A fun arcade Halo game for anybody, whether you enjoy the Halo franchise or not.

The gameplay is, obviously, very arcade-y as I believe it was intended for mobile devices. Being said, the port to PC allows for a very casual, but enjoyable gameplay. Campaign is fun and full of typical Spartan killing sprees against Grunts, Jackals, Elites, and Brutes.

My only gripe is the vehicle control in game. It is extremely terrible and can be quite confusing.

'Sneaks into Phil Spencers house'

'Enters his bedroom'

'Makes sure to close all the doors, Halo 2 theme playing on my phone'

'I lean over his bed, and stare him with a death glare, straight in the eyes, like a Hawk to Prey

I say these words...

"Im still waiting to finish the fight, Phil"

This is a very fun and time consuming game. Its no Halo 5 but its the best we can do on steam. The mission's are very fun, and keep you wanting to play more! The only problem i have is that i wish they would add more missions ad DLC. 9/10

An excellent game with great graphics - but you might find a problem

It was a fun game. Very fun, in fact. Top-down shooter with fantastic graphics and fun varying weapons. However, I can't recommend it because nothing I do can restore the executable files - its unplayable. It may happen to you.

Obviously not quite the same as a normal Halo game. It has a very arcade feel to it but it's still a fun game, surprisingly the fight against Merg Vol is probably one of the best boss fights in the Halo series.

Pure fecal matter. Too many people can't even get this worthless product to load even when reinstalling it or coming back to play again. And it seems there's no fix in sight. A definite don't purchase and if you do? You will say to yourself, yep they told me it didn't work.

  • No multi screen support - game is available only in fullscreen (and other screen are blacked out). When minimised, it goes into window mode however there is no such setting in the options. To change it back you have to change resolution to another one (because otherwise apply button is disabled) and then back to your desired resolution.
  • The game is made of short (a few minutes long) missions with no saves nor checkpoints - you die, you start again.
  • Items lack explanation - you know nothing about them other than their image.
  • UI and UX are rather bad - I never know whether I hit that guy and he took some damage or not.
  • In one of the missions I have to escort two tanks that are quite happy to drive over me killing me instantly.

This game is a good little game to play, it has some good ideas and it is reasonably fun to play. Don't be fooled, this is not halo wars. as much as i'd love it to be, it is not. This game is good to play but it isn't that big. it's a good take on the halo universe and the textures are good.

pros:
> textures are decent
> good game for the price

cons:
> fun but too small
> need more levels and more game modes

Not as good as I was hoping.
Alright for one quick playthrough if you are a big Halo fan.
Lacking value as far as entertaining computer games go.
To be honest... not worth the time I put into playing it.

Controls are utter garbage and are prone to errors, POV is terrible and makes it hard to actually lign up a shot, rendering anything that you cannot spray and pray with useless. Controls cannotbe adjusted and the mouse sensitivity is rediculously dull. Save your money for somthing actually worth playing

I'd say that this was a good run. It really made me spend some hours into this game, especially as a Halo fan.

Halo: Spartan Assault is a Top-Down Shooter that is a "prequel?" to Halo: Spartan Strike, and as noticed by the gameplay, it is significantly different from all the other Halo First Person Shooters you all know in love. But it is still considered a Halo game in my standards and it definitely deserves some recognition.

As with the story, you play as the characters that are seen in Halo 4, Spartan Palmer and Spartan Davis. As it takes place before the events of Halo 4, you're met with a series of missions in each specific Operation. There are 5 missions in each Operation and there are a total of 6 Operations altogether. Depending on your pacing of the game, it may take you less than a day up to a couple of days at the most to complete this game, depending if you're getting the achievements or not.

Lots of things return from the previous Halo games along with other stuff that are non-existant in Halo: Spartan Assault. One of the most famous things to return is the Armor Abilities. Along with the previous ones returning such as the Active Camoflage, the Autosentry, and Sprint also returns as an Armor Ability. Besides the old ones, there are new Armor Abilities that can be very effective and sometimes overpowered. The Overshield is one of the most overpowered Armor Abilites you can have in the game.

