Experimental East Coast Servers Coming Online

April 24th, 2014

Greetings pilots!

As many of you may know, we are in the process of testing a new hosting provider for HAWKEN game servers. On April 25, we will be adding more of these new servers to the game for testing. These will be East Coast servers located in New York, and you can try them out by selecting the “US East (Experimental)” region in game.

It's important that we get feedback from our players on how these new servers are performing. Once they are online, please provide the following information:

  • What’s your physical location? (City, State)

  • What’s your typical ping on US-East servers?

  • What was your ping on the US-East (Experimental) servers?

  • Did you notice anything different? (smoother/choppy, new bugs, better accuracy, etc.)

Also, we will be removing the EU (Experimental) region from the game in the near future and merging these servers into the UK region pool to attract more traffic. The servers themselves will be the same, they'll simply be added to our already existing UK region pool.

Thanks for your patience while we continue to improve the overall HAWKEN server quality, and we're looking forward to hearing your feedback on these new servers!

About the Game

HAWKEN is a multiplayer first person shooter for PC that places you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world called Illal. With strategic, fast-paced gameplay, HAWKEN features incredible alien landscapes, customizable and upgradable mechs, and dynamic experiences across multiple competitive game modes.

HAWKEN features 5 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Co-Op Bot Destruction, Missile Assault, Siege and Deathmatch. Each mode offers a unique gameplay experience that requires a different approach and hones a separate set of skills.

  • Team Deathmatch
Two teams of six group together and battle as a team in a race to 40 kills. Fighting as a group and knowing when to play defensively is essential to survival.

  • Co-Op Bot Destruction
Team up with three other pilots for 25 waves of increasingly intense encounters against computer controlled mechs and attack drones. Every fifth wave is led by one or more elite boss mechs that can’t be defeated alone. Move as a group, plan your attack, and spend your resources wisely to eek out a victory against all odds. Co-Op Bot Destruction is currently available on the Facility and Front Line maps, each featuring a unique set of enemies.

  • Missile Assault
Split your team of six into groups and compete over three missile silos spread across the map. Capture a silo and maintain control over it to launch missiles against the enemy team’s base ship. Control all three missile silos to do bonus damage and end the battle even sooner. Flexibility and effective use of items are the key to destroying the enemy base before they destroy yours.

  • Siege
Collect EU from two energy sources in neutral territory and return them to base to launch an attack ship at the enemy base. Fight for control over the Anti Aircraft battery in the center of the map to keep your ship from being shot down before it reaches and destroys the enemy base. There is no time limit in Siege, but every ship you launch is more powerful than the last.

  • Deathmatch
Watch your radar and be careful not to expose yourself until you have the advantage in an intense free-for-all battle. The player with the highest score after 10 minutes wins.

HAWKEN features a wide range of customization options that allow you to craft a unique look and equipment loadout that other players will remember.

  • Cosmetic
Strike fear in your enemies and confidence in your allies with unique trim colors & paint patterns, chassis parts, thrusters, and repair drones. Taunt defeated opponents and make your teammates laugh with comic mech emotes and deployable hologram generators.

  • Practical
Customize your play style and abilities with passive internals and deployable items. Internals take one to three of six available internal slots and range in effect from giving your mech a unique ability, such as dashing or doing a 180 spin in mid-air, to temporarily boosting damage or healing each time you gain a kill or assist. Items can serve as an additional weapon (e.g. EMPs, Grenades), a deployable piece of equipment that helps you and your teammates (e.g. Portable Scanner, Shield) or one that disrupts your enemies (e.g. Machine Gun or Rocket Turret, Radar Scrambler). Select a loadout that matches your play style to defeat your enemies quickly, support your team, or control tactically important areas of the map.

Game Guide

HAWKEN offers pilots numerous mechs in three different weight classes that fill a variety of distinct roles on the battlefield. Find the mechs that match your play style and study the strengths and weaknesses of enemy mechs in our comprehensive mech guide.

HAWKEN has numerous maps to explore. But you can’t always enjoy the scenery--or get your bearings--while boosting away from enemies. Our Map Guide includes interactive maps showing major points of interest for every game mode on every map, plus lore, screenshots, gameplay tips, and more.

