Out of the Park Baseball 15 is the 2014 version of the award-winning baseball game that GameSpot called "the best baseball management sim out there".[/b] OOTP offers unparalleled flexibility in creating your own baseball world and guiding your favorite baseball franchise to glory. Play solo with a baseball world of your own creation: play a typical major league game with real 2014 rosters including full minor leagues, make a simple, 8-team league, create a historical league with real players from any year between 1871 and 2013 or build an enormous world with baseball leagues in multiple countries. For the ultimate challenge, join an online league and test your mettle against other human players!

Out of the Park Baseball is the closest most people can get to being the general manager of a real baseball team. Handle GM tasks like drafts, trades, scouting, waivers, team finances and personnel. Negotiate player contracts. Or, dive into the more hands-on management and set your team's lineups, pitching staffs, and in-game strategy. You can oversee your league at a high level, or play out each game, managing pitch by pitch and making all the calls from the dugout.

Players in OOTP are rated across multiple skills, and include individual personalities and custom faces created with FaceGen technology. OOTP players progress realistically over time. Try to build a team through the draft, or try to sign big free agents to put you over the top! OOTP also has a powerful news engine that generates personal messages and news articles. Behind all of this is an incredibly powerful statistical engine that tracks an enormous number of statistics for each player in your world. Want to know how your star hitter is doing against righties with runners in scoring position? No problem!

These best baseball simulator on PC hands down. If you like franchise mode/GM mode in other baseball games (2k/The Show), you will love this game. From sabermetics to full front office control to international teams/minor league/rule5draft/arbitartion and more, there is so much depth and customization that I am still learning new stuff about the game after 200 hrs.

In the year 2029 of my league. The commissioner decided to expand the league by 2 teams, the Jacksonville Airhogs and Austin Thunderbolts. I wasn't even aware this was possible, but is so cool and adds a new dynamic to the game. They had to hold and expansion draft and I had to put some players on a protection list. The 2 new teams could draft any player in the league not on a protection list.

Little changes like that can happen every couple of years like a few years earlier they removed the DH for the American League which is really awesome becuase it keeps the league fresh and interesting.

If you love baseball and always wanted to be a manager or general manager of any baseball team than this is the game you have always been looking for.

I'm a big baseball fan. I've been playing baseball video games since the early 80s Atari versions. I am also a big stats follower. One of my favorite games ever was Micro League Baseball on the Commodore 64. My friends and I would sit around and play season after season of it in the winter. All that said, I've been hard pressed to get into any baseball simulators recently. I've tried the other ones that are out there and they just collected dust.

Then the other day I was browsing around the Steam store and saw this. I saw the glowing reviews it's been getting. I figured for $20, why not try it. I am so happy I did.

This game is so deep and detailed. I started off just managing games. Then my #5 starter got hurt and I had to pull off a trade to get someone decent. And so I was sucked in. Now I find myself researching prospects, dumping salary, watching the waiver wire, and trying to land the very best coaches for my organization. I have been gradually taking over more and more of the management of the organization, but this game is so detailed I doubt I will ever do it all.

I only have a few hours invested so far, but I am very pleased. I like to play every game, and the gameplay is a lot like Micro League Baseball was, but without the animation in the game itself. Hopefully in the future they can add animated games, where you see the runners run the bases, the balls actually caught, etc. But where it might fall short in the animation dept., it more than makes up for it in the depth and management, which is what it was built for anyway.

There are some minor quirks, like not being able to pinch hit after the CPU makes a pitching change. But overall this is a phenomenal sim. Hats off to the devs. I'll be keeping a watchful eye on the reviews for OOTP 16, due out soon.

OOTP Baseball is - at it's core - a very deep simulation title. If you love incredibly deep simulations, then this is the game for you. If you don't like hardcore simulations, you won't like it.

Now, if you like Baseball AND you like simulations ... well, you're going to think you died and went to heaven. Honestly, I can't think of a simulation that is more true to the subject matter than OOTP Baseball. When you're stressing out about what Pitching coach to hire for you rookie league (as I was when I started), you know it's a deep simulation.

If you like a great 'arcade' experience, this game is not for you. This game is about running a team the way you want to run it. You want to do a historical league with real players -- you can do that. I prefer a totally fictional league so that I'm not burdened with allegiances towards any teams or players.

