Great fun. Figure out the best route for a small level and practice executing it until you have mastered it to your liking. There's a lot of interesting and fun design in the levels and bosses. Plus, you get to ruin robot hitler's birthday.

I really wanted to like this game. I love difficult platformers like Super Meat Boy, N+ and Electronic Super Joy so I figured adding in a 10 second time limit would make it interesting. Unfortunately, poorly designed levels and a lack of purposeful progression holds the game back. While most of the other games start out with a steady increase in difficulty while using clevel level design to teach and refine certain game mechanics, this one just tosses you into the fray with little structure. Typically I would run through a game and not get A+ type scores/times, but would complete them to learn the game and get some practice time, while here, you're shoehorned into rehashing the same levels for high scores (not just completion) before you can unlock the next tier. It's just tedious for the sake of being tedious and I can't see any real purpose. If you're the type of person that likes hard platformers and doesn't mind a grind on single level before moving to the next, then you'd like this, but if you're a more gradual gamer that goes back for polish, then this one isn't for you.

Incredibly fun, fast paced game perfect for completionists, as well as those looking for a difficult race against the clock. Most of this game is not in completing the levels, but instead in perfecting them to achieve the fastest time possible.

The game is very short, but has replayability in the form of some 'bonus levels' after game completion.
If you're not worried about 3-starring every single level you're probably looking at 2 hours of gameplay, including cutscenes.

Having said that, it's definitely 2 hours of good fun.
Killing the robots and 3-starring a level feels nicely satisfying and is complimented by
sleek simplistic graphics and a fun short story presented in little animations inbetween worlds.

The game introduces few new mechanics along the way, but just enough to keep me interested.
The progression curve could've been a lot better. Especially the final world seemed to be much easier then some of the previous levels.

Although I've only ran into a couple minor issues with the game (had to restart the game once), I've seen many people with unresolved bugs in the discussions. It's definitely something to note.

PROS:

+ Pleasing simplistic graphics
+ Controller support
+ Quick satisfying gameplay
+ Fun story

CONS:

- Very short
- Unfixed Bugs
- Flawed progression Curve
- Probably overpriced

I'd recommend picking it up during a sale or in a bundle; I don't think it's worth full price.

RIP Mastertronic. In November of 2015, the stalwart game publisher entered administration. As of 7 months later, it remains to be seen whether they will resurface.

I actually used to have a somewhat negative impression of the publisher at first, due to what I perceived were their misses (The Chaos Engine and Speedball 2 HD come to mind). But as time passed, I gradually grew to really appreciate their catalogue, and they had published a few impressive games mere months before they went into administration. From the outside, who would have thought that would happen, coming 7 months after The Weaponographist, 2 after Tango Fiesta and 1 after Sublevel Zero?

But enough of that, into the review proper. 10 Second Ninja, compared to the other Mastertronic titles mentioned above, is one of the relatively older games from the publisher released on Steam. Good news if you take game titles at face value - this one is exactly what it says. You're a ninja (check) who has to complete levels and kill Nazi (wait, what? I'll explain later) robots...within 10 seconds (check).

The controls felt very satisfying and easy to learn. I did often get confused though whenever I had to use the shurikens or sword slash for some reason - probably bad muscle memory. I'd often use the other attack instead of what I intended to use. No biggie.

Each level must be completed in a maximum of 10 seconds, and with there being 40 levels, that means you can theoretically breeze through the whole game in about 7 minutes. However, you'll normally find yourself taking longer than that. This is because some levels are gated by the number of stars you have earned from completing the levels. You'll thus end up spending the bulk of your time on replaying these levels - failing repeatedly multiple times as you attempt to shave milliseconds off your best records just to get 3 stars on each level.

While the joy and exhilaration from finally 3-starring the levels does make up for the flaws I've observed, that is not to say they aren't noticeable, however.

The aforementioned Nazi robots can be seen as a rather offensive joke by some people (though I personally have no problems and find the cutscenes featuring Robot Hitler rather hilarious) - turning on the censor filter will remove the symbols, but also removes the cutscenes as well.

As mentioned earlier, the maximum time restriction imposed on each level ultimately makes this a rather fast game to complete - too fast, maybe. The implication is that this might be a bad game to pick up if you are concerned about the cost to time-spent ratio. In fairness though, I got this game from a bundle in January 2015 (and ended up playing it 1 and a half years later!) so that definitely took the sting out of my wallet slightly.

