Murder Miners X has AAA-quality Netcode

Hey murderers, sorry again for the lack of updates on Murder Miners X (the sequel to Murder Miners). Jonny's had some big technical hurdles to get past while developing this game so he hasn't been as productive lately, but updates should start to get more frequent once he gets back to programming the more fun and exciting features. One of the things that took him awhile to get right was our networking solution, Bolt (now called Photon Bolt after the buyout). This is the best networking engine you can purchase for Unity. It means we basically have AAA-quality networking, with features like authoritative movement and lag compensation.

Another thing that's been taking a lot of time is perfecting our animation system, trying to get aiming/rotating, strafing, etc. to work properly (unlike in MM1, where aiming straight up doesn't look correct from 3rd-person view, and doing a 180 turn just rotates the whole player around without leg movement, and strafing/backward walking animations don't exist). This has been pretty complicated, but we'll show this off in our next sneak peek video.

In the meantime, here's some progress on a new weapon that will be in the game.

About This Game

Murder Miners is the #1 rated Xbox Live Indie Game. We still host community playdates every Wednesday at 6PM Central. Join the Murder Miners Steam group to be notified of the weekly playdate. We'll also notify you when the sequel, Murder Miners X, is released on Steam Early Access.

Halo-inspired core gameplay

3-shot-kill pistol included, with new additions such as wall-jumping, unlimited sprint, multi-directional dashing, alt-fire modes, and the ability to choose any weapon at spawn.

Unique Infection mode

One player starts as a zombie with the goal of infecting the other players until they've all turned over to the zombie army. The humans can use the Minergun to build forts, while the zombies can dig through walls and use their tentacle grab to reach higher places or pull players toward them. Unique to our game is the ability to feast on player corpses to level up your zombie. You can play this mode with up to 30 players. We'll usually have a full 30 player lobby in our weekly JForce play date. Come join us! It's a very intense experience when you're the last man standing and you have a whole swarm of player-controlled zombies coming after you.

Online co-op map making + completely destructible maps

The Minergun makes map-creation easy and fun. Almost every popular map you can think of has been remade by our community, and you can share them via Steam Workshop.

I really wanted to like this game. I really did. Of course though, Steam is full of surprises. This game retails as, "A classic Halo-type game!" In reality though, it's like those free mobile shooters, and it is JUST like them. Cashing in on the GREAT MINECRAFT SHOOTERS AND MINCRIFT YAY. Horrible controls such as, push IN the mouse wheel to ADS/scope in. The ONLY way to switch weapons is the mousewheel, grenade is right mouse button, melee is f, etc. But....U CANT CHANGE THE CONTROLS. This game is so smaaaaaaaaalllllll and if it's a 2/3 or low player count, the game is too slow and is like walking in BF Bad Company in the campaign and the gunfights are horrible. Also, if you have more than let's say 8 players, you will die EVERY SINGLE 30 SECONDS. People can hide since you can mine...with a gun only...oh let's get into the weapons after I say some people hide for the WHOLE MATCH. The weapons. 5 main ones DEFINITELY NOT COPYING HALO JUST LIKE THE ARMOR AND GAMEMODES. There's an Assault Rifle, a shotgun, a pistol/the magnum, and also, did I say there are shields copied off of Halo and all the sounds are FROM Halo? (at least from my memory) There's also a sniper rifle and a miner gun as the main weapons. Then the other ones are a sword that barely even works and I will never get a kill with it...especially since i refunded...a hookshot/grappling hook, and a battle rifle.

I rate this game a solid 5.25/10 for being a bad mobile/Xbox 360 shooter with horrible controls, gameplay, and will make you wonder why Blood Gulch was ever so fun. Oh wait nevermind it's ust THIS GAME SUCKS EVEN FOR LESS THEN A DOLLAR

Although hosts sometimes kick you when you do too well, in my experience, it doesn't happen all the time, it just depends on what game type you're playing and what server you're on, plus whoever's hosting. In games like this, there will always be immature players that don't like what you're doing for whatever reason and the best solution is to either uninstall the game or avoid that server altogether and join a different one. Don't let them ruin your fun. Infection is a lot of fun and seems to be the meat of the game. It gets chaotic pretty fast and the matches are over in a heartbeat, so you quickly go from one map to the next, keeping the variety fresh. Every map I've played on so far has had a different feel to it and you'll want to keep playing just to see what pops up next. As of the time I'm writing this review, there are plenty of people playing and it's easy to find a match with a decent amount of players. I could see myself playing this game for a while because it reminds me of old school fast paced shooters that I grew up on and loved like Halo: Combat Evolved. I find that the skills I learned playing that game quickly transferred to this one, so it was easy to pick up and play. Right now, it's dirt cheap, so there's really no excuse not to own this if you're looking for a fun competitive multiplayer game to play with a good amount of content.