All things considered, this game is engrossing ... it's immersive .... it's the best baseball game I've ever played -- and I've tried them all.

I played Strat and PTP when it was hundreds of cards with dice and also when both were adapted to be played on the PC and other various generic baseball games or those designed to recreate a season but NONE COME CLOSE TO OOTP!

This will be the third straight year I have purchased and played this game after my brother turned me on to it four years ago. Since then I have absolutely loved this game. No matter what level you want to play at: owner, field manager or GM this game will give you an experience that no other game designed to be played at an organizational level can give you. Certainly far better than any simular game I have ever seen or played...

The user interphase is very user friendly and the flexibility this game affords you makes it impossible to get bored playing it. You can recreate a season or play an entire era over and there is always a new challenge or twist to make your blood pressure rise or make you cheer out loud.

*****It's like a never ending fantasy baseball fix*****

Do you like baseball? Do you think you can really run a team better than your favorite teams Owner/GM/Manager? Go ahead and take that challenge on, to any degree of difficulty that suits you.

Just want to fiddle with in-game strategies and lineups? You can do JUST that, if that's all you want to do. Want to meddle with roster construction (trades, Free Agnet signings, promotion/demotions)? You can do that too. Want to control EVERYTHING? Yeah, you can do that too. Tired of modern day baseball players? Play with any players, from any season you can think of. Tired of real-life baseball players altogether? You can create an entire universe of fictional players (and even teams, if you so desire) to have your fun in.

It is an entirely customizable baseball experience that you really cannot afford to miss.

I'm barely a casual baseball fan but this sim still hooked me good. I bought it a week ago and have done nothing else since. It's ridiculous how compelling it is. Not only that, it's realistic enough that I've learned quite a bit about baseball I didn't know before, like what runs created are and what WAR means, and what the rule 5 draft is. To me this is the most important asset of a good simulation -- it teaches you something about the real world.

* For an indie game it has a fantastic interface. The "graphics" maybe are nonexistant, but the interface is beautiful and usable. It reminds me a little bit of Endless Legend in this regard.

* Despite having no graphics, the text-based play-by-play during a game you witness is spot-on, and apparently limitless in its variety. After watching 60 or so games I am still surprised by what it comes up with. It manages to capture the exact atmosphere of listening to a ballgame on the radio.

* The online manual is well-organized and for the most part answers what you wanted answered. Between this, the organization of the interface, and the intelligent and compassionate community, the learning curve isn't nearly as awful as I feared. You can automate as much of the complexity of the game as you want, in very fine gradients, similar to how Distant Worlds' AI options work.

It took me a while to dare to buy this game but I'm really glad I did.

My favorite baseball sim. Very customizable. Make your world as detailed and big or as small as you want. There is probably more baseball sim in here than most people will ever need, but you can't argue that the developers are small thinkers. OOTP has been the best baseball sim on the market for years. No baseball sim is perfect, but this one is clearly best where it matters.

Hello.
I think this game is great. It has a great concept in the way that you can be commissioner, GM, or manager. You guys did a great job with that. Also, I think that the way you created all the old rosters from all the different era's is great. The game is fun and easy to navigate around, even with all the different options. I do understand though the whole feel to being the owner or GM but, I think it would be better if you could play the games. Not just sit and watch play-by-play. Overall, I think it is a very well thought out and a great game.

Im a casual baseball fan so I was not sure if I would grasp all the nuances and endless lists of stats. On top of that, a concern I had was that having played many years of manager games (not baseball) I always felt that the games and records I ended up with were all by chance. That being said, this game is a solid, solid representation of baseball and perfect for hardcore baseball fans or just casual fans like myself. There are so many options that can either dumb down the game or smarten it up. This game is so detailed that those hardcore fans will be able to immerse themselves in all then depths of baseball intricacies and still have a great time. my only complaint - and im thinking this may be a fluke - is injuries. my players suffer from a ridiculous amount of injuries. At one point every single RF i had, including minor league players, was injured. Then the same thing happened to my 1B. ive still managed a good record in spite of this, but dealing with the injuries has been kinda frustrating.

Nicely done and immersive.

