"A roguelike inspired game somewhat similar to Binding of Isaac and Wizards Lizard. The art style could've been better, but the game mechanics are solid."

Version 1.7.6 is Live!

Hi everyone,

This is just a tiny update, but one that fixes a couple of potentially big issues.

Changelog:

  • The new enemy spawn system included in the previous patch, inadvertently led to the possibility of enemies (including bosses) that had the ability to teleport, teleporting outside of a boss room, becoming unreachable by the player. This has been fixed.
  • An issue with certain remapped keyboard/mouse controls not responding to the correct key/button press, or an incorrect image being shown has been fixed.
  • Player sword attack -> aim incorrect sprite bug fixed.

Version 1.7.5 is Live!

Hi everyone,

This patch addresses issues with difficulty, unfair/cheap deaths, Champion Mode improvements and much more. The changes should have a dramatic on how the game feels and plays, especially at higher ranks.

Changelog:

  • New chest: Yellow. Yellow chests only contain abilities. They are rarer than green chests and must be destroyed(they are bound in chains) in order to collect the ability.
  • Enemy collision response has been massively improved. The previous system had issues with enemies bouncing off of each other, or seemingly charging/popping instantaneously from one position to another (many times directly into the player). There were also issues with knocking enemies back, where enemies could block each other, forming an almost impenetrable wall. The new system fixes these issues.
  • Champion Mode has been improved. When a good champion wisp explodes, it will inflict the blind status effect on all susceptible enemies, as well as cause a large amount of damage in its explosion radius. Good champion heart drop chance has also been increased. Evil champion movement speed has been decreased. Good/evil champion ratio is now context sensitive; depending on the players current predicament, he/she will be more(or less) likely to encounter one type over the other. Champion spawning is now staggered, so they won't all appear on top of the walls at the same time.
  • Pro Mode option added to options screen. Turn on to disable all warning, ability and item popups. Good for players that already know the game well and want to avoid the interruptions from popups.
  • Arrow traps will no longer activate if the pressure pad is activated off-screen. This is to ensure that rogue projectiles do not appear from nowhere due to an enemy triggering the trap off-screen.
  • All enemy status effect immunities have been reevaluated. Most enemies are now much more susceptible.
  • Minimum room size increased. Rooms will feel more spacious at higher ranks, with more room to avoid enemies/traps.
  • Enemies will no longer spawn near the player when entering a new room.
  • Luck now lasts for 1 minute (used to be 30 seconds) and has been improved.
  • Mines dropped by Goblins are now bigger, so should be easier to spot.
  • Evil Chest teleport attack radius has been reduced.
  • Token wells now drop a necklace as well as gold when it spits out treasure. Treasure values are: gold 10, ring 25, necklace 100. This will be much more useful for leveling the Companion Chest quicker.
  • Spinning blade shooters will no longer shoot projectiles if they are off-screen.
  • Mini Lilly and Toadstool enemies will no longer shoot if they are taking damage. This prevents cheap/unfair deaths due to taking damage at point blank range whilst hitting them with the sword.
  • Spear thrower enemy range decreased slightly.
  • Eye enemy movement speed decreased slightly.
  • Arrow projectiles have had their speed decreased slightly.
  • All bosses that shoot projectiles have now had their projectiles reset properly when encountered again.
  • The shield HUD no longer obscures part of the second row of hearts.
  • Chest damage scale fixed. The accidental overwriting of a sprite caused chests to enlarge after too much damage.
  • Companion Chest Dash ability incorrect sprite fixed.

Thanks for playing!

Happy Dungeoneering!

About This Game

Combining its own unique take on the real-time roguelike genre, with a nostalgic 16-bit look and feel, Diehard Dungeon is a game that feels both familiar and quite different at the same time.

Followed by a trusty, treasure collecting companion chest, you must make your way through the dungeons many randomly-generated rooms and levels. Armed with a sword and a ‘hand cannon’, all manner of nasty dungeon dwellers, bosses and traps will need to be defeated or traversed in order to emerge from the dungeon victorious!

