KAMI is an attractive well-presented and simple puzzle game. To solve each level you must select areas to fill continuously with a colour (like the paint bucket in MS paint), doing this a number of times to have the entire screen one colour to complete the level.

Highly original and learning curve is not steep. Some later levels are very difficult however.

It doesn't take too long to make your way through a majority of the levels, so game-length is perhaps shorter than most similar puzzle games. Some have compared it to LYNE which seemingly has no end.

Overall, recommended because it's a unique and refreshing take on the puzzle genre, well-presented and colourful.

This game is awesome!
It was long time my most wanted Indie puzzle game and now I have it.
It's just so simple: fill the whole pattern into one color. Additional these Japanese music and the origami animation. Great! If the devs have fixed the Steam Overlay UI and the Screenshot issues and add some achievements I rather would playing it to the end.

English (Polska wersja niżej)
Kami is a relaxation puzzler (as opposed to ‘I will grind your brains into the dust and make you weep under the table’ puzzle games) ported from the mobile devices (without much harm done to the experience as it sometimes happens to mobile-to-pc games). The player is given a palette of 3-5 colors and is required to ‘paint’ the areas on the screen, so that they all should have the same color in a limited number of moves.

I was able to complete the ‘standard’ puzzles in exactly two hours. There are 5 ‘seasons’, each of 9 riddles, which gives an average time of 2 mins per puzzle – that means they are rather on the easy-to-plain-effortless side . There is also a hint system available, but as far as the ‘standard’ puzzles are concerned, it is not really needed that much.

The visuals of Kami are the very definition of ‘oddly satisfying’. Watching how screen fills with one particular color and listening only to the sound of paper folding is a pleasant and calming experience. This is probably the game’s greatest asset: it is a perfect choice for unwinding after a tiresome day, and as far as I am concerned, it’s enough to make me return to the ‘premium’ puzzles (although, keep in mind that the 2nd ‘season’ –out of 3- of ‘premiums’ deals with black and white patterns rather than colors, which makes it EXTREMELY difficult to discern) and wait for the sequel.

PL

Edit: I have now played Kami for a substantial period of time, and my esteem for it has only grown.

You should probably spend more than ten minutes on a game before you recommend it, or write a review, but I never do what I should probably do, and I'm not planning on changing that just now.

Anyhow... the game is a basic math-based puzzler, albeit a spatial form-based game as opposed to numeric form-based endeavor, all the same - if you like thinking, this game is fun. And if you are not sharp, it is likely fun, too, it just may take a bit longer to progress, but the game design allows for revision, so it ultimately teaches everyone up to the same level. I love it - as a mathlete, and as a fan of creative gaming.

Best endorsement I can say: I bought two more copies of the game within ten minutes of playing it, to be gifted to my girl and my brother. As a purchase decision, it is that easily a no-brainer, despite the cerebral content within. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Great puzzle game! Really chalenging, though; of course that is not a bad thing when you like to think and try different solutions for a problem. The colors and music are esplendorous, and complement the unusual (but extremely fun) mecanics of the game. As a casual gamer, that is starting now to pay atention to this vast universe, Kami was an excellent aquisition.

An aesthetically beautiful and refreshing puzzle game that I found to be very challenging, but at the same time very relaxing due to the soothing sound and the simplicity of the visuals. The puzzle mechanics themselves are also quite refreshing and fun to play with, especially once I got used to them and could sometimes perfect new puzzles pretty quickly.

It's a very rewarding game and one that's almost impossible for me to get frustrated with, because of how beautiful and calming it is. As the description of the game says, I did find myself in deep contemplation several times, but there was very little to no stress for me, since there is no timer and you don't have to perfect everything to move on (even though I personally did want to perfect everything, being a perfectionist).

Admittedly I haven't played too much of this game before writing this review, having only completed the A and B stages of the game so far (18 puzzles), but I think I got enough of a taste of this beautifully crafted game to recommend it to pretty much anyone. It's a joy to play.

Kami is serene yet engaging. It combines a beautiful esthetic with simple efficacy puzzles to a very satisfying effect. The puzzles are easy to complete, but they present a challenge by encouraging you to use the fewest moves possible. I find myself doing the same puzzles multiple times because I am determined to find that perfect move set.

The visual style of Kami is simple and elegant. Using a combination of complementary colors, you strive to turn your puzzle into the singular hue of your choosing. With each click, squares of folded construction paper flow out from the selected location, slowly turning the puzzle into a satisfying uniformity of color. The game does not restrict you to any specific move limits, and instead will continue to be playable well beyond the recommend move goal. This freedom allows you to simply play with the colors; folding and shaping your paper until your heart’s content.

Kami's music is a beautiful rendition in a traditional Japanese style. The game gives you the option to play the music during the puzzles or you can leave the music off and solve the puzzles in near silence. Aside from the music, the only sound during the puzzle is that of folding paper which accompanies each of your moves. This makes for a mesmerizingly tactile experience.

The simple design, beautiful colors, and comforting sounds add together to make an elegant and relaxing experience that calls to me at the end of a stressful day. For the measly price this game requests it would be a shame not to experience this little slice of peace and beauty.

Calm, relaxing, yet challenging, and of course, puzzling. Only downsides are lack of more options (would like some specific audio control) but its a minor detail. Cheap, very much worth the price.

Finished after 6 hours. Had to use the in-game hint-system for a 'perfect' score in later levels. Simple yet challenging puzzle game, easy at first, difficult in the end (especially with the newly added 'premium levels'). The music (traditional japanese track) is quite nice and the whole game feels pretty relaxing. Overall, it's a nicely designed game, worth playing and buying - if it doesn't cost too much! In the end, you won't touch it again after solving every level, b/c there is nothing else to do (no achievements, no bonus content, maybe they'll add some levels again later, but don't count on it). Anway, recommended for people, who like this kind of stuff.

PRO:

+nice puzzles, good difficulty curve (new premium levels pretty hard)
+nice and simple design (graphics, music, soundeffects)
+relaxing

CON:
-could use more levels and different color/style sets (like that one set in premium level)
-nothing to do after solving every level, not much playtime in general

Very polished puzzle game, relaxing aesthetics. It doesn't have colorblind options, though, and it's a very color-centric game. It has a hint system, but you can only use so many hints per day (though it doesn't try to microtransaction you at all; you just have a maximum number of hints you can get).

The puzzles themselves require the player to pay attention to spatial relationships and be able to visualize successive game states. How will the board look if I do this? Its solutions are flexible, but perfect solutions tend to require taking a single path.

It's a fun puzzle game, easy enough that it can be quickly picked up, but difficult enough that it has puzzles that require thought and planning. In addition, the graphics and sound are nice and there's a respectable number of puzzles (there are some puzzles that look similar, but their solutions are very different). All in all, a very good game that is more than worth $4.
