Multiplayer Fixes! New DrinkBox workshop skins!! Sale!!!

Hey there Steam,
We’d like to tell you about a long-brewing update we’ve just put up that provides a few minor fixes, plus a dab of bonus content. Feast your eyes on the sumptuous changelist below:

  • Enhancements to the costume creator: Instead of custom skins always changing appearance to Juan/Tostada while in Intenso mode, you can now specify whether they Intenso-fy as J/T or just as a gleaming version of the custom skin. You can also turn off the glow that appears around them while in the opposite dimension, which is handy if the skin has changed your character’s silhouette so that it wouldn't match the normal glow shape.
  • Players who had an issue where their computer would run the game super-too-fast should hopefully now find that to be resolved. Please email us at support AT drinkboxstudios DOT com if you still see anything similar cropping up post-patch.
  • Some changes to better support the new 3- and 4-player mode, as well as miscellaneous other bug fixes. For more detail, see the full changelist
  • And the fun part: play as your favourite NPC! We’ve added to the Workshop for both Guac STCE and Gold Edition custom skins to let you play as X’Tabay, Uay Chivo, Flameface or Jaguar Javier. Steam user Mujizik worked with us to create these lavishly animated reskins, and they’re free to download as of today.

Finally, we’re having a sale! Guacamelee (STCE, Gold and the Complete bundle) will be 80% off on Steam for the next week! Tell all your Guac-deprived friends.

“Guacamelee Super Turbo Champion Edition offers one of the best-designed and most original takes on the well-worn metroidvania phenomenon you'll ever find.”
4.5 / 5 – US Gamer

Super? Turbo?? *Championship????*

Guacamelee! STCE is an enhanced version of Guacamelee! Gold Edition that adds in two huge new levels, an explosive new ‘Intenso’ power mode, 4-player local co-op support and more. You’ll need to use every bit of your skill and power to defeat STCE’s new challenges (including a scheming new boss- El Trio de la Muerte), in addition to everything the original game's sprawling world has to throw at you.

About This Game

Carlos Calaca has kidnapped El Presidente's Daughter, and he plans to sacrifice her in order to merge the World of the Living with the World of the Dead.

Juan Aguacate, an agave farmer who stumbles upon a Legendary Luchador mask, must find the strength and courage to become the Hero he's always dreamed of being and put a stop to this.

Guacamelee! is a Metroidvania-style action-platformer set in a magical world inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore. The game features melee combat, parallel dimensions and same-screen co-op. The original Guacamelee! received wide critical acclaim and was a finalist for both IndieCade and the Independent Games Festival's Excellence in Visual Art award.

Key Features

  • Non-Stop Fighting Action. An extensive move list, advanced combo engine, and anti-gravity grabs
  • Multi-dimensional Platforming. Instantly swap between the Worlds of Living and Dead to traverse impossible terrain
  • Combat moves double as movement, uniting platforming and fighting in a way never seen before
  • Diverse, detailed world containing lively towns, dark forests, flowery canals and fiery volcanoes
  • Drop in/out 4-Player local co-operative play, featuring independent dimension swapping
  • Multiple boss characters (each with unique back stories), wide range of foes, and elite-class enemies
  • Spectacular player abilities: The Rooster Uppercut, Frog Slam, and “Intenso” turbo-combat mode
  • Create new custom costumes and share these with others via Steam Workshop
  • Steam leaderboards, achievements and trading cards, support for multiple save slots, persistent cross-save-game costume unlocks
  • Chickens. Lots and lots of chickens.

Please note that the ‘Super Turbo Championship Edition’ of Guacamelee! is an updated version of the previously-released Guacamelee! Gold Edition.

Good game, inspired by the metroidvania style of gaming while adding a different visual style and a colorful simple story.

It has LOTS of extras, quest item search, challenges that make you want to complete it, and the sytem of combat and combos make it real fun to play.

A must play really.

wow, i love 3 hour segments where enemies are constantly dropping into the screen, making it impossible to attack or even see where the hell i am so that some tall skeleton can punch 12 miles away from me and make me explode instantly making me have to do everything all over again.

Because I own over 1000 games, I never really bothered to look at this game before. However, in the 2016 Summer Games Done Quick Marathon, Guacamelee was played and it seemed fun. So I decided to give it a go.

