What the developers have to say:

“We've decided to launch Interplanetary as an Early Access game. This way we can get players more involved in its design process and develop it according to the their expectations. We'll be updating Interplanetary regularly, so make sure to weigh in with your feedback!

Interplanetary is still in alpha state, so many central features are missing altogether, and there are still a lot of bugs in the game. However, we've balanced the game in a way that it's still possible to have enjoyable skirmishes while testing the basic features. So, if you purchase Early Access to the alpha version, you'll get to take part in the development and also receive all the upcoming updates until the game is finished.

Please notice that at the time of release we've had very little chances to test the lobby server with more than ten people at a time, so things may be unstable at first.

Also notice that mobile broadband connections (3G, 4G etc.) are not currently supported for Online Multiplayer mode and some players have reported problems hosting the game on Windows 8. We are currently working on a solution to these problems.

Interplanetary Patch #7.1: Holiday Cheer for the AI

Happy holidays everyone! We're off on a short holiday break, so we thought to put out a little patch to tide you over until we get back to business. It's mostly bug fixes, but the major thing is that the AI should be acting much more human now.

So long, insane aiming skills! I already linked this, but here's that tribute to the AI and its targeting prowess: https://imgur.com/a/PH3nN

  • Weapon damage to cities increased

  • chance of appearing to go through the planets is minimized)

About This Game

WARNING: Interplanetary is currently in alpha state. Refer to the forums for help.

Interplanetary is a turn-based strategy artillery game based on a hard scifi setting. It offers players an interplanetary battlefield where they can develop their home planets and use massive artilleries to wage war.

It's an arms race of interplanetary scale, with each planet developing increasingly powerful railguns, missiles and even beam weapons. Sometimes, the greatest foe is the unpredictable planetary system with its treacherous gravity wells. Mind your surroundings, use them to your advantage and blast your enemies back to the stone age!

Current Key Features

  • Challenge your friends in hotseat or online matches or fight skirmishes against the AI.
  • Build and manage your planet's infrastructure.
  • Gather resources and decide the most efficient use for them.
  • Research and develop increasingly futuristic technologies.
  • Spy on your enemies to reveal their planets' weak points.
  • Use your artillery constructions to aim through the planetary system, avoiding other celestial bodies and their gravity.
  • Fire your railguns, missiles and beam weapons to annihilate the enemy and claim the planetary system for your civilization!

Planned Features

  • LAN multiplayer
  • Deeper city mechanics, projects, and population productivity management
  • Warhead mechanics to increase missile versatility
  • Additional superweapon(s)
  • More buildings, technologies, planet maps
More features to be revealed further along the development.

Early Access Review
Pretty solid foundation for an Early Access game. Hoping to see more great things added to it. If you've ever played any of the Worms games, or any tank battle turn based game, this game takes it to a new level. Build your interplanetary defenses and weapons and unlease a volley of attacks on other planets. Sounds easy, until you realize the red targeting line isn't going to take into account planetary movement and the influence of the gravitational pull of the other planets moving in the solar system. Takes a bit of though, but of gut calculation, and a bit of luck at times to really hit your enemies home with your weapons.

Pros:
- Awesome concept executed well
- Resource management is simple, yet forces decision making. Do I want more new weapons or defenses next turn, or do I want to attempt to do more damage now?

Hopes:
- I hope you'll be able to designate names for your missiles, because if you have half a dozen, but did specific upgrades to some and not others, it's hard to figure out which missile has the upgrades. And I didn't see a specific name for the individual missiles like I did in targeting mode.
- Maybe have a variety of orbit types?
- Take over other planets or moons?
- More weapons

This game is still in development and is already great. The new AI added in .7.5 makes it more interesting, but may lead to your early demise if you are not careful or are learning the game. The tech tree may be a bit small. that remains to be seen via future plays. Worth buying now, even unfinished.

Kerbal Space Program + Starcraft II + Universe Sandbox = Interplanetary

  1. Find this game on steam.
  2. Intensify your HYPE for the game by finding it before your paycheck arrives.
  3. Spam the "add to cart"-button and purchase this game as quickly as possible.

I am a huge fan of space and physics. If you are too, buy this game. It combines the extreme beauty of space (I mean look at that title screen!) with physics. They are not as accurate as they could be, but as this is an early access review, I will not think of planets orbiting in different directions as a reason not to buy this.

Interplanetary has great potential, if it gets more advanced features in the future. For example a larger playerbase and more buildings, weapons and systems.
As I was a diamond-ranked Starcraft II player in the past, I find turnbased RTS' to be way more relaxing.
This feels like a game again, not like a job.

10/10 would buy again!

Played this for the first time last night, bought it for myself and my brother as it looked interesting.

2 Hours later in our first match he conceded deafet. I don't know if it was because it was the first time we were playing or if the game is actually this slow, but we both enjoyed the game the whole time we were trying to kill each other.

I bought Interplanetary on an impulse, because it was on sale and i wanted to play a new game with my friends.
I didn't expect much from it, but it turns out to be a really good game!

