What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“An Early Access Beta Pack is your chance to experience and have an impact on Deadbreed® as it progress through the final stages of development. Be aware that, while our Early Access offer is already a great representation of the game, it’s still work in progress and therefore contains bugs, unfinished features and some unpolished content.

New features and improvements will be added regularly. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you understand what Early Access means and are ready to accept possible interruptions or flaws in your gaming experience. It makes most sense to play an Early Access game if, for instance, you want to support the development of the game, influence the development with your feedback or just want to get a taste of things.

The game will be available in several languages, but the Early Access version will only be in English.

Player feedback is very important to us, so we'd love to hear from you. Let us know what you think could be improved, what bugs you encounter and what we did right so far. The more you tell us, the better we can make the game.”

How long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current target is to complete the closed Beta phase by the end of the summer and move into open Beta.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access closed Beta is already a great representation of the game, however it’s still work in progress and therefore contains bugs which will gradually be fixed as we move through the Beta stages. In addition to this we also plan to add a couple of features and maps plus a set of Heroes, Artifacts, Totems and Sentinels to the full version of the game. We are also targeting several additional language versions of the game for the full version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We are at the initial stages of the Beta phase.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. However, there will be a "free-to-play" full version of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We've already gotten great feedback from the Steam Community in our Greenlight campaign and we hope this will evolve now that players get a chance to participate hands-on and help us improve the game by letting us know about any bugs encountered and hopefully providing constructive feedback and suggestions.”

Big Update tonight!

July 28th, 2014

Hello everyone, we have quite a few important core gameplay fixes in this patch, so let’s get to it.

First of all, as a thanks for playing and supporting the Early Access Beta and providing feedback to us (say thanks to those that did, if you didn’t)…

We are awarding 2 Gold Keys to everyone registered!

And by no coincidence, we are adding “locks” to the Netherclaws and Seraphim Wings Artifacts, so if you want to, you are able to try these out using your Gold Keys if you haven’t had the chance already (or you can use the keys to access and try out a new hero or two for a week).

Now to this update’s important fixes (these are really important things).

  • XP sharing is now working as intended, so you are able to get XP and level up properly.
  • Creep aggro and targeting is now much improved and in line with our intention. You are now able to sport that melee build and not get punished as hard.
  • Area of effect abilities (like Corpus’ Ooze etc.) are now visible to all players (finally you are able to see what affected you!).
  • The “Regen Fountain” in your base now inflicts damage to enemies.
  • Improved attack prediction/verification on “chasing” scenarios. Should be easier (possible) to hit now. In particular when using melee weapons.
  • Monoliths shouldn’t steal your kills or assists anymore.
  • Destroying a Monolith provides team gold.
  • Killing a Supreme Skeleton or Spider provides team gold.
  • The Troll shouldn’t go after the team that spawned him anymore, period.
  • Some improved movement and camera work on Heroes.
  • Some improved movement animations on Corpus, Brimstone and Brood.
  • Lilith now has her Voice Overs.
  • Updated/tweaked stats for XP and damage level up (with time) for Creeps.
  • Updated/tweaked stats and texts for many abilities. Including Brood’s Death Breath and Domini’s Huntsman to mention a few.
  • Updated/tweaked lots of popup/tooltip texts.
  • Hero Icons are no longer staying visible in the Minimap when a Hero dies.
  • Country flags now have their name displayed as a popup-text when you mouse over them.
  • Creeps have improved navigation.
  • The correct Player Meta Level should now be displayed at the load screen.
  • The post game screen has been improved (correct summaries for Creeps and Gold and your team should actually be…your team).

The hero customization factor is a major strategic and tactical game play element as you’ll figure out what equipment and play style/s work best for each of your heroes – should you play her/him as a melee warrior, ranged archer or perhaps a wizard, or are you skillful enough to adapt your hero build during the matches to counter what the enemy team is building?

Game Description

A Dark Breed of Heroes

Deadbreed® features a new, dark breed of Heroes. Choose from three distinct types of breed, depending on your personal taste in look and style of play, may it be Nightbreed, Halfbreed or Daybreed. There are just too many unique aspects that differentiate the breeds to list here, but keep in mind that the sight range of Night- and Daybreed varies with the day cycles and that some items can be limited to a specific breed.

