About This Game

HAWKEN is a multiplayer first person shooter for PC that places you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world called Illal. With strategic, fast-paced gameplay, HAWKEN features incredible alien landscapes, customizable and upgradable mechs, and dynamic experiences across multiple competitive game modes.

HAWKEN features 6 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Co-Op Bot Destruction, Missile Assault, Siege, Deathmatch and Co-Op TDM. Each mode offers a unique gameplay experience that requires a different approach and hones a separate set of skills.

  • Team Deathmatch
Two teams of six group together and battle as a team in a race to 40 kills. Fighting as a group and knowing when to play defensively is essential to survival.

  • Co-Op Bot Destruction
Team up with three other pilots for 25 waves of increasingly intense encounters against computer controlled mechs and attack drones. Every fifth wave is led by one or more elite boss mechs that can’t be defeated alone. Move as a group, plan your attack, and spend your resources wisely to eek out a victory against all odds. Co-Op Bot Destruction is currently available on the Facility and Front Line maps, each featuring a unique set of enemies.

  • Missile Assault
Split your team of six into groups and compete over three missile silos spread across the map. Capture a silo and maintain control over it to launch missiles against the enemy team’s base ship. Control all three missile silos to do bonus damage and end the battle even sooner. Flexibility and effective use of items are the key to destroying the enemy base before they destroy yours.

  • Siege
Collect EU from two energy sources in neutral territory and return them to base to launch an attack ship at the enemy base. Fight for control over the Anti Aircraft battery in the center of the map to keep your ship from being shot down before it reaches and destroys the enemy base. There is no time limit in Siege, but every ship you launch is more powerful than the last.

  • Deathmatch
Watch your radar and be careful not to expose yourself until you have the advantage in an intense free-for-all battle. The player with the highest score after 10 minutes wins.

  • Co-Op TDM
Team up with 5 other pilots for online TDM against computer controlled mechs. If you want to jump into a match and have some fun without concerning yourself with human opponents, then this is the mode for you!

HAWKEN features a wide range of customization options that allow you to craft a unique look and equipment loadout that other players will remember.

  • Cosmetic
Strike fear in your enemies and confidence in your allies with unique trim colors & paint patterns, chassis parts, thrusters, and repair drones. Taunt defeated opponents and make your teammates laugh with comic mech emotes and deployable hologram generators. Make yourself at home in your mech by using cockpit decorations, custom HUD colors and different combinations of primary and secondary reticles!

  • Practical
Customize your play style and abilities with passive internals and deployable items. Internals take one to three of six available internal slots and range in effect from giving your mech a unique ability, such as dashing or doing a 180 spin in mid-air, to temporarily boosting damage or healing each time you gain a kill or assist. Items can serve as an additional weapon (e.g. EMPs, Grenades), a deployable piece of equipment that helps you and your teammates (e.g. Portable Scanner, Shield) or one that disrupts your enemies (e.g. Machine Gun or Rocket Turret, Radar Scrambler). Select a loadout that matches your play style to defeat your enemies quickly, support your team, or control tactically important areas of the map.

Game Guide

HAWKEN offers pilots numerous mechs in three different weight classes that fill a variety of distinct roles on the battlefield. Find the mechs that match your play style and study the strengths and weaknesses of enemy mechs in our comprehensive mech guide.

HAWKEN has numerous maps to explore. But you can’t always enjoy the scenery--or get your bearings--while boosting away from enemies. Our Map Guide includes interactive maps showing major points of interest for every game mode on every map, plus lore, screenshots, gameplay tips, and more.

Every mech starts with one primary weapon. You can purchase two additional primary weapons in the garage. You can purchase the alternate primary weapon at mech rank 3 and the prestige weapon at mech rank 5. You can swap your primary weapon in the Garage or in the Staging Area before a match or between respawns. Each mech only has one secondary weapon. They cannot be switched out for alternatives like primary weapons. However, all secondary weapons possess a special ability that provides additional functionality. Use the middle mouse button to activate that ability.

HAWKEN lets you change your equipment to customize and upgrade your mechs. You can equip a variety of useful items and deploy them in battle to gain an edge over your opponents.

