About This Game

Out of the Park Baseball 15 is the 2014 version of the award-winning baseball game that GameSpot called "the best baseball management sim out there".[/b] OOTP offers unparalleled flexibility in creating your own baseball world and guiding your favorite baseball franchise to glory. Play solo with a baseball world of your own creation: play a typical major league game with real 2014 rosters including full minor leagues, make a simple, 8-team league, create a historical league with real players from any year between 1871 and 2013 or build an enormous world with baseball leagues in multiple countries. For the ultimate challenge, join an online league and test your mettle against other human players!

Out of the Park Baseball is the closest most people can get to being the general manager of a real baseball team. Handle GM tasks like drafts, trades, scouting, waivers, team finances and personnel. Negotiate player contracts. Or, dive into the more hands-on management and set your team's lineups, pitching staffs, and in-game strategy. You can oversee your league at a high level, or play out each game, managing pitch by pitch and making all the calls from the dugout.

Players in OOTP are rated across multiple skills, and include individual personalities and custom faces created with FaceGen technology. OOTP players progress realistically over time. Try to build a team through the draft, or try to sign big free agents to put you over the top! OOTP also has a powerful news engine that generates personal messages and news articles. Behind all of this is an incredibly powerful statistical engine that tracks an enormous number of statistics for each player in your world. Want to know how your star hitter is doing against righties with runners in scoring position? No problem!

New Features in Out of the Park Baseball 15:
  • 2014 Opening Day major leagues roster set, plus seven international leagues with real roster sets (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Cuba, Italy, The Netherlands)
  • 3D ballpark and 3D ball flight support
  • A brand new interface introducing many new screens and a completely recoded manager home screen
  • New (optional) player rating system, examine how your players compare to league average

I'm a big baseball fan. I've been playing baseball video games since the early 80s Atari versions. I am also a big stats follower. One of my favorite games ever was Micro League Baseball on the Commodore 64. My friends and I would sit around and play season after season of it in the winter. All that said, I've been hard pressed to get into any baseball simulators recently. I've tried the other ones that are out there and they just collected dust.

Then the other day I was browsing around the Steam store and saw this. I saw the glowing reviews it's been getting. I figured for $20, why not try it. I am so happy I did.

This game is so deep and detailed. I started off just managing games. Then my #5 starter got hurt and I had to pull off a trade to get someone decent. And so I was sucked in. Now I find myself researching prospects, dumping salary, watching the waiver wire, and trying to land the very best coaches for my organization. I have been gradually taking over more and more of the management of the organization, but this game is so detailed I doubt I will ever do it all.

I only have a few hours invested so far, but I am very pleased. I like to play every game, and the gameplay is a lot like Micro League Baseball was, but without the animation in the game itself. Hopefully in the future they can add animated games, where you see the runners run the bases, the balls actually caught, etc. But where it might fall short in the animation dept., it more than makes up for it in the depth and management, which is what it was built for anyway.

There are some minor quirks, like not being able to pinch hit after the CPU makes a pitching change. But overall this is a phenomenal sim. Hats off to the devs. I'll be keeping a watchful eye on the reviews for OOTP 16, due out soon.

Nicely done and immersive.

After simulating (play-by-play) the first year in the Venezuelan Summer League (70 hours), I just saw and used 25% of the game -

Baseball, stats and managing are all very well simulated and the game will never feel boring as the results and situations are always more than different making you feel part of a real baseball universe -

Lets see how the game will perform taking into account the passing of years (on the long run) -

Im a casual baseball fan so I was not sure if I would grasp all the nuances and endless lists of stats. On top of that, a concern I had was that having played many years of manager games (not baseball) I always felt that the games and records I ended up with were all by chance. That being said, this game is a solid, solid representation of baseball and perfect for hardcore baseball fans or just casual fans like myself. There are so many options that can either dumb down the game or smarten it up. This game is so detailed that those hardcore fans will be able to immerse themselves in all then depths of baseball intricacies and still have a great time. my only complaint - and im thinking this may be a fluke - is injuries. my players suffer from a ridiculous amount of injuries. At one point every single RF i had, including minor league players, was injured. Then the same thing happened to my 1B. ive still managed a good record in spite of this, but dealing with the injuries has been kinda frustrating.
