An open letter to fans of Dancing Dragon Games...

Happy Friday everyone!

No game updates here. Just me gushing. First, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. All the players of Echoes, Skyborn, and yes even my oldies, Deadly Sins 1 and 2.

I'm writing this as a bit of a look back or a post mortem on Echoes. Here's something I never thought I'd share publicly: Skyborn is significantly more popular than Echoes of Aetheria. Like... WAY more popular. And sometimes, that bothers me... I felt that I should have progressed as a developer and improved.

But as I've gotten older, I've learned to take a step back whenever I feel the pangs of regret, shame, whatever. To be able to see what's really important.

And what's important here?

I had a LOT of fun making it! And a few people had a lot of fun playing it!

That's what really matters. Did Echoes touch as many people as Skyborn? Not even close. But it still has the same value to me. If just ONE person is deeply moved, motivated, inspired, whisked away to a fantasy world of their own making, what have you. Then that's all that really matters.

That's why I made games after all. Because something else inspired me, whisked ME away to another world, and motivated me to tell my own story, and share my own vision for an epic adventure.

So again, thank you for playing. If even just a little bit. And if it inspired you in any way, I hope that has some positive effect on your life, as games have done for me. Getting lost in a project is one of the most rewarding things an indie developer can do.

Life is short - do what MOVES you. Tell your story. Leave your mark! :)

Sincerely,

Harmonic

I enjoyed this rpg game very much. The music reminded me of favorite rpg games in the past, and it just has that crisp relaxing feeling, where you sit back, relax, and experience everything with a smile step by step.

I am now collecting 'Dancing Dragon Games' games, especially the new one that recently released.

Wonderful. =)

If you like story-rich JRPGs, Skyborn is the game for you!

The characters all have real personalities, the story is compelling, and the dialogue is engaging. On top of all that, the gameplay is among the best you can find in the RPGMaker world.

I would recommend this game to any fan of RPGs!

I am now a couple of hours into this game, and I am pleasantly surprised. All too often, I play RPG Maker games that look good, but really seem amateurish. So far, it seems like of the best RPG maker games I've seen. The story seems to be setting up nicely, the game play is pretty good, and it seems to have a level of polish above many other RPG maker games. I'm looking forward to playing it through. I've also got to say that the music is great for an RPG maker game.

Awesome RPG, I've never really been a fan of these kinds of games, but when it landed in my library I thogut "Eh, Might as well." Needless to say I wan't dissapointed. Interesting Characters, Great Storyline, and great music. My only complaint is that the fullscreen mode forces you to play at 800X400, or atleast that's what it's doing to me.

I was enjoying this game very much, but then the game crashed and I lost all my progress. I'd been playing for an hour, so please make autosave a feature! :(

I did like it, but flicking through all the dialogue for an hour again is something I don't really want to do, so I'm a bit disappointed... The story was good, though. Being able to rebind keys would be another thing that this game needs - using arrow keys instead of WASD is not really convenient for many players.

Well, this game is quite lovely, though it may have been made it RPG maker, it is still pretty well done and i would recommend this to anyone who is too lazy to make thier own game for free, or who just want a well done story with loveable characters too.

If on sale worth it to buy, but I wouldn't pay full price. The game is good but not amazing - a good story though not terribly unique and the characters are written very archetypically. The game is a bit short, though once again if on sale a good length for the money.

I wasn't a fan of the level up system which left absolutely not customisation options except for the two class changes/selections.

My main gripe with the game is simply I found it too easy (played on normal) until the very last boss which I can't get past. Obviously I need more upgrades but if I was going to struggle so much on one fight I should have at least found the others difficult. I went from defeating enemies with ease to trying 10+ times and not even getting the last boss below half health.

This game has a great story behind it and a moral undertone great for kids . The grafics a good for an rpg maker game and the linear gameplay keeps you on coarse if you like that (i prefer non-linear) . If i had a copmplaint it was too short I finished the game in one day at lv 30 , it needed more side quests or an alternate ending ie. a dif path for the hero but all in all a good game well done .