Fans of mech games or just first-person-shooter fans in general will enjoy the speed and veracity at which HAWKEN delivers a powerful, engaging shooter experience.
Mechs of every shape and size, each with hundreds of customization options - whether functional or cosmetic -- abound the game marketplace, titillating potential buyers with relatively affordable prices. Nothing is of the dreaded "pay-to-win" model however.

The mech combat game is graphically very nice, especially for an indie title.
the maps are small, and the combat fast.
Before each match, players pick their mech. Mechs come in Light, Medium and Heavy classes.
Each offering a different play style. The game also gives each mech a difficulty rating. There's the Assault, a lightweight all-rounder that combines a medium range rifle with a TOW rocket launcher. Assault mechs are easy to use, but lack personality, like an off-brand toaster. The Rocketeer is more of a challenge, but a powerhouse in the right hands.

Each mech has a primary weapon and a secondary weapon.
you can customize their mechs in the Garage. three primary weapons are available to each mech.
Mechs can carry two items. offensive and support Items.
The Assault, for example, can instantly cool down its weapons if they overheat.

Mechs can be equipped with three internals, offensive, defensive and functional, which provide passive buffs and debuffs.
Leveling up buffs the mech's performance and unlocking new weapons, items and optimization. The cap is 25, at which point the player can choose to prestige the mech. Prestige will reset the mech's level back to 1 but will unlock special prestige weapons.
You'll earn optimisation points that you can use to advance through three RPG-style skill trees. Offence increases bullet damage, fire rate, and reduces weapon heat. Defence toughens up your armour and increases your dodge speed. Movement enables you to walk faster, makes you less visible to radar, and increases your fuel regeneration rate.

You start with a very old mech. this mech looks like a big tv screen with arms and big legs (very old one). Some players will probably end up buying Meteor Credits.
You'll have to spend 7000 Hawken Credits for that right . Or you could just spend 800 Meteor Credits instead - real cash. 800 Credits > around 4 dollars.

There are 5 game modes. deathmatch, team deathmatch, missle assault, siege and survival.
Deathmatch and survival are my fav. siege and missle assault are interesting too.
Missile Assault has two sides fighting to take control of three missile silos. When a silo is held, it continually launches rockets at the enemy base.
Siege mod: Players have to gather energy from the map, and bring it back to the base. When a certain amount is harvested, an big battleship is launched to the opposing team's base. When this happens, the other team has to secure an AA gun to shoot it down. Siege is maybe the best mode.

great mech shooter without a pay2win system. if you like heavy warmachines, choose your mech and jump in!

The best F2P Mech shooter you can get on Steam.

- Highly addictive. Gain XP and equip your mech with thousands of weapon combinations.
- Earn about 500 in-game badges (like achievements) and uplevel your mech to highest rank.
- Contains a lot of paying elements (like XP booster, emoticons, and other cosmetic) but you can just ignore them. Because mostly you buy your upgrades with the in-game earned currency.
- Really cool maps and I've just played team deathmatch yet.
- Fall in love with Laila, your female guide ...

Can you believe this? - The game is still early access.

This game receives the highest possible praise I can give a game... it doesn't suck. In fact... it is amazing on many levels. There are a ton of articles and reviews available on the interwebs, written by professionals... so I won't go into a ton of detail. I do want to point out a few things that stand out to me personally.

One of the first things I noticed is the art and attention to graphic design detail, it is just stunning.
<insert eloquent description of art and design aesthetic>

The pace and style of gameplay is perfect for both long sessions with friends or getting in a quickie match before going to school/work/chores. I will say that often that one quick match turns into "just one more", and then you've lost a few hours.
<insert anecdote about epic sessions and fitting in quick matches throughout the day>

On the topic of long sessions with friends... that may be a perfect segway to my favorite part of Hawken, and what makes it the amazing game it is, in my opinion.... the Hawken Pilot Community is awesome! I enjoy the game... but the joy I get from playing with this group of people... I don't have words for it.

My recommendation - download the game.... it's free, as in FREE. Get involved with a group/clan or make your own. Browse the Offical Community Forums site... join in on one of the many open community events. Have Fun and Good Luck!

First of all, this game is about as Pay to Win as League of Legends is. You can get every mech in the game without spending a dime. All Mechs and weapons can be bought using the Hawken equivalent of IP, and customizations can be purchased with the Hawken RP.