Every mech starts with one primary weapon. You can purchase two additional primary weapons in the garage. You can purchase the alternate primary weapon at mech rank 3 and the prestige weapon at mech rank 5. You can swap your primary weapon in the Garage or in the Staging Area before a match or between respawns. Each mech only has one secondary weapon. They cannot be switched out for alternatives like primary weapons. However, all secondary weapons possess a special ability that provides additional functionality. Use the middle mouse button to activate that ability.

HAWKEN lets you change your equipment to customize and upgrade your mechs. You can equip a variety of useful items and deploy them in battle to gain an edge over your opponents.

Don't let the Steam stat fool you, I've played this game for hundreds upon hundreds of hours, and it has all been worth it. The reason the Steam stat is wrong is because Hawken has been available for download since 2012, and it only recently became available on Steam. If you don't believe me, here's a couple of links to screenshots proving it right here: 1 and 2

Ever since I first got into the Alpha way back in 2012, I've been absolutely hooked to Hawken. Hawken is an excellent first person shooter in the tradition of games somewhat along the lines of arena shooters like Quake or Unreal Tournament, but with a nice mech flair that gives Hawken a very unique feel. There are well over a dozen mechs in the game, all with their own play styles, strengths, and weaknesses, and with quite a bit of customization for each one, from the way they perform to the way they look. You can unlock these customizations simply by playing a mech, or by buying them with the in game currency. Free cosmetic customization options unlock as well as you level up the individual mechs (mech level) and your overall earned experience across all mechs (pilot level).

When I first got into it, I was a little worried since, as a free to play game, the possibility of pay-to-win rearing its ugly head was always a possibility, but my fears remained unfounded. Like all developers, these guys need to make money, but they've limited the pay-only stuff to the cosmetic options like camos, thrusters, and repair drones that all have no effect on game play. You of course have the option to buy new mechs and such straight away, too, but it's never a requirement. All the mechs and weapons are balanced very well overall, and there has never been a single MUST HAVE mech or weapon that gives you an advantage over everyone else.

I did, personally, buy a Brawler the moment the game entered open beta, as I knew from the closed testing it was the mech for me. However, every other mech, weapon, item, and internal in the game was bought with the currency I earned simply through playing - and I have them all. There is a grind - but it is nowhere near as heinous as it is in plenty of other free-to-play titles out there, and I enjoyed every bit of the game play, I never once felt like I was having to grind out the equipment. On top of all that, the community in this game is phenomenal. I never wanted to get involved in an official community, or in a clan before. It had always seemed stupid and pointless and bleergh. However, I was slowly pushed into it with Hawken, and it's been a tremendous experience. So many of the players are extremely helpful, the developers are friendly and responsive, and my experience as a whole with this game was profoundly affected by my interactions with the community here. Seriously, it's shockingly good for an online game.

Tl;dr: There is no third person. This game is great. Go play it.

I'm not a huge fan of free-to-play FPS multiplayer shooters, simply because most of them quickly become repetetive.
If you're looking for something fresh, fun and unbelievably addictive... Ladies and gentlemechs: Hawken.

The good:
+ Gorgeous visuals.
+ Amazingly solid gameplay with very responsive controls.
+ Very unique, and quite simply the best mech-game currently out there.
+ A wide variety of mech classes, weapons, loadouts, equipment, character customization and so on.
+ Intense FPS action spread over reasonably large maps.
+ A clear and very well integrated HUD- and combat-system that fits the setting like a glove.
+ Little to no flaws or bugs, which is especially noteworthy for a betaversion.

The bad:
- Micro-transactions. Most of the things can be purchased with HAWKEN Credits (the currency you'll get for completing matches etc.), but most of the customization-items will cost you Meteor Credits (currency you'll have to buy with your local coin). Still, there is no need for you to buy in-game items to make it more "balanced" -- weapons can also be bought with HC or can be unlocked as you progress. Thank you for this, devs! :3
- This game will bite large chucks out of my social life. God f**king damn it.

The ugly:
- There's nothing ugly about this. Seriously. From the immersive sound to the breathtaking visuals, everything this game does is flawless.

Final verdict:
Many free-to-play FPS multiplayer shooters can't even come close to the standards HAWKEN set for me.
9.5/10

Awesome Game, only 6 hours in after 2 HOURS both myself, and my best friend decided that a full 30$ investment in the nemesis bundle was a must. but here are some points i would like to make about the game:

- Great Dev Support and community interaction

-Great Gameplay

-Doesnt feel pay2win(p2w), as i often have been outmatched by the default mech even with my fully customized assault mech (courtesy of the nemesis bundle!)

