G8 is a high-quality noise gate with many tricks up its sleeve. It is both a professional dynamics workstation and an experimental amplitude effect. Use it for noise reduction, AM/granular synthesis, bouncing ball rhythm programming, tremolo, trajectory panning, transient shaping, and much, much more.

Compatibility Note

G8 requires a VST/AU host (called a DAW), and has only been tested to work on 64-bit operating systems. Please see our compatibility chart at http://unfilteredaudio.com/g8compatibility.html before purchasing. G8 works on all of the listed DAWs, but each DAW treats G8's inputs and outputs differently.   • “Cycle” and “One-shot” gating modes give you the ability to use G8 as a stutter effect, AM/granular, or tremolo.
  • Customizable MIDI inputs and outputs allow you to trigger G8 from MIDI clips or to synchronize instruments to G8 for drum replacement or groove extraction. Combined with G8’s alternative gating modes, you can create intricate rhythms, bouncing ball effects, or MIDI clips with granular trigger patterns. Synchronize two instances of G8 over MIDI for the ultimate customizable sidechain.
  • “Reject” Outputs allow you to hear the audio that gets blocked by the gate. Use this innovative feature to create amplitude-dependent effect chains.
  • "Flip mode" swaps the regular outputs with the Reject Outputs. Use G8 as a strange compressor, or remove grains from your audio.
  • Expert Mode contains an advanced routing, amplitude, and filtering matrix for each channel, as well as individual input monitors for up to 4 channels. Use this to clean up the analysis input with even more precision, or to create unpredictable gating polyrhythms.
  • Sidechain support (in select hosts, please see the compatibility list for more information).
  • Independent Analysis Gain and Output Gain controls eliminate the frustration of balancing your mix with your ideal analysis level.
  • RMS and Peak style metering selection ensures that you will always have the right tool for the job.
  • Lookahead control with accurate latency reporting to the host.
  • Wet/Dry control for parallel gating, compression, or expansion. The dry signal is latency-compensated to prevent any unwanted phase issues.
  • Variable Reduction controls the depth of the gating, from full silence to barely-there disturbances.
  • Hysteresis and Hold parameters to prevent “chatter” or unwanted dropouts.
  • Locking modes allow you to keep specific parameters frozen on preset change.

Gr8 g8 m8, I r8 8/8 and have no h8. It must have been f8.
Seriously though, it's a great plugin and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of gating functionality that is of a higher level than basic plugins. It also can give you some interesting effects that really don't sound like gating.
As a side note, it's a bit weird to get used to using on FL Studio, but it still functions properly and does its job very well once you do.

G8 Dynamic Gate by Unfiltered Audio is a full-featured, yet user-friendly gate plugin that is versatile, sounds great, has negligible latency, and a low CPU hit. The interface is clean and efficient. In addition to excelling at usual noise gating (threshold, reduction, mix controls, AHR envelope, etc.) — the G8 is also capable of tremolo chopping, bouncing ball and stutter FX, trajectory panning, transient shaping, granular synthesis, grain removal, etc.

Firstly a kind of a warning: this is a pretty advanced and specialized audio tool. If you're the kind of person who just loads up a load of instruments then loads up a bunch of effects to slap down on them, twiddle the knobs, adjust the faders until everything sounds good then call it a day (the kind of person I am really, but I'm trying to learn and grow beyond that) then this VST is going to be not much use to you.

If you're the kind of person who is comfortable doing sidechain compression for example and hence messing about with the audio routing of your DAW then you probably in fact already know what a gate effect is and whether you need one.

Given that to get the most out of the plugin you're going to have to know how to do audio routing in your DAW anyway I'm not counting the following observation/advice as a warning, but it needs to be said that if you plop an instance of G8 into FL Studio you can play around with the knobs and buttons on the effect all you like, it will have no audible effect: you will continue to get the whole unaltered signal coming through. Compare this with Ableton Live where plopping down a G8 into your track will leave you immediately able to hear the gate's effect and play with all the settings.

Here's what you have to do in FL Studio to be able to hear an effect: pop a G8 instance into an empty mixer channel. Click on a mixer channel with an instrument or something in then right click on the little "send" up arrow at the bottom of the channel G8 is in and select "sidechain to this channel only". This will route the audio from the instrument to the channel with the G8 effect in and also break the send from the instrument channel to the main channel. If you don't do this and do a normal send you will still be able to hear the full, unaltered instrument and thus won't be able to hear the gate effect.

Now go into the G8 GUI, into the settings then on the "Processing" tab, right click the 1. 1/2 box on the left and select your input channel by name. On the right you can right click the outputs 1. 1/2 and 2. 3/4 to two free channels: insert 100 and insert 101 (I think this is just the default setup and you probably can send to any channel).

Now finally after all that you will have two channels, 100 and 101, one of which carries the gated signal and the other of which carries the rejected part. You can switch these by using the "flip" control on the plugin.

I wrote out the procedure for FL Studio just so it's clear that you have to get your hands dirty with virtual cabling!