Second, I'd like to say that I am an oldschool gamer and a die-hard fan of the Mechwarrior series. I first turned to Mechwarrior Online, but that game was a bitter dissapointment. You would only get one life per match, and the matchmaking was terrible. Once you died, you were out for the 20 minute plus snail race of a match. I had given up on Mechs for a long while, but then I saw HAWKEN.

I honestly love this game so much I don't know how to begin.
This game is fast paced. Unlike Mechwarrior Online, you respawn within ten seconds of your death, and the matches are always a brisk ten minutes in duration. Where as MechWO was needlessly complicated with no tutorial, This game is very easy to learn. At the same time, it is difficult to master, so don't think you won't be challenged. Everything is about skill, with perhaps a bit of luck thrown in as well. Team battles are tactical, yet don't panic if you get a bad team because a few skilled players can sometimes carry an entire team.
Each mech has a different unique ability, and a playstyle that maches. You can spend countless hours learning, mastering, and perfecting each one. My personal favorite is the Predator, who can remain indefinitely invisible, but firing turns of the cloak for a few seconds, and getting shot gives you about a 15 second cooldown. Each mech has default weapons, and then a few alternative weapons that you can unlock using the currency you gain from completing missions. Mechs are very fairly balanced, and every month or so a new patch is added to balance things further and add new content.
There are multiple game types to play, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Siege (a king of the hill-esque game mode), and a co-op vs AI mode that actually is extremely difficult and entertaining. Do NOT neglect these matches because they are awesome.

Best Mech game out there.
This game is wicked sick with high-speed mech battles, explosions, and epic chases. If you aren't careful you will never stop playing. Great game to play with friends or by yourself :)
I'd tell you to buy it right now, BUT IT'S FREE!!!!

Pretty good futuristic F2P shooter. Seems to have a good selection of maps, too.

Basically, you operate something similar to what Colonel Quaritch used against Jake toward the end of the movie Avatar, only this one can fly, too. I'm sure with all the upgrades, it can be even better.

Check it out. Five-finger discounted, too...

Ever since TF2 started to betray me with various technical difficulties, I've been forced to look around Steam for new multiplayer experiences. I tried RoboCraft and grinded that for about a few months (Was fun until tier 6). Then my brother made me buy Strike Vector which is enjoyable in those very rare moments when there are people playing it and NOT constantly dominating you with dual rocket launchers. I've also played the Sniper Elite V2's multiplayer but that's funny for about a half hour up to an hour. Two hours if I listen to music at the same time. Sadly, I was getting bored...

But then I discovered HAWKEN. A game about mechs fighting each other with guns on their arms. You might have heard of Mechwarrior Online and you might be more interested in that rather than HAWKEN. But HAWKEN is like Mechwarrior's less realistic brother/sister, however, that doesn't mean HAWKEN is less fun. In fact, I really enjoyed HAWKEN because of its in-detail tutorial that explains mech movements that you can develop and master over time. Also I found it really easy to get into, but difficult to be really good at. That's pretty much my vision of TF2. "Easy to do, hard to master".

But the only sad thing about HAWKEN is that, like all the other free-to-play games, you have to grind it to get the more fancier stuff. But as long as you're having fun shooting at your mechanized opponents, you're going to enjoy this game very much.

I rate it 9/10.

Also, if you're new to HAWKEN, then I would like to inform you that every new player gets 500 Meteor Credits (The currency that consists of REAL WORLD money) for free. I'd just like to say that you should always think twice before spending it. Here's a tip: Get yourself a repair drone and a pair of thrusters. DO NOT buy cockpits, emoticons or weapons. You'll thank me later.

This game is amazing.

I recently aquired it, and after the 2 hours that I have played it, I'm hooked. Basically, if you are into FPS mech shooters, then this game is the the best F2P mech shooter out there. One of the best features that I have noticed is that there are no "game breaking" mechs, as in mechs that are overpowered and can take your entire team in one life. This I feel, is a strong point, because I hate playing games where theres that one guy who has the OP gun and wrecks your team instantly, and there are so many games where that unfortunate element is present.