-The game provides VARIETY in maps(although i wish there were alot more for TDM!) and the pacing and gameplay is always fluid and the registration and everything is very on point (in my opinion)

-Doesnt Get Stale(So far) the game has not got boring at all, out of town trips and work recently have made me not be able to invest all of the time i wish i could be into this great, free to play, title made by AWESOME devs who seriously have impressed me GREATLY.

I see many people, certainly in the discussion forum for hawken on steam seem to think this game is pay to win, or is unfair to new players. well as i mentioned in some of the many strongpoints i noted this game definately does not feel pay to win at ALL you can pay to customize your mech, as well as your play style. i feel as if a VAST majority of the playerbase can florish in this game even with the most basic mech(the default mech, in this case) and honestly. even if you were to want to grind it honestly isnt that bad. i was too busy communicating with my teamate and enjoying great gameplay to notice. my Review For HAWKEN on steam (Rated By Category)

Gameplay 9/10 ( could use minor improvements, that i am sure will be addressed so i will not go into as they are meager in terms of interruption of my experience/enjoyment with the game)

Visuals 9/10 (Looks great on Low!) But the game is, as stated in the requirements not for the most average gamings pc's, i maintain a steady framerate at medium, high is just a little too much for my Gaming laptop, runs on max on my rig no problem.

f2p Fairness 10/10(while you certainly can buy items with credits purchase by real currency, the game never feels like it is pay to win, and the gameplay is always fair. pay if you feel like investing into your favorite mech(s) or grind the game and earn it! all you can pay for is customization and convenience (battlefield for example, in bad company 2 allowed you to purchase shortcut packs to different classes, and that is a full retail release (AAA) at that so is it so wrong to pay 5,10, or over 9000! on a game that is certainly worth it and completely outdoes its f2p tag.

Controls/Navigation-10/10 i found the controls extremely easy to get used to and all of the default mapping was great for all options, and everything is relatively easy to manage and navigate

Community 9/10- in my first hours of hawken me and my best friend were eager to learn and the community was certainly helpful on not ony the forums but also in game chat. some minor annoyances occured in game with people complaining of
"Hackers" or "p2w losers" but overall i have had a great experience.
OVERALL SCORE 9/10 Must Try!

Thank you for reading, i would also like ot note that i installed hawken purely for a quick fix for titanfall, but soon realised that this game might be the king of mech games afterall, it takes mech combat and gameplay and makes it amazing, without the need for any desire to ever leave your mech(why would you, anyways?!) this was my first full review and i thank anyone who took the time to read it!, i will hopefully build on it in the future with more examples, notes. but for now, back to the game!
TLDR
Hawken is the S#!t. Go Install It!

I have played this game for about a year now and can honestly say that it is one of my all time favorites! No more slow, clunky machines of old, these mech's can book it and are armed to the teeth. If you like giant robots and are an FPS junkie, Hawken is a must in your library. The customization is top shelf, mobility is satisfying and the graphics are immersive. Please do yourself a favor and invest your game time in this first class shooter.

Long time player of Hawken, been around since the Closed Alpha and Beta testing, and I've dumped hundreds upon hundreds of hours in Hawken since. While the game may feature some balance issues these are being addressed and the team is very dedicated to delivering a great experience. This isn't your typical mech simulator though, this is a fast paced FPS mech game more akin to arena shooters like Unreal Tournament or Quake Arena than Call of Duty. You have to learn to play within the restrictions of the mech such as turn rate caps, fuel levels, speeds, and so forth. This makes for some very rewarding combat that puts skill above all else. And before you ask yes you can purchase mechs, internals, and items with real world currency this doesn't give you an advantage unless you've taken the time to get good with the mech, weapon, or whatever you've purchased. There is no best mech or anything like so you've got nothing to worry about there.

Hawken also has one of the best F2P models I've seen since the only content that is locked behind a pay wall is cosmetics only. Everything else can be purchased with currency you earn in-game and the earn rates aren't bad at all plus the team is still implementing more ways to earn Hawken Credits.

This is definitely worth a look for anyone looking for a good fast paced FPS and you can't argue with the price of free. Hopefully the game won't be on Early Access for long with the Nemesis Bundle so as many people as possible can try it out and see what Hawken is all about.