Some of the beloved vehicles return from Halo Wars as well. The Grizzly is the only vehicle from Halo Wars that is drivable, the others like the Hawk, Wolverine, and even the Elephant are just there for asthetics.

No Battle Rifle or some other fan loved weapons don't exist. :(

In my opinion, Halo: Spartan Assault had more replayablility than it did on Halo: Spartan Strike. Even after you finish the game, you still had to do some of the Spartan Ops that are available in every mission, but the only difference is that the Spartan Ops in Spartan Assault made you do more work than in Spartan Strike, sometimes having you to replay that mission more than once and making it tedious just to complete that specific Spartan Op. But after completing them all and earning all the achievements, it really does make you feel like you've achieved something after all that hours you put into (That is, if you're planning to do that).

Probably the only bad parts of this game are the sometimes tedious Spartan Ops and no multiplayer for this version. Since only the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions have multiplayer, it should be fair that the PC version should get multiplayer as well in my opinion.

$5 is worth it in my opinion and it's $1 cheaper than Halo: Spartan Strike, so you're basically geting more bang for your buck for this game. I know the gameplay isn't everybody's cup of tea, but you should still try this, Halo fan or not. If you're not convinced, then this game contains trading cards and Halo theme backgrounds and emoticons that some or most Halo fans want (Including myself).

In conclusion, Halo: Spartan Assault is a very decent Top-Down Shooter as it stands for most Halo fans and everyone else to try.

Should you buy this game?
As a Halo fan, you should! Looking for some decent games or getting into Halo? Give both Spartan Assault and Spartan Strike a try. Or you could just wait for this game to go on sale if that suits your tastes.
9.5/10

Top Down Halo Shooter. TBH When i saw it i didn't even check to see what it was i just bought it cus i love halo. You get what you pay for. It's $5 and it's pretty fun and can be pretty challenging. It's like if halo was made by an indie company. The storyline is aight and the game play is pre fun. But at some point for me it felt like a chore to finish. More halo for pc 6/10

If you appreciate Halo's open ended combat and you like twin stick shooters, I highly recommend this title. It's not particularly long, but I may jump back in to get a Gold Ranking on everything. For the price, it's definitely worth it.

If you're looking for a great "podcast" title, this game works perfectly. I skipped every story segment as I'm not a huge fan of the Halo lore.

If you're a perfectionist, this game can definitely scratch that itch without being too frustrating. stages are the right length so it's never too offensive if you have to redo a whole stage because you barely missed the score needed for a Gold.

Overall, I was impressed.

Halo Spartan Assault is a game that doesn't get all the attention that it deserves, yet it doesn't live up to the other Halo games in the series such as : Halo 2 or Halo 3, but this game has some Pros and Cons...

Pros
- Solid Vehicle gameplay and Marine/Enemy AI.
- Nice skulls system, it makes the game a bit more interesting.
- Game is very beautiful in terms of graphics and display.
- Story is pretty interesting and levels are fun.

Cons
-None

Top reasons to like: A new story and is somewhat fun. This game feels really likeable and re uses the models from Halo Wars. The enemies know how to play as far as AIs go. Also most (will clarify in cons) feel fair and fun to use. If your up for a challenge, replayability is good too.

Cons: It doesnt have the features of the xbox one version (add them now developers and not as dlc). i really would like to do the co op with friends. You can also "buy" into the campaign with premium weapons that are insanely overpowered. A 400 shot auto rocket launcher..... really ._. .

Im actually enjoying this game right now! Never was into halo games but this game kept me going. Missions can be beating within 10mins or less. Does have some difficult but for a top down halo game this is a good game!

Pros
Great graphics
sound
video is amazing
Smooth control system
Nice mission design
Nice vehicle combat

Cons
Models and weapons not many
Game is too short
No co-op or online