Skyborn is a unique story driven R.P.G. developed by Dancing Dragon Games and published by Degica. The Skyborn are a winged humanoid race that has defeated in war and consequently subjugated humankind. You take on the role of Claret Spencer, the star mechanic of an independent repair shop, who suddenly finds herself pulled into an epic city wide conflict which takes her and her friends on a journey through a tale of magic, metal and mystery as she unravels the secrets of the Skyborn. This is a R.P.G. Maker title which up to this point I had never heard of although I have played many games in the past with this same look and style. For those that don't know, R.P.G. Maker is a program that allows users to create their very own role playing games. With that said, the gripping story in this title is really well conceived and unfolds over the course of the game in unvoiced dialogue and cutscenes many times alongside gorgeous anime inspired handrawn artwork that is truly a pleasure to the eyes. There's enough intrigue, action and humor in this wonderful game to keep you consistently playing from start to finish.

As you travel through the beautiful and heavily steampunk themed world of the game, Claret and the allies that she manages to assemble along the way will be forced to do battle against the Skyborn themselves as well as a variety of other enemies and adversaries. The combat in this title, which is very fun and quite different from the typical R.P.G.'s that I tend to play, takes place in the form of the turn based J.R.P.G. battle systems similiar to many classic well known Japanese Role Playing Games like Final Fantasy and Grandia. As you win you constantly earn experience points and automatically level up your group. You also have the ability to upgrade the gear of your character and companions by purchasing, looting or crafting various weapon and armor sets. Besides the main story, Claret will meet many interesting and sometimes hilarious N.P.C.'s who will provide you with the chance to take on any number of optional sidequests. There is also an incentive to explore the world because there are many hidden items to find which can yield extra experience points and crafting materials as well as currency.

The musical score and sound effects in this title are phenomenal and fit the gameplay perfectly. Whether you are engaged in battle, leisurely strolling about or having a conversation there are tracks to suit the occasion. The world is filled with gears grinding and smokestacks puffing as one would expect in a steampunk themed game and this title does not dissapoint. I find myself listening to the classically inspired soundtrack on a daily basis as I'm logged on to Steam and will continue to do so because it's that memorable.

Discovering this game came as a huge surprise for me as I never thought that I would have enjoyed a title such as this as much as I have. Playing this game has definitely piqued my interest in the R.P.G. Maker genre. Like I stated before, this genre is completely new to me but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this title has to be one of the most well developed and polished of them all. I constantly find myself scouring Steam every week hoping that I might one day come across another gem like this one. If you're looking for a lighthearted roleplaying game with a fantastic story, just the right amount of humor and interesting combat then look no further...Skyborn would make an excellent addition to your library and is highly recommended! As a side note, the developers have recently begun asking the Steam community what they would like in another Skyborn game so I'm crossing my fingers and hope to die that a sequel could definitely be in the works.

I don't usually play a whole lot of 2D RPG's, but Skyborn just kept me coming back for more.

Reasons include:
  • Great music
  • Beautiful art style/design
  • Wonderful characters
  • Good story, a little cliche (kinda inevitable), but I still thoroughly enjoyed it
  • Challenging, but not impossible

What is there not to like?

I just started to play this RPG Maker style game as part of my "collecting trading cards to buy cs:go skins" marathon, but I have to say, this game is awesome.. I really got into the story very fast, it really does have stunningly beautiful graphics and the story is really really good so far.. I strongly reccomend it for everybody who is a fan of pixel art rpg games

Skyborn is is a very charming game with it's turn-based battle system to its outstanding environments to experience. Following Claret through her adventure with her friends and the toughness they face with the Skyborn was to say the least, amazing.

Beautiful little game, takes around 5 hours to play through depending on your difficulty setting.

The idea of multiple races not getting along and a group of protagonists attempting to fix society is definitely cliche, but the game does a great job of progressing the storyline in a way that tries to deviate from it.

The artwork and gameplay itself reminded me of a Zelda/Pokemon-esque setting, and the environments you travel through are very well made. The game devs did a great job with the worldbuilding and you can feel yourself in the protagonists' shoes. The characters are also developed very well, and you can see their progressions as you complete the game.

I wasn't a big fan of the combat system, it was turn by turn and was a bit boring for me, but it's not a big complaint. I also did not like the fact that there was no map or quest guidance system, but for the most part I was able to find my way after a minute or two of looking around the map.

Overall, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. This game is simply fantastic

Despite the inherent limits of games made with RPGMaker, Skyborn is genuinely fun and it's clear that a lot of work went into making it.

