Om dette spil

How long has it been? A man sits in a distant getaway cabin waiting for his wife Serena. Where is she? Things in the cabin evoke memories, and the husband comes to a disturbing realization...

This short point-and-click adventure is the result of a massive collaborative effort between dozens of fans and designers of adventure games. Rallying to support the venerable genre and its passionate community, these developers have brought together a grim and highly detailed horror story in what is the largest, possibly even the first, game project of its kind. Talents include crew from renowned indie companies Senscape, CBE Software, Infamous Quests, Digital Media Workshop, Guys from Andromeda, and many more.

Features

  • A (twisted) love letter to the adventure game community
  • Over 40 contributors provided their wit and talents
  • Extremely depressive mood, and a bit of fear here and there
  • A haunting story that will challenge your intellect (and temerity)
  • Amazing voice acting by legendary adventure game designer Josh Mandel
  • More awesome acting by popular video producer Pushing Up Roses
  • Yet another overwhelmingly astonishing surprise cameo by an ex-designer from Sierra!
  • Did we mention the gut-wrenching atmosphere?

I'm impressed. The way you move through the game is very interesting and the storyline is right up my alley.

There is no save point (unless I missed something). The story is severely lacking, and this is not a psychological horror game like I thought it was.

This game deserves to be paid. The graphics is great, music is AWESOME, the voice acting is great and so is the script, the gameplay needs more improvement but it's playable.
So I guess the story is a bit cliche but I was in a shock when it took a turn anyway because the script and acting are that awesome. It's of great quality.
The ending needs more polish though, it feels quite unfinished, part of the reason might be I got stuck, can't save game (why on earth no gamesave) and restart everything (which is pretty quick following the flowchart). The ending is partly expected, but the "surprise" part is really confusing.
Still, as story and atmosphere goes 5/5 recommend.

Like a short story in visuals, Serena shows what can be done with games

A short psychological horror game, Serena takes place in one location and there are only a few items to interact with: this is not a game where you collect scotchtape and a cat to make a fake moustache. Instead, Serena explores the thoughts of an unnamed protagonist as he is thinking about his life with his wife Serena.

The game is short but can still become frustrating, as it isn't immediately clear what causes the story to progress. Once you figure out the rules of the game though, which for me came after maybe half an hour of exploring, the story goes to its ending quickly.

As a free game with good production values and a really interesting story, Serena earns a recommendation without question.
But the main takeaway from this game I have is that I would like to see a longer, fully realized game by the people behind this.

A psychological horror point&click game, Serena is actually one of those free indie games that are much better than you would expect them to be. The game is short, but it took a very smooth approach at storytelling, has nice graphics and quality of sound, and mainly - the wonderful atmosphere, one of the key points of which - the steady narration of the story. It would be nice to see this game growing into something bigger, extending the story and gameplay into a full-scale game. There are a few downturns (listed them lower), but the game isn't long enough for them to be significant. And yes, this is an absolute recommendation. Enjoy the game.

+ Good story
+ Good sound
+ Excellent artwork
+ Excellent narration
+ Atmosphere of a well-written book

- Sometimes can be a little confusing in terms of progressing.
- The game is a little buggy and it crushed for me a few times.
- Doesn't have the save option, so if you quit, you should start it all over again (but it is fairly short).

If you like story driven games then this is for you!
It is a nice little game which takes only about one hour of your life time, and it is worth the time.
it is a sad dark story that takes place in a cabin somewhere far from everything else.

Serena is a darkly disturbing, emotionally wrenching, severely affecting short little gem. It takes less than an hour to play through. After having played two or three times already, it's a game that is short in duration but stays long in memory. I very much enjoyed playing this game and look forward to playing more games by each of the contributing designers.

It is important to tell upfront that this is not a game in the common sense of the word, there is no real gameplay here. This is an interactive story, so people not interested in that can walk along.

The whole game takes place in a cabin lost in the woods, where you unfold the plot by exploring objects and opening furniture. The main character is deftly voiced, his emotions are convincingly genuine. There is no jump scares, loud sounds, and so on, the fear comes from the well crafted story and presentation. The game world might be small, but each items hold lots of memories, and as the plot advances, you see them in completely different lights.

The length of the game is perfect (roughly 1h30) for what it aims to achieve, and the pace consistantly ramps up in tension. The writing is descriptive, metaphoric and subjective. The emotional side is highly nuanced, and despite the length, you will feel conflicted several times concerning the characters and the situation it presents.

In short: a free game with the quality content you expect from a commercial product. Be aware this is a condensed experience focused solely on storytelling.

This is a game for people who enjoy exploring.
You play a man, alone in his cabin. He does remember that he used to live there with his wife, but apart from that, his memories are curiosly elusive. As you examine his posessions, slowly his memories of his wife and the life they shared start to come back.
I very much enjoyed this little game.
The gameplay mechanics are very simple: you walk around the single room of the cabin and examine everything you see.
There are usually multiple things he will remember for every single item, and the thoughts they will trigger in him also change over time, as do the parts of his past he focuses on.
While the story is not particularly original, I really liked the main character's writing and felt it easy to connect to him.
The ending also left me thinking, in a good way.

Serena was a dark and creepy expierience for me.
No, it's not a bad game, but it hits you HARD at feels. I'm sure I won't forget what I've seen very easily. Even though I wish I would.
Just... just try it out if you want a strong story. But be warned, it's not going to leave you with pretty memories.
Good example of what a 1-hour long game can do to you.

Pros: +immersive at its best - maybe too immersive;
+ amazing storyline and plot twist;
+ did I mention the plot twist?

Neutral: +/- depends if you like this in a game, it is probable that you will not forget this game very soon. You may relate to its story in your life and you will remember this game;

Cons: - no replayability; most people uninstall right after finishing;

Personal rating: 85/100 - Great

I don't know what this is, or why it's free, but I really enjoy playing it for some reason. It's short and simple, but somehow beautiful piece of work. It has a certain warmth but it's still sad and miserable in its own way.10/10. Recommended if you're bored and looking for something quiet.

A must-have for the lovers of the genre.

Think of Serena as an interactive story: you need to click on things to collect info and piece after piece, in order to understand what's going on. If you enjoy reading and investigating, just download it. Otherwise, don't.

For the ones interested, this is what is going to happen: Serena will take about one hour of your time and you'll probably leave the finished game thinking: "Well? Is this all? It's obvious that things went THAT way..."

Then, you'll go back to your life.

Later on, you will remember one small detail and think: "But if things went THAT way, how should I explain this?"
Another detail will haunt you. And another one will follow.

At this point, you'll realize there was much more depth in this free yet precious gem than what you first assumed, so you'll feel compelled to start all over and try to make ALL the pieces fit together.

At least, this is exactly what happened to me.

Serena is a wonderful gift to the community and I really recommend downloading it.