Customization, Armory and Artifacts

Deadbreed® features a player centric customization feature, meaning the player has greater influence over his Hero’s look and capabilities. The items you equip not only shape the way the hero looks while playing, they dictate the way he/she moves and attacks to.

Equipping a sword and a shield will make your hero a melee fighter with the sword’s range, while re-equipping the same hero as an archer changes your range and attack to bow and arrow. This opens up totally new ways to explore custom items builds best suited for that particular hero’s abilities, opponents and game scenarios.

In addition to the possibility to adapt and remodel your favorite hero’s equipment choosing from a vast base armory, Deadbreed® features Artifacts. Artifacts are built during games like “normal” items, however they are unique meaning there can only be one in play at any given time during a game, adding an additional layer of strategy and tactical planning to hero item builds. In addition to this, Artifacts level up with games, unlocking relic slots that open up further customization opportunities for you to tune specific items for your favorite heroes. For fans of RPGs, the concept of “socketing” items should feel very familiar and for MOBA fans, you could really simplify this by saying we have moved the “runes” stats modifications associated with the player to individual items instead, and added unique effects on top to make these items really stand out in gameplay.

The Sentinels

The Sentinels are ancient guardians of the Deadbreed® bloodlines – arbitrators of the infernal battlegrounds where dead breed strive to break their undead bonds and lay to final rest. These immortal deities have been charged solely with construction of and ruling over the battlegrounds of death and decay as a punishment for their doings in the real world, but behind the façades, they vie for power while swaying the dead breeds to their philosophy – an eternal conflict among themselves for the right to lead an uprise from this hell and reclaim their rightful place in the cosmos.

As you progress in the game, you’ll uncover the cabal of the Sentinels and learn more about their individual weaknesses and strengths and how they fit your heroes and play style. You prove your Zeal for a Sentinel by choosing it as your Guardian in a match. Then the outcome of that game will modify your Standing with that particular Sentinel, affecting its strengths, abilities and enhancements in coming games making it a more formidable last boss for the enemy team to conquer in order to win (and the other way around). As your Zeal increases, you’ll open up further paths of the cabal and gain access to older and more powerful Sentinels to devote to. Will you stay loyal to a specific breed lineage or even a single Sentinel? There are strategic decisions to be made and rewards to be claimed on a daily basis as your loyalty to the Sentinels are put to the test.

Maps, Dungeons and PvE Features

The Early Access kicks off with The Graveyard. At its core, the Graveyard is a 3vs3 two-lane map with a Citadel at each end protected by monoliths. The overall goal of the map is to break the crux on the gates to gain access to the Citadel and defeat the enemy team’s Sentinel.

The Graveyard also features a Troll Cave where you can summon a Troll to fight for your side, two smaller dungeons on each team’ s side of the map and an entrance to a larger Dungeon placed dead center of the map. The concept of Dungeons is familiar to all hack’n slash fans – and our game has plenty of monsters and loot, however the big difference being that our Dungeons are much, much smaller in size and offer no way out than the way you went in, leaving you vulnerable to the enemy team. So, dungeons are our “mini-adventure” version of other MOBA’s monster nests.

Ranked Mode

Ranked mode allows you to test your skills against opponents of comparable skill and earn special ranks to reflect your skill. Winning and losing matches can gain or lose rank, and special rewards, like custom Insignia, gravestones etc. Each player's rank is reflected in their Gravestone and plaque. There are currently 5 divisions ranging from Bronze up to Diamond, with each division split in 5 series.

Early Access Review
Hello all,

This game has so many amazing MOBA ideas!!! Wow I can't wait for it to go to full launch.
As it stands I can only lay it out in Pros and Cons.

-Fantastic Art -The idea of customizing a hero to that depth is amazing -This game has the potential to create giant waves in the MOBA community

CONS (yes, it's beta or alpha i dunno. I'm forgivable)
-Everything is really really clunky - I just about smahed my keyboard looking for a way out of the equipment vendor
-you can't use minimap for directing your character. It feels like my hands are in cuffs while playing. It hurts!!!

I will be keeping this review up to date because I really want to follow this game and see it rise.
Good luck Devs!!!

Game is still in its earlier stages clearly, the store interface needs to be improved for one as well as some of the wonky abilities. There are a few balancing issues for sure but overall it's a really fun game with tons of potential.

