Dev Update - 2015-11-13

From the desk of CapnJosh:

Tasks completed since the last update:

  • UI work, particularly at the code level - it's well-done but pretty complex, so it's taking pretty long to digest.
  • Hosting and parent domain updates for additional development environment  In the future, we'll have everything under *.playhawken.com rather than *.meteor-ent.com.
  • More engine-level work.  DX11 anybody?
  • Updates to the Meteor SDK to support some planned enhancements.
  • Beginning work on the back-end to support better management of mech and weapon stats.
  • Beginning work on 3d model exports and imports.
Upcoming tasks:
  • More UI work
  • Supporting a partner who may make an announcement as early as this week. So keep your Google news alerts tuned to Hawken :)
  • Get the replacement game server host up for Ashburn. The Ashburn host was taken out a earlier than expected, so there will be about a week until the replacement will be ready
  • Start to convert our DEV and Staged environments over to use the *.playhawken.com domain scheme
  • Start work on creating new mech platforms  This is the code-level stuff used by new mechs.

War Wednesday Nov 11 - Weekly Missions Kick-off

Another War Wednesday coming your way! Please suggest games and post your stream links here!

As always, we'll meet up on the community teamspeak ~9:30pm EST: ts5.gameservers.com:9152
For map mods and custom games to request, observe a list of community favorites.

This week I am very excited to introduce weekly missions. This week's mission will be limited to a first-come first-serve basis due to limited prizes. Not all missions will be like this, some may be free-for-all or have teams register in the thread.

If this should go well and attendance supports it, future War Wednesday will feature territory warfare. Yes, I'll do the bookkeeping and all you pilots can steal imaginary land from each other.

About This Game

HAWKEN is a multiplayer first person shooter for PC that places you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world called Illal. With strategic, fast-paced gameplay, HAWKEN features incredible alien landscapes, customizable and upgradable mechs, and dynamic experiences across multiple competitive game modes.

HAWKEN features 6 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Co-Op Bot Destruction, Missile Assault, Siege, Deathmatch and Co-Op TDM. Each mode offers a unique gameplay experience that requires a different approach and hones a separate set of skills.

  • Team Deathmatch
Two teams of six group together and battle as a team in a race to 40 kills. Fighting as a group and knowing when to play defensively is essential to survival.

  • Co-Op Bot Destruction
Team up with three other pilots for 25 waves of increasingly intense encounters against computer controlled mechs and attack drones. Every fifth wave is led by one or more elite boss mechs that can’t be defeated alone. Move as a group, plan your attack, and spend your resources wisely to eek out a victory against all odds. Co-Op Bot Destruction is currently available on the Facility and Front Line maps, each featuring a unique set of enemies.

  • Missile Assault
Split your team of six into groups and compete over three missile silos spread across the map. Capture a silo and maintain control over it to launch missiles against the enemy team’s base ship. Control all three missile silos to do bonus damage and end the battle even sooner. Flexibility and effective use of items are the key to destroying the enemy base before they destroy yours.

  • Siege
Collect EU from two energy sources in neutral territory and return them to base to launch an attack ship at the enemy base. Fight for control over the Anti Aircraft battery in the center of the map to keep your ship from being shot down before it reaches and destroys the enemy base. There is no time limit in Siege, but every ship you launch is more powerful than the last.

  • Deathmatch
Watch your radar and be careful not to expose yourself until you have the advantage in an intense free-for-all battle. The player with the highest score after 10 minutes wins.

  • Co-Op TDM
Team up with 5 other pilots for online TDM against computer controlled mechs. If you want to jump into a match and have some fun without concerning yourself with human opponents, then this is the mode for you!

HAWKEN features a wide range of customization options that allow you to craft a unique look and equipment loadout that other players will remember.

  • Cosmetic
Strike fear in your enemies and confidence in your allies with unique trim colors & paint patterns, chassis parts, thrusters, and repair drones. Taunt defeated opponents and make your teammates laugh with comic mech emotes and deployable hologram generators. Make yourself at home in your mech by using cockpit decorations, custom HUD colors and different combinations of primary and secondary reticles!

  • Practical
Customize your play style and abilities with passive internals and deployable items. Internals take one to three of six available internal slots and range in effect from giving your mech a unique ability, such as dashing or doing a 180 spin in mid-air, to temporarily boosting damage or healing each time you gain a kill or assist. Items can serve as an additional weapon (e.g. EMPs, Grenades), a deployable piece of equipment that helps you and your teammates (e.g. Portable Scanner, Shield) or one that disrupts your enemies (e.g. Machine Gun or Rocket Turret, Radar Scrambler). Select a loadout that matches your play style to defeat your enemies quickly, support your team, or control tactically important areas of the map.

