Generally when a game heavily references the eighties, it comes off as obnoxious and pandering; a way to manufacture personality without actually possessing any. Bro Force skirts by this trap effortlessly with an abundance of bombast and the same cavalier attitude of the films it emulates cranked up way past eleven. Everything in Bro Force is too much, too big, and above all, too much fun.

What Bro Force nails right off the bat is the presentation, with chunky faccimilies of action stars from decades past jump, shoot, and glide across the screen with ease. Explosions pop and dazzle. enemies explode into fountains of gore, and environments crumble under your bro-tastic fire-power. The whole thing glistens with a mirror shine and all the chaos runs smoothly.

The action runs at a smooth clip with easy, customizble controls that allow players to focus on the carnage and die hundreds of times to the games unforgiving difficulty, since players must contend with a one-hit-death system that introduces players to one of Bro Force's most unique mechanic; switching bros. Upon death, the player will be randomly cycled to the next muscular steroid monster, one with a completely new weapon, super move, and melee attack. This mechanic, while leading to some insane senarios, encompasses one of Bro Forces's biggest problems.

Not all bros are created equal. While one can get by with most bros and completely dominate with others, some bros completely fall by the wayside with piddly damage output, iffy weapons, or both.

Level design is too a mixed bag; since all levels are destructable and therefor molded by character and enemy interaction, a bevvy of interesting scenarios are bred, creating stealth sections and clever environmental puzzles that add variety. The downside is that levels lack a level of personality, making them interchangeable, for the most part. Add on top of that the insane possibility of destroying the platforms one might need to climb to an objective just compounds the need for better level design. But hey, if you don't like the levels provided in the campaign, theres a fully fleshed-out level editor with hundred of user-made levels waiting in the wings.

Overall, Bro Force succeeds in crafting a big, dumb, action game that is well-worthy of a full-price purchase. It has boat-loads of dumb humor and a pretty kick-♥♥♥ soundtrack. Everything's here for a worthwhile experience to play alone, or with a couple of bros.