After simulating (play-by-play) the first year in the Venezuelan Summer League (70 hours), I just saw and used 25% of the game -

Baseball, stats and managing are all very well simulated and the game will never feel boring as the results and situations are always more than different making you feel part of a real baseball universe -

Lets see how the game will perform taking into account the passing of years (on the long run) -

This is a fantastic game for anyone who is a fan of baseball and really wants to experience team management and strategy.

Keep in mind that the interface is a bit clunky (though much improved over previous versions) and this is NOT an arcadey baseball game. At no point are you swinging the bat or playing the role of the player - at best, you are choosing pitch by pitch strategies and letting fate decide.

If you love baseball and want to play out hypothetical historical seasons, or in my mind more fun, create fantasy leagues and simulate the results, this is the game for you. The AI is not ideal but competent enough to make the game challenging (especially for beginnings), with plenty of meticulously kept stats and records for your world building pleasure.

10/10, best PC baseball game by far.

OOTPB15 is spectacular. I never thought I could be this entertained by what is essentially a spreadsheet simulator; I mean that phrase with no negative connotation. I grew up playing franchise mode in Madden Football and dynasty mode in MVP Baseball, and I always thought the actual controlling of the players during the game was secondary to the real fun-- the management. If you were similar, then you'll love OOTPB.

I played the heck out of OOTPB14 and transferred my 50 year league into OOTPB15 without issue. One minor problem happened later on with the save file, but it resolved itself. Additionally, the developers were quick to offer support, which I appreciated but ultimately didn't need.

My experience thus far is limited to single player. The multiplayer sounds awesome, but single player has been more than enough to keep me occupied for 250+ hours (OOTPB14 playing time included).

Pros:
  • Extremely decent user interface
  • Deep baseball business detail
  • Deep game management detail
  • Smart player progression and aging
  • Pretty good rookie player generation
  • Fairly good GM and manager AI
  • Players are mostly aware of their monetary value
  • Huge database of historical players/ seasons
  • Detailed game simulation engine

Cons:
  • Injuries are ludicrous
  • Not sure the simulation engine is optimized
  • No financial inflation or growth
  • Team ballparks are not true to real life
  • Lopsided game scores

To elaborate on some of the things I've listed as cons...

The injury system is a bit insane. Sure, you can turn injury frequency to off, low, normal, high (realistic), and very high, but I'd feel like a noob if I didn't have it on at least normal. But on the normal level, I have had, on MULTIPLE occasions, six or more batters from the starting lineup injured, two or three starting pitchers out with Tommy John surgery (or a broken finger or some crap), and a couple relievers out as well. So then, a word of warning: make sure you hire a great team trainer, and when signing players, be sure to place a lot of weight on their injury history. I had been careless about it, but one time I actually had all 9 starting batters out of the lineup on long term injuries. Be careful. I list it as a con because the AI managers have no regard for these things, as far as I can tell. The guy with the wrecked injury history? Play him 162 games until he literally suffers a career ending injury in pre-game warm-ups (I had that happen once).

The simulation engine doesn't seem lightning fast. I know there's a lot going on in the game world, but I've got some decent hardware and I feel like it should be faster. The game seems to put most of its load on one core of my i7, but doesn't even max it out. I wonder if it needs to fetch and write a lot of data on the hard drive during the sim, and maybe that slows it down; I'd be interested to hear from someone who plays this with an SSD. Maybe the sim is intentionally slow for suspense reasons. I really don't know.

As far as finances go, the top contracts are always around $22mil, give or take. And my budget has been in the same ballpark (heheh) for all 50 or so years of my fictional league. Anyways, that's really nitpicky. However I don't structure contracts to weigh the money on the back end since I'm not expecting any growth. Even salary throughout.

I understand that OOTP can't use logos or stadium names, but for all the effort they put into detail for this game, you'd think they would have accurate sim modifiers for each stadium. The coefficient for HRs at Orioles' ballpark is like .96 or something, whereas in reality, Oriole Park at Camden Yards is a great place to hit homeruns. You can change these stats manually, but eh. I only care enough about it to complain, not to fix it.

And the last thing I can think of is the scoring in the sim engine. There are 15 run blowouts on a regular basis. The sim engine doesn't seem to have a concept that a team would let up once they have a 5 or 6 run lead.

But overall, absolutely brilliant game. If you like baseball and know a fair amount about stats, this is a great game for you.