Even though it's an early release, the game is well balanced and looks and feels like a full release.
Have yet to encounter any serious issues (had a little lag in a single player game, but that is to be expected with those amounts of calculations).

Singleplayer is okay, the AI are a decent challenge. But where the game really excells, is in the multiplayer.
Play with at least three people and watch the chaos unfold. Pacts are made, truces broken and backs are stabbed.

The only recommendations i would make to the developers:
- Add more research; the skill tree is largely resource boosters. Perhaps some more unlockable buildings or weapons?
- Different difficulties for AI
- The ability to set teams before launching a game
- More variety in buildings would be nice too, and perhaps the option to upgrade/specialize a city

The points mentioned are not essential to have in this game! All of them would, however, make the game better (in my opinion).

Conclusion:

8/10, this game has a lot of potential!

As this is an early access game, this review applies to the state of the game at this time(2014-8-22)

An interesting game that is best played with friends, Interplanetary puts you in control of a planet pitched in a fierce battle against the other players (And the developpers hinted AI may be coming soon) by shooting at eachother with railguns, missiles, lasers, and superweapons. This sounds easy enough but you'll find that when you need to shoot your opponents, your railgun will be facing the other direction due to your planet's rotation. Your lasers don't hit anything but air and empty soil because your opponent has worked on counterinteligence, and your missiles were brought off course by the gravity well of a passing gas giant. He takes the shot, but misses you just barely. And the gravity well of your planet redirects those railgun shots right into the orbit of a third player.

I did not expect it, but it is surprisingly challenging in your tactical and strategic choices. Do you build everything nearby so the early game railguns will do barely any damage at all, with everything you have fitting nicely under one defence structure... or do you spread out everything so a superweapon can't hit everything at the same time and destroy half your buildings with one well placed shot? Who do you aim at first? That guy who keeps shooting railguns at you and is obviously out for blood, or the guy who is peacefully building his war machine with mines and data security centers? The list goes on, but it has more than enough variety to allow for plenty of experimenting while it avoids having a single strategy that will always come out as the best.

It is certainly worth giving a try, with plenty of decisions and choices to keep you thinking, but fast paced enough to get through a game without spending your whole day on it. (Average, casual games I played with friends lasted about 1-2 hours)

For 10 euro, I would say it's worth it and recommend giving it a go. If you're not convinced, keep an eye on this one for when it goes on sale

Do not buy this game if you want to play it alone... You will... get your self destroyed. The AI cheats, they hit you with a 99.5% accuracy and hit your cities and buildings every time.

Instead, play it with people, it is a very fun game.

I'm going to make this review short as I want to go keep playing it.
This game is amazing! My friend bought him, 2 others and me a copy and we've been playing it for hours, and we will keep playing it for hours, it's kicked of feuds and arguments and betrayals and I've never lost 3 friends quicker in my life! It's like Monopoly 2.0
It's great fun and I hope more people buy it so I can play with some more people :D
This game is easy to learn and hard to master, so far we have come up with lot's of different strategies with varying levels of success. I can only hope for a more complex research tree and maybe some more building, me and my friend have discussed some ideas too, like irregular orbits or EMP missiles. anyway. If you have friends to play this with. buy it! its so much fun.

Really neat. The mechanics and features are still simple and limited, but it's alpha. Among all of today's boring games "for the masses", Interplanetery reminds me of my youth, when games were supposed to challenge the player's wits.

Got to play a bit yesterday, connection problems today. So this is how it went down: Me and a guy were friendly until turn 20(2 player game) and then we started to bomb eachother. It was going to be peace and harmony... until I found out you have limited material in your planet. :) 8/10, tons of potential for an early version, potentially amazing.(Camera controls a bit... clunky doe)

This is a cool game. Pretty basic but it does what it sets out to do pretty elegantly. The details of the planet interface could be more clear, but it's pretty stable and elegant. Hopefully there will be more features coming.

Interplanetary is my favorite game on Steam at the moment. It has an easy to learn interface, but every game is fresh and different. A word of warning though, this is a strictly a multi-player game, and if you don't have anyone to play it with, it's not worth getting. Best served with Skype and lots of friends. The devs are real nice too.

This game has everything to be successful... however it still lacks singleplay, and that is terrible. There is no urgent need for a story mode, a campaign, nothing like that, but the absence of an AI to play against limits the game enjoyability, as you are forced to find people to play against, which is not everybody's cup of tea.

This is not the case as with unfinished, half-developed games, a sad constant nowadays. In fact, the game is very well though of and it plays well - and what is best, it is a refreshing novelty in strategy games, with its unique concept. The problem is not being able to play it!!! (unless someone is willing to do it with you). If the developers manage to include an AI to allow singleplay mode, this game will really shine.

EARLY ACCESS - Means not finished so don't expect much content.

This game is actually quite fun. Once the game content expands more (tech tree, weapons, battle fields/solar systems) then it will be a classic I believe along the same lines as DEFCON.

Simple, refreshing and bloody good fun.

Makes you glad there is not another Earth with intelligent life on it in our solar system.