Early Access Review

I am very sorry, this game has A TON of potential. But in it's current state I do not recommend this, at all. There are a TON of bugs, a very user-unfriendly interface (Both in-game and in the lobby) and no tutorial (Atleast have a tutorial when you're selling a MOBA)

Another reason being is the lack of players. The average amount of players is around 5. No I did not miss a 0 behind the 5. Literally 5 people. On a side note, I have bought the Beta Deluxe pack which is far from the value you would consider getting for 35 Euro's.

At the moment the choices in Breeds (Champions, Heroes, however you would like to call them) is very minimal. The ideas behind the Breeds is very good and innovative, having Daybreeds and Nightbreeds, depending on your Breed of choice this might, or might not, impact your abilities and/or game.

The thing I liked the most about the game is the ability to see what you have bought. By that, I mean that if you buy an axe for example, you are wearing that exact same axe in your hand, or both of your hands if you like to dual wield.

Despite of this game having alot of potential, having to pay atleast around 20 Euro's to get into the closed Beta is ridiculous, I understand it is Early Access but this has gone a bit too far.

You can also level up and gain Rank Points which you can spend to Upgrade your artifact, an in-game item which you have to buy with Silver Coins (Premium Currency) or the currency you gain by playing games, which is hard to do with a lack of players. You can also spend them on your breeds to increasy their stats such as Vitality, Strength etc.

People might say that the lack of players doesn't really matter this much because you can play against bots. There are 2 main problems with this. #1: Eventually you would like to play this game against people, if people have to play bot matches to give feedback, they might take the bots into consideration without noticing because a game with bots is far from the same as a game with actual players. #2: The bots are so damn easy, I have literally seen this a dozen times, an ally/enemy Breed attacks an enemy/ally breed while they are at 50 HP and the opposing breed is at Full-HP, this should be basic programming and should already be fixed. They also appear to not care about any Creep aggro what so ever since they will most likely die to Creeps more than to enemy Breeds. Instead of trying to kill you, they will ignore you when you are on low HP rather than chasing you a bit and trying to actually kill you.

Below I will list the pros and cons (My personal opinion) of this Early Access game (I am not a professional reviewer, I just like to write these. I am just a gamer with an opinion):

- Appearance changing depending on the items you buy.
- Interesting Breed "System".
- Cool theme, dark and creepy-ish.
- Good graphics, runs well on low-end PC's as well.
- Good concept with having PvE mixed in your PvP match, altough this needs alot of updates to be fun and good (For now it's just killing skeletons by clicking on them and waiting for them to die.
- The Behemoth, when you destroy the enemy Crux (Nexus, Ancient etc.) a doorway opens which leads to a Behemoth, which I have yet failed to kill because of the timer (!) on the one and only map available, for now.

- A ton of bugs, this can be forgiven by it being in an Early Access state, I am just stating reasons for why not to buy this game at THIS moment.
- A serious lack in players, ranging from 3-9 daily.
- A lack in Breeds.
- A clunky and non-immersive combat.
- Poor hitboxes, I have often see myself throwing my ability into someone's face and not hitting which is extremely frustrating.
- No tutorial, you have to hover over an item or object to have an indication of what it does or what it's purpose is.
- The difference in prices between the Barebones Pack and the Beta Deluxe Pack is too much for what it offers. Even though this isn't a direct influence of the game, I like to review the game for Price-Performance.
- Frustrating UI. You will be banging your keyboard trying to find your way out of the shop, trying to sell an item or trying to find that 1 item you want.
- It's worse than the F2P MOBA's out there in it's currrent state. But I do think that in the long-run this will be better.

Early Access Review
This game does look nice, but it is so ♥♥♥♥ing annoying.
Having to wait half a day just to play my first match, because players keep entering and leaving the "Match Players" system sucks. So basically you just have to wait a ♥♥♥♥load of time to play. And when you finally have a match, you have to wait again for the 6 people to accept the match if its 3v3, which sucks, if someone doesnt accept the match, it goes off and you have to restart it all over again.

Menus are all very old looking, gameplay isnt smooth. Just do not buy, not worth it , mostly, if you dont want to wait 1 hour to play a match.

I understand that this is early access, but thats no excuse for having to wait 1 hour to play the game on matchmaking.

Im glad I didnt buy this game (it was offered to me), cause If I had bought it (since I cant even try it), Id be mad as hell.

I've been beta testing Deadbreed and it totally rocks even at this early stage. Looks and plays very well. Love the bosses and the underground areas.
