About the Game

Sequel to the highly successful Operation Flashpoint, ARMA: Combat Operations is a first person tactical military shooter on the PC with large elements of realism and simulation. This game features a blend of large-scale military conflict spread across large areas alongside the more close quartered battles. You'll be thrust into the midst of an engaging and expanding storyline, fighting against smart, aggressive enemies who will continually provide a challenge over a massive landscape.
  • Story driven single player campaign: Write your own campaign storyline by choosing the right mission order when playing the 20+ missions. Play it differently next time and find new ways to victory!
  • Large scale multiplayer: Use ARMA Combat Operations' strong multiplayer mode and play battles where tanks supported by infantry and helicopters take control of an enemy city. The engine supports 50+ live opponents in a role of both friendly and enemy forces.
  • More than 30 weapons: Every weapon has unique firing characteristics featuring the new and improved recoil system.
  • Vast environment to explore: Explore Sahrani, an area over 400 square kilometers in size, full of flora and fauna.
  • More than 30 modern vehicles: All vehicles in the game can be controlled - tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, airplanes, civilian cars or even boats.
  • Multiple gunners: Utilize the multiple gunner positions on tanks and helicopters to rain death on your enemies both in multiplayer missions and single player campaign.
  • HDR Lighting effects: Ambushing an enemy with the sun in your eyes leaves you at the disadvantage. Think smart, fight better!
  • Real constellations and tides: ARMA's great depth even includes such features as fully simulated star maps, lunar cycles and tides. Watch where you park your vehicle, soldier!
  • Built-in mission editor: Create you own scenarios using the easy-to-use mission wizard, advanced built-in mission editor, scripting language or BI tools available online and share your creation with the game.

ARMA: Combat Operations is the sequel to ARMA: Cold War Assault (aka Operation Flashpoint) and features quite a bit more realism than its predecessor, although the learning curve somehow manages to remain manageable. Anyone can play this game.

What's in store for you is quite possibly one of the most fun multiplayer modes in any game, ever. Although the GameSpy shutdown makes it a lot harder to host and join servers, if you can find someone willing to host a private game and get a group of friends together and play, you are in for an incredibly entertaining, yet challenging and tactical experience.

However, I found the singleplayer gameplay severely lacking compared to Cold War Assault. Unlike Cold War Assault, Combat Operations' campaign and single player missions are riddled with issues and AI problems, language and translation issues (especially in mission briefings), a much less engaging storyline, a generic soundtrack (some of which are bad remixes of Cold War Assault tracks), poor mission design/scripting, and many more flaws which make the singleplayer mode not really worth playing.

Combat Operations features a highly in-depth, yet also very easy to learn mission editor. The basic format of the mission editor has been pretty much identical across the ARMA series. You can create absolutely anything, and then with just a few clicks export the mission to singleplayer and multiplayer modes. I can say that me and my friends have spent far more time playing our own missions than the game's default multiplayer scenarios (and not because those are bad, either). The mission editor practically made this game for us.

Overall, I think ARMA: Combat Operations is an incredible achievement in terms of just how much entertainment value you can get from the multiplayer mode. However, the singleplayer mode feels bland, boring, and poorly designed. For 8 dollars, though, this game is an absolute steal because of how good the multiplayer gameplay is with friends.

Be warned, however. At least one of my friends has suffered from technical issues with this game that render it unplayable. This occurs most often on modern Windows 8 computers. Use caution if you are interested in buying this game.

great great great game, tons of fun with this game. for being 6 years old this game is still awsome. the best part is making your own combat situations. though there is one draw back to this game, when i first downloaded it, there was a problem with the sound. though with a little research online it was an easy fix. i would recomend this game to any one that wants a strategy game mixed with a first person shooter.