To aid you in your quest, you may be lucky enough to encounter one or more upgrades, or new abilities scattered throughout the dungeon, or bump into the remnants of other players (Champions) via the unlockable 'Champion Mode'. Champions wander atop the dungeon walls, ready to unleash their souls upon passers by. Be careful though, as not all Champions are helpful.

A randomly generated dungeon is created every playthrough, with many secrets and multiple outcomes.

The game features a dynamic difficulty and ranking system - the better you do, the more challenging the game will become. Only the most skilled dungeon escapees will attain the highest ranks.

Do you have what it takes to survive the dungeon?

Minigames

  • Mayhem: You have 3 minutes to get a high score by any means necessary. Mayhem is easy to learn, but difficult to master.
  • Survival: An endless series of progressively harder dungeon rooms. Avoid receiving damage and clear rooms within the time limit for bonuses.
  • Fading Light: Coming soon!

Each minigame has a global leaderboard.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: XP, Vista, Win 7, Win 8
    • Processor: Dual Core 2.0 GHz
    • Memory: 256 MB RAM
    • Graphics: 128MB video RAM and at least Shader Model 2.0

+ Cool concept
+ Tough but fair
+ Retro graphics
+ Procedurally generated dungeons = replayability

- Random crap on traps make them practically invisible
- There's also a bit of luck involved

Game is like Binding of Isaac meets Zelda(like a lot o previous reviewers has already pointed out). Can't say I had any big hopes but it's cheap and I thought what the hell. Now, I've played 10h plus and I'm still going. Everytime I enter the dungeon is different, all rooms are randomly generated and you'll never know what's behind that next door!

Personally I think the level up system is really cool; the better you get, the tougher the monsters get. That's what it's all about, eh? No being level. 100 and slaughtering small level. 1's.

Also, there are a lot of cool and useful perks/boosts that you can find while exploring the dungeon, wich adds to this great experience!

It's on sale for another week! Buy it!

Top-notch dungeon crawler! Diehard Dungeon is, well, a dungeon where you die - hard.

It starts out easy, but as you progress and your rank increases, you get put into more difficult dungeons with chaos exponentially growing (hopefully with your skill also growing at the same rate). Along the way, you get power-ups which give you random bonuses (like extra life, firing three pellets from your gun, etc.) and, of course, some are much better than others.

Also, minigames - they're there! Along your trek, you will stumble upon little games that will give you fantastic items (like the Forget-me-Not) and will prolong the little game, which, at it's core, is basically you standing in the corner, firing your gun at the approaching enemies, and collecting LOTS of loot with your Companion Chest (who, in fact, is a GREAT companion)

It's repetitive in nature, but with all the content inside, it's difficult to get bored.

I love it. I suck at it, but it's a great game.

If you like Zelda: A Link To The Past and you wanted a game that was significantly harder and had randomized dungeons, this is for you.

I wonder if there is any sort of plot in the game, though. I can't get far enough into it without dying! :)

What is a... DieHard Dungeon?

It's like a Zelda game. You collect stuff (gold, power ups , keys...) and kill the opponents. Pretty similar isn't it? Well yes but the difference is that It's a Rogue-Like game (perma-death and tough difficulty).

#Gameplay#
Game feels like Zelda, no doubts. You collect stuff and go deeper in the dungeon. The dungeons rooms are randomly generated, each run might be different.
Your companion is a Chest. Chest will help you in game ONLY if you feed it with gold.

There are secrets rooms in this game!

#Music#
Music isn't best side of this game. It's not the best but It's not the worst. It's in between.

#Difficulty#
Game difficulty on start is easy but later after several level-ups, game becomes tougher and tougher.
Each level up increases amount of opponents and reduces chance to obtain a perk.

To increase difficulty, you can always turn the Champion Mode ON.

#Cons#
Well I don't really see many cons in this game, except the fact that you can't rebind keys... YET.
Developer said that he is working on it. When It will be implemented? I don't know.

Developer is updating this game very frequently, so be sure that he will fix bugs and implements some ideas (Check discussion for more info).

Price of this game is very cheap. So why not give a try?