To start, Guacamelee is a platformy fighter kind of game, but since you are reading this review, I'll spare you the trouble of repeating what the description already says. The gameplay is really smooth and really good to say the least. The physics are consistent, the platforms are good, the hitboxes of enemies are consistent and normal, and the game just does a very good job with all the platforming and abilities. To put it short, you won't rage at this game because of some glitch. You have some basic moves and you pick up more along the way which allow you to continue your journey on. The difficulty gets harder and harder as you progress through the story and because you start unlocking more abilities, the need to combo them and use them correctly adds to how it gets harder. However, no matter how hard it got, the game always gave ample save points and checkpoints that wouldn't punish you too much. Some of the platforming parts and fights actually took me so many tries (over 20 with some). The boss fights for this are also very smoothed out. Almost all of the bosses had two "phases" or more where they have a different attack pattern or form. You go in blind, die to their attacks because you don't know what they are and then go in again and learn from your mistakes. It is a Dark Souls type of boss fighting experience, but easier. Lastly on the gameplay, there are a LOT of secrets and extra exploration areas to go to which make the game quite interesting.

Aside from the gameplay, Guacamelee has an interesting story, even if some parts may be intentionally cliche. Since we are on the story, there are certain parts of it that are actually funny and sometimes they even make meme jokes and references. The art of this game is also super crisp and nice. It also features a unique style of art which I enjoyed quite a bit. There is also nothing to complain about with the music as it fits the game perfectly and is just quite good.

Overall, I really cannot find many faults with this game at all. It is just simply fun, smooth, and well done. I really appreciate SGDQ for introducting this game to me and I would recommend this game to anyone.

Guacamelee is a metroivania platformer set in a cartoonish, hilarious Mexican world. You play as Juan, a humble agave farmer turned undead luchador. As you progess, you will unlock more and more fighting moves to allow you to access new areas. The platforming challenges are very good, and will test your ability to use all of Juans move to progess, or get to hard-to-reach rewards. This game is full of well hidden secrets to discover. The biggest highlight is the combat system. It may feel unintuitive at first, but after some time and additional moves unlocked, you will be dishing out "CARNAGE!" to hordes of unique enemies. The boss fights are also very good as well. It took me about 15 hours to 100 percent the normal game, though the time it takes may vary depending on completion level and skill.

Note: THIS IS THE VERSION OF THE GAME YOU WANT TO GET. Super turbo championship edition has additional levels, challenges, bosses, features, etc. that the gold and original version do not have.

This has become one of my favorite games on steam. I would recommend this to anyone craving a platformer game, especially to someone with a metroidvania craving. The game has enough content that I think it would be a worthwhile buy even at full price. If on sale, BUY IT WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT.

Picturesque and colurful Metroidvania game with cartoonish aesthetics, challenging platforming and spanking combat system. Guacamelee is old school game to the nth degree - inspired by Mexican folklore, anime and telenovelas.

This is basically the same game as Guacamelee Gold, except with a bit of added fluff. Please do not support dishonest business practices and just skip this game altogether. Having to rebuy the game again without even the slightest discount is in no way justifiable.

The technical aspects aren't much to look at either, the game either has huge input lag or A LOT of screen tearing, depending on your VSync settings. Pick your poison.

This game also still does not support online coop, despite the developer saying in the original game that he wanted to implement it, but did not have the time. Yet they apparently had enough time to re-release the same game with a few added skins and a few more enemies? Right...

I'd say vote with your wallet. The developers do not deserve your money.

Guacamelee Gold was one of my favorite pick ups here and I'm glad they did not take long to bring the update here. This game is not only a worthy update but a good starting point for someone who has never played Guacameelee before. I know some people are upset about having to pay for an update but they packed a lot into this. 2 extra levels along with new secrets, intensio mode and my personal favorite a new set of Steam Trading Cards!!

The only negative I can say is my hands still haven't recovered from all the abuse I put them through last time to get 100% on the achievements. But what's a little carpal tunnel to enjoy more of this great universe.

[✔] Superb and highly fitting soundtrack.
[✔] Great and subtle humor and storyline that doesn't get old.
[✔] Non-linear/Sequence breaking possible.
