Brush up on your one-liners because it is time for Broforce!
Broforce is a hilarious run-n-gun retro style shooter by South African developer Free Lives. It's a game where you 'liberate' Vietnam from evil by taking control of a host of characters from classic and contemporary action films. Think Rambo, Commando, Terminator, Time Cop and Alien. Each character brings their own weapons and abilities to the fray. While they don't differ much (each as a primary weapons, a secondary weapon and a knife). The difference comes in the patterns and speed. Rambo has a machine gun and grenades, while Terminator brings his minigun and ability to sustain unlimited damage. Even more off the wall are chracters like Neo and Conan who rely on brutal melee attacks.
The gameplay itself is extremely fast paced. The ground around can be destroyed at will and will be destroyed, often forcing you to rethink you approach as your airstrike just blew up your foothold. This is the chaos where Broforce is at its best. The moments where you're scrambling up crumbling mountains, slaying hundreds of mooks on your way. When you finally reach the top, you'll slap five and call awesome.
But, it gets better. You can bring up to three friends and the chaos just became a million times worse. Suddenly you have to be carefull not kill your own bud, while at the same time murdering the evil insurgents. Yes, or you can actively seek to murder your friends.
Free Lives is still working on the game and they're releasing updates quite frequently; adding new characters and stages for you to unlock. While it might not last very long, it is a treat to come back to each time with friends if you have 30 minutes to kill. One piece of advice though: Play Austrian Death Machine in the background to get the right mood going.