Game Guide

HAWKEN offers pilots numerous mechs in three different weight classes that fill a variety of distinct roles on the battlefield. Find the mechs that match your play style and study the strengths and weaknesses of enemy mechs in our comprehensive mech guide.

HAWKEN has numerous maps to explore. But you can’t always enjoy the scenery--or get your bearings--while boosting away from enemies. Our Map Guide includes interactive maps showing major points of interest for every game mode on every map, plus lore, screenshots, gameplay tips, and more.

Every mech starts with one primary weapon. You can purchase two additional primary weapons in the garage. You can purchase the alternate primary weapon at mech rank 3 and the prestige weapon at mech rank 5. You can swap your primary weapon in the Garage or in the Staging Area before a match or between respawns. Each mech only has one secondary weapon. They cannot be switched out for alternatives like primary weapons. However, all secondary weapons possess a special ability that provides additional functionality. Use the middle mouse button to activate that ability.

HAWKEN lets you change your equipment to customize and upgrade your mechs. You can equip a variety of useful items and deploy them in battle to gain an edge over your opponents.

One of the best games I came across lately.

Big Plus:
- You really don't have to spend money if you don't want to.
- The game definitely deserves that you spend some money to support it.
- And it's really fun if you like robots and games like Mechwarrior.
- Graphics and sound really good.

This game should really get more hype. I play few FPS games, but those I do play I want several things from:

* rely on teamwork (not key mashing, not hacking, not memorizing glitches in maps, not require popping speed)

* atmosphere (I don't want to just pretend like I'm a war. There's enough real war. Zombies? Cool. Cyberpunk? Cool.)

* competitive while still allowing for a life (not pay 2 win, not a ridiculous learning curve, no grinding)

* decent graphics

Hawken delivers on all of these things. After somewhere around a hundred hours of game play I spent $10 on decorative stuff in game as a thank you to the developers and encouragement to keep up the support. I didn't need to spend a cent, and I chose not to spend any more in the next few hundred hours of game play.

Combat moves fast for a giant robot game. You're not zipping around on hovercraft or fighter jets and that's fine by me, nor are people teleporting beside you and vaporizing you. I've gotten good enough to play in the top tier games, though I'm generally a little out-classed there. I have plenty of fun with that challenge, and when I play lower-level games it's a easy blast that still manages to challenge because of the game's reliance on teamwork.

At the price tag (free!) this game has got to be one of my favorite games. The only games that I've played to death like this are L4D2, Fallout 3, Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Secret World. Almost all of those games have hefty price tags and open worlds. That says something about Hawken that it can keep my attention as well as those games.

My only complaints:
* they could definitely stand to increase the number of maps
* they could easily add more decorative options and make them a little cheaper. I'd spend another $5 if they were

Game is F2P for just about everything. It is pretty heavily team based yet still fun. The concept is also cool and appealing. I say give a shot if your wondering wether or not it is worth the time.

Good team game.

-Versatile play style
-customization of mecs according to play style
-different modes of battle
-uniqueness of each mechs
-fairly easy to level up
-if u have a good PC then graphics of environment are spectacular :)

-player count is reducing rapidly(almost no one played in my country) I can only find matches in either Europe or america
-no major update(no new mech came to market and no new map is released)
-redundancy in environment due to limited maps

This game definitely need more players otherwise its a dead game

Remember playing Mechwarrior? What about Armored Core? Ever wanted to pick up a game that you can spend 10 minutes learning, jump into a game and kick other people around in giant flying robots? The matchmaking in AC is trash, the multi-player in Mechwarrior is fun but the learning curve will kill you a thousand times more than the other players.

This game is the game I've been waiting years to play.
It's fun, fast-paced, and easy to learn.
The pay-wall doesn't exist, it's more like a pay-elevator, and the rest of us freebies have to use the stairs.
I much prefer this type of micro-transaction driven content than the actual pay-to-win where the best of everything is ONLY available to those that shell out $100+ for that limited edition gear that overpowers everything. Want a mech? Earn the in-game currency and buy it. Want it sooner? The spend real cash and buy it. The only truly-limited stuff is the cosmetic inventory.

Definitely recommend this game to people that enjoy the giant mech genre.