Pros:
+ Great base controls
+ Vehicles
+ Nice hud
+ Great character customization
+ Good physics
+ Plug-and-Play controller support. You can literally plug your controller in and instantly play the game with it.

Cons:
- Vehicles are hard(er) to control
- Lack of color, very bland base textures
- Melee feels off
- Most player-hosted servers feel laggy
- Not enough lobby settings
- Bad zombie AI, either too easy or too
- Not enough graphic settings

Graphics and Performance
+ Textures (even though they are bland) they have a good amount of depth
+ Higher fps on worse computers
- A few graphical errors
- Not enough graphic settings

In Conclusion:
The game is a great game with a pretty good community. Its great if you have a few extra dollars and a few friends. Its also very easy to set up private games for you and your friends. It has easy to use controls and settings. Any issues will most likely be solved in the new game as well. A must buy if on sale.

Graphics - 9.5/10
Optimization - 4/10
Soundtrack - 9/10
Gameplay - 9.4/10
Online - 7/10

Even though I got this for free through VG247, this game was the worst game I've played on Steam. It's like if Halo ♥♥♥♥ed Minecraft, and had a baby. That's how bad it is. Even worse, the servers on the game are mostly EMPTY, and the game severs that are NOT EMPTY are filled with 8 year old ♥♥♥♥♥es, who kick you off the server, for no apparent reason.

Update: Just got a angry response from one of their ♥♥♥♥in developers. Thanks JForce, for being such a pain the ♥♥♥!

-Quick Review-
Murder Miners is an indie FPS developed by JForce Games and released 2014. Lets get this meta description done that everyone has already said for this game: It's basically Halo + Minecraft inspired.

-Detailed breakdown review-
Story: There's no game story, so instead I'll tell you the story how I got this game. My brother was like "Hey, lets play this game", and I said "oh, okay." and he gave the game to me as a gift for Christmas.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=701999407

Gameplay: You can tell the game's controls and mechanics were inspired by halo (because of the shield, shield recharge, weapons, vehicles etc). And you can also tell it's been inspired by Minecraft because of the square boxes the environment is made out of and... ya know, the name.
You have about eight weapons, your character's armor is customization, before you spawn in you select two weapons to use, servers can have different themes, weapon limitations, etc. The generic FPS modes are here of course: Death Match, and Zombie survival.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=701999374

Community: It's worth while to make note when there are games that go the extra mile to create a comunity.
While I will admit I haven't participated in any yet, Murder Miners does boast having a community. After playing enough indie games where no one else is playing, it's definitely note worthy when you come across one that has scheduled events.
(It is posted all over including on my review and in their game; but join their community steam group to get notifications on when they are hosting community events)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=701999344

Conclusion: All in all, I don't have much to say about this game. It does what it's advertised to do. It was fun to play a few matches with my brother. I'm not really the target audience for this game. I could take it or leave it.

I have very deep roots to this game. MM and I go way back to when it was first released on Xbox 360. I've been playing it ever since. Would definitely recommend it. I really don't even see any cons to this game. Just straight up fun.

You are probably looking at the graphics and name, and are extremely skeptical. Trust me, I was as well. However, hidden underneath the minecraft graphics and halo character models, is actually a solid, addicting first person shooter.Notice that almost all negetive reviews are from people with only about 0.5 hours. You have to give the game time. Most people don't like it at first. Sure, it would be over priced if it was 60 dollars, but it's only 2 dollars! The gameplay feels like a cross between the original halo, and the new DOOM. If there was a single player campaign, it would be better than Halo. The community is great, and the mechanics are easy to learn. Please give this game a try. It's well worth 2 dollars. BUY. THIS. GAME.