And lastly, a few bugs are still apparent with no hope of them being resolved - sometimes my ninja runs to the side without me pressing (this usually happens after I restart while I'm moving though I'm not sure of the specifics), and sometimes after I get a new record it lags for no apparent reason. When it lags, it lags really bad, and even upon restarting the game it persists. It does go away after a while though I have no idea how to consistently remove the lag.

Still, for a game that is the very embodiment of the joy of pure speedrunning, this is a really solid effort and will definitely appeal to platformer lovers looking to get some speedrunning in. Oh, and the soundtrack with its layered touch (a more barebones version in the menu compared to much more instrumentation in the levels) is really neat and groovy too.

And for added challenge, after three-starring all the levels you get a Hard mode where you speedrun the entire game in 4 minutes maximum for the ultimate challenge. Restarts and deaths will prove very costly.

When to buy
With the seeming lack of support for this title as the developers have already moved on to the sequel, get this only if it's on sale. Or, better yet, save your money and get the sequel instead. It contains remastered versions of the 40 levels in this game, thus rendering this almost obsolete - unless some relatively easy achievements are your thing.

Short levels, difficult platforming and a low timelimit.

Unfortunately the controls just aren't good enough to keep me playing. Especially since it gates content off via stars, so you have to on average 2 star every level to complete the game which is going to take more time than I want to spend on this game.

Thus far, I'm pretty impressed with this game; Ten Second Ninja is very simple, fast-paced, and easy to get into.
I don't have much to say about it because, frankly, there's not much to say- it's very fast and very fun- it's in the same vein as games like Super Hexagon and Super Meat Boy. In fact, this game should be renamed "Super Ten Second Ninja" in order to fit in with them. No? Alright, that's a stupid idea. I'll tell you what's not a stupid idea: playing this game.

If you enjoy fast-paced platformers, this one's for you.

Price: 7,99 € is a bit expensive for this game.
I would say it’s 4-5 € worth so I advise to watch out for a discount.

Conclusion:
The game requires speed, skill and a clear head. So if you have a slow reaction time it maybe just makes you freaking out. O: If you like games like „Super Hexagon“ or „Super Meat Boy“ this game is a must have for you!

Many games have attempted to capture the essence of pure speed as part of their appeal. It's powerful when applied correctly, so often being impossible to emulate in real life. You can't run like Sonic, your car doesn't go as fast as Captain Falcon's - and I'd be very surprised if you can move like the hero of 10 Second Ninja. He's a double jumping, sword slashing, shuriken throwing robot destruction machine. Madly dashing through short platforming puzzles, his ultimate goal is always the same: destroy the nazi robots as fast as possible. Half the game is sequencing and strategy, determining the most efficient uses of those precious second jumps and limited throwing stars. At first a level will seem straight forward - a combination of runs and leaps that take out everything in what you'll assume is a respectable time.Things can be confusing at first, for different reasons - but then you notice the time savers. The opportunities to take out two enemies with one move, skip jumps or maintain momentum. In later levels the addition of complications like falling rocks and portals change the equation. The slow consideration to start a level is a nice counter-point to the split-split-second reaction times needed to perform the plans you come up with. That's the other half. Thumb-mutilating skills coupled with reset after reset to shave milliseconds off times in pursuit of those required to unlock levels or climb the bragging rights only online leaderboard. The game controls wonderfully and the simplistic art uses precise frame stages to broadcast changes in status, vital for instant understanding. While it won't be for everyone, Ninja does exactly what it set out to, with style and humour to boot.

This is the single best game involving ninjas and robot nazis on Steam. 10/10(second ninjas)

10 Second Ninja is fast, fun, and flashy as heck. The levels are simple and short, but if you're anything like me you'll be spending hours attempting to minimize your time on every level and get that sweet spot on the leaderboards! Perfect for quick pick up and play sessions but also challenging and deep enough to practice for hours until you're confident enough to beat your friends (and maybe even the world)

Short, responsive, sweet and pricey. Just some keywords to describe 10 Second Ninja. You have 10 seconds to clear a level by defeating all of the enemies. You start with some simple platforms, but a few levels later the game will introduce something new. Falling pillars and portals to name a few. It requires speed, skill and a clear head. I think I would describe the game as a puzzle platformer, even if it's more action focused than you would think. There are 5 worlds to complete, and each world has about 8 levels I think. But I think it took me less than an hour to complete all 5 worlds (ok, ok, I didn't clear every level with 3 stars) so it's pretty damn short. But man, is it good. Normally I'd say that if you enjoy a game the price doesn't really matter. But it's hard to justify the price for this game just because it's so freaking short.
So, let it be for now and grab it when it's on sale, or at least costs €5 or less.