The story is fairly clichè, but is told in a charming way that will still make you care. The characters are likeable. The gameplay adds a few small twists to the classic old-school RPG formula (for example, you can change the difficulty at any time and you can avoid random mook battles). The art is pretty and the music is adeguate.

One thing annoyed me: the game is not properly synchronized with Steam, so you can't take screenshots. In fact, the key that normally takes screenshots (F12) will reboot the game. Thankfully the game autosaves when you enter a new location!

I got this game for free a few months back and although I haven't finished it yet, I have got to say that for a game made with RPGMaker this games really shines.

Skyborn is set in a SteamPunk universe, it has an intriguing story, some very well made set of tiles and maps, a main character with a charming personality, some very clever/humorous dialogues. and a nice fitting soundtrack to top it off.

All in all, a much better game than I expected, if you see this on sale make yourself a favor and buy it, it's worth it.

Skyborn is a little J-RPG made with RPG-maker, but don't look down on it, every single of its components is well-crafter, be it the musics, the pictures, the combat system or the story. Even given it's "short" duration (10-15 hours), it's worth the full price. I'd rather spend 15 hours playing an awesome game than 30 hours an average game for the same price.

Venture into a charming steampunk world, as a strong-willed airship mechanic named Claret.

Skyborn is a very pleasant RPG. It features a unique and likable set of characters, witty dialogue, a lovely soundtrack, and a delightful albeit slightly predictable story, all bundled up in 5-10 hours of gameplay.
It is simple and has difficulty settings, so rookies to the genre can enjoy it just as much as a seasoned RPG veteran.
One of the best qualities of Skyborn is that there is no grinding required. There’s no need to run around for hours. The monster encounters are well paced, yet the story moves along without feeling rushed.

I got this in a bundle, and for the length of the game, the regular price does seems a little steep.
I’d recommend picking it up on a bit of a sale.

All in all, it’s a cute, fun, and simple RPG. Pick it up if you want something short and sweet.

Very cute and engaging RPG that reminded me a lot of Chrono Trigger, especially the sounds. I nearly played it through in one sitting it grabbed me that well. While I would have liked it to be a little longer it still is well worth a go for people looking for an enjoyable story driven RPG.

At start i thought Skyborn will be boring or another badly made RPGmaker game.. but when i started to play this, took me a while and i liked it.The story in this game was very well executed. Usually not a big fan of these kind of games but this one was a very nice one. I would rate this 9/10
Pros:
  • Addictive characters.
  • Good combat system.
  • Easy item gathering.
  • 13 card Spades deck.
  • Nice stage designs.
  • Story was so good it needs like 12 episode anime.
  • Has a collusseum, where you can get a champion title.
  • The music is good and fitting for every stage, but easy forgettable.
  • Lots of secret items to discover, with special attributes, that cant be bought or crafted.
Cons:
  • No voice for characters.
  • Lack of crafting stuff.
  • No sequel to this.
  • Not much sidequests.
  • Saehral is too damn OP!
Overall if you want to enjoy a RPGmaker game, that is well done, get this one, won't regret it.

It's a short rpg, it's got the basic turn based rpg battle. equipmentz is intresting and stories nut too bad either,
game did feel a little to easy i barely grinded but killed most enemies in 1 turn. Also it does feel like it costs a little bit too much.

WARNING!
I give it positive opinion BUT it's totally not worth to buy for 14,99€. If u can have it from some Bundle/Giveaway, play it.
---------------- Short Desc:
+ Story
+ Good battle system (at least better then pure rpgmaker battle system)
+ Few class to chose for each hero
+ Items upgrade system
+ Some nice graphics (for example main heroes)
+ You can see enemies

- Too short, definitly
- "Mazes"
- Side quests (nice option but only few)
- Default graphics from RPGMaker for 15€? Really?
- Lack of map
- You can avoid most non-main enemies
- You can't see enemies HP while choosing enemy, that sucks
---------------- Opinion:
Game is okay, storyline and end is pretty cool but i see potential to make longer and better game. It costs too much. When you have it - it's worth to play it, but don't run to buy it. I see no point in making sub quest system when you can have only few of those, and walking around forest maze without any map with tons of entrances/exits to find 10 flowers, really? It should also have some warning "KEEP THOSE OBSIDIANS", making normal weapon is waste of material (i could only find 5-6 obsidians).

7/10 (instant -1 for RPGMaker, with such team they could made something better)
I guess it's best RPGMaker game i have played.
