What the developers have to say:

“We've decided to launch Interplanetary as an Early Access game. This way we can get players more involved in its design process and develop it according to the their expectations. We'll be updating Interplanetary regularly, so make sure to weigh in with your feedback!

Interplanetary is still in alpha state, so many central features are missing altogether, and there are still a lot of bugs in the game. However, we've balanced the game in a way that it's still possible to have enjoyable skirmishes while testing the basic features. So, if you purchase Early Access to the alpha version, you'll get to take part in the development and also receive all the upcoming updates until the game is finished.

Please notice that at the time of release we've had very little chances to test the lobby server with more than ten people at a time, so things may be unstable at first.

Also notice that mobile broadband connections (3G, 4G etc.) are not currently supported for Online Multiplayer mode and some players have reported problems hosting the game on Windows 8. We are currently working on a solution to these problems.

About the Game

WARNING: INTERPLANETARY IS CURRENTLY IN ALPHA STATE. SOME PLAYERS HAVE REPORTED ONLINE CONNECTIVITY PROBLEMS AND MOBILE BROADBAND CONNECTIONS ARE NOT YET SUPPORTED. REFER TO THE FORUMS FOR HELP.

Interplanetary is a turn-based strategy artillery game based on a hard scifi setting. It offers players an interplanetary battlefield where they can develop their home planets and use massive artilleries to wage war.

It's an arms race of interplanetary scale, with each planet developing increasingly powerful railguns, missiles and even beam weapons. Sometimes, the greatest foe is the unpredictable planetary system with its treacherous gravity wells. Mind your surroundings, use them to your advantage and blast your enemies back to the stone age!

Current Key Features

  • Challenge your friends in hotseat, LAN or online matches.
  • Build and manage your planet's infrastructure.
  • Gather resources and decide the most efficient use for them.
  • Research and develop increasingly futuristic technologies.
  • Spy on your enemies to reveal their planets' weak points.
  • Use your artillery constructions to aim through the planetary system, avoiding other celestial bodies and their gravity.
  • Fire your railguns, missiles and beam weapons to annihilate the enemy and claim the planetary system for your civilization!

Planned Features

  • Single Player Mode with AI opponents
  • Deeper city mechanics, projects, and population productivity management
  • Building upgrades such as mining lasers or helical railgun barrels - these will affect the building stats and/or functionality
  • Warhead mechanics to increase missile versatility
  • Additional superweapon(s)
  • More buildings, technologies, planet maps
More features to be revealed further along the development.

A review isn't ethically possible until the game officially launches, but so far I'm having a great time with it. The game shows a lot of promise and is well worth a look. It has all of the ingredients for a potentially outstanding game. My son and I especially like the hotseat option...check out video #3 below to see what I mean. :)

I played the game during the alpha, and it is quite fun. Granted, if you are looking for fast paced action this might not be the game for you. However, if you enjoy turn-based strategy games that require some thinking, planning, and a a dash of luck, then Interplanetary is well worth a look, especially for the price.

I wrote up an in-depth hands-on of Interplanetary during the alpha test in case anyone is looking for more info about the game:

I would recommend this game for anyone that likes civ, but wants constant battling. It's less intense than defcon, but still very action packed. There is that early game build up of structures, but there is always that worry that someone will strike first against you. Hitting with your railgun and missiles comes down to a brutal physics and sometime luck as you guess the right trajegtory. Honestly, I've played only a few hours and I think it's great. There is loads of potential here for the developer to add onto. Beware though it is an alpha. There are many things that need balancing and tweaking. The tutorial doesn't make everything abundantly obvious. The tech tree is short and the is no reminder to pick a tech. It's is still at heart and concept wise a good game. If its on sale definanetly grab this game, if its not on sale eeeehhh meh. It might be worth 10 bucks, but in its current state waiting until it goes on sale or into beta is the best bet.

Amazingly fun game!

I've played this with a friend and we had so much fun. After one game you quickly get a hold of what everything does and how the game works.

It's kinda like defcon with planets.

You must try this, it's awesome.
