in an asteroid. The tech tree fits the length of the game perfectly, as well as it is almost 100% balanced. The new upgrade feature really adds another dimension to the optimal play-style, as it allows for more energy and materials to be produced in a smaller area. The array of weapons that you can arm your planet with is grand, be it with pinpoint accuracy lasers or homing missiles. One of the best, but most complicated parts of the combat system is the gravity of the planets and the sun. You could aim a shot so that it looks like it will be spot on, but then the planets will orbit and gravity will throw the shot out of the system. All in all, this game was definately a 10/10, I hope to see many new features in the future.

this is a brilliantly fun game, one of the few strategy games i genuinely enjoy. The developers of this game are also involved with the community very thoroughly, from playing games with them to even hosting servers to test upcoming content with the community and posting free steam keys to their twitter page everytime they're beaten.
this game has limitless potential, and it is currently, nearly, flawless. it could use a few additions, such as a training mode or singleplayer, possibly the ability to colonize moons or nearby planets that aren't in play.

this game has limitles potential, and i am looking forward to what the devs give us next.