This is an amazing game that required acctual work to advance in! You can pay to win, but is compleatly optional, and you can get anywhere without paying. I can not belive the quality of this game, for a free game using the "unreal" engine, this is hard to beat! Not to many complaints for it so far.

This is a great game. If you are a fan of mech combat or shooters in general, you should pick it up. The controls and movement are super intuitive, it feels satisfying jumping, gliding and exploding the other mechs. All the weapons feel great and have a nice weight to them. There are 18 different mechs each with a few different weapons so the variety is good. Also the matchmaking has almost no lag in my experience. ITS FREE PICK IT THE ♥♥♥♥ UP.

sure - hawken is great because its got decent multiplayer. its fast and i haven't seen crazy desynchs or lossy play like in say, payday2. that multiplayer sure is great connection wise. too bad there's no game to play.

Graphics: 7/10 - reasonable. a bit choppy and low effort in some areas.

Multiplayer/Network: 9/10 - Glorious connection, not desynchy or lossy.

CoOp: 4/10 - the modes are limited to two choices, one of which you cannot join after the game has started, and has a persistent and annoying end-of-round timer.

Gameplay: 4/10 - for what it does, it does good, lack of choices and customisation of weapons causes this to have a reduced score. as well as the lack of a singleplayer mode.

Replayability 2/10 - Really easy to leave this game on a shelf, or just delete altogether. very easy to groan at the sameness of play.

developer support ?/10 - I have no clue when the last update for this game came out, but what I can say is that each update changes very little from the player's perspective. Highly doubt any huge revamp updates coming from these guys.

in hawken you have to change your class to change your weapons.

>you have to change your class to change your weapons.<

that gets stale. really crusty like bread that's been left on the cupboard all day. because for a long time there were like eh.. 10 - 12 to choose from. now there's 18 or whatever.. but to unlock them you have to grind grind, or pay pay. I feel the new choices for mechs are just reworks of old mechs in different chassis. (ie the same light mech weapons in a heavy, a heavy mech weapons in a light. etc.)

Heavy mech weapons do the same damage as light mech weapons. I was pretty surprised by this, since you'd think a heavy mech can support much more weight and maybe bigger freaking guns.

The only advantage to choosing a heavy mech is that you have more mech that can take damage before you die. (lifebar +, Agility -) a light mech gets a bit more fuel for jumping with and less armor of course. (lifebar -, agility ++) and the fact it gets like two dodges a second, if you're good you can definitely negate damage. (superior players tend to jump in light mechs)

The game's microtransactions get a bit annoying too, but they're not tooo 'in your face' but it's sure to remind you 'hey look at how much experience you *could* have gotten! hey, look at these new MECHS!' kind of thing. and this 'treat yourself to a boost' phrase. what the hell. I wouldn't consider spending money on hawken a treat, lady.

anyway, let's do a thought experiment.

haha, okay. so lets do it. Let's imagine we grind every mech, and get every prestige weapon(upon levelling up your mech rank you can get access to this or pay to unlock early). HELL YEAH WE'RE AWESOME. uhh no we aren't.

the prestige weapon usually doesn't make sense, and isn't terribly better than the default weapon, it just allows you to play a different playstyle (ie assault rifle instead of vulcan<fancy word for minigun> - lets you fight at range, but if you get caught close in, you're probably definitely boned because the mech was originally designed with the original weapon in mind to make up for its weaknesses which you just decided to mess with. smooth.)

it's a really easy game to leave. *REALLY* easy. The players who are good? eh, once you get (pay or grind) the mech they're using and get (pay or grind) the same items, all of a sudden (BIG SHOCKER) you start dominating matches.

oh sure your aim improves, and your team needs to have less suck than the other team, but in general you just wait (camp) till your target is relatively isolated and turns its attention to someone else and burst them down, or wait (camp) for your friends to come roflstomp your target 3-1. Every game mode is camp-to-win! and if you're not camping, you're doing it wrong.

don't get me wrong, i like hawken. but it's not sleek and sexy like the japanese beamsword mechs that look and act like people and have personalities(wat?) out there, or enough of a mobile artillery platform bristling with guns, and armor and missiles and nukes like the american mechs out there.

The hawken mechs look flimsy and like their engineers need to go back to school, and use new material and not 560% recycled cardboard to build their machines of death. Come on man, at least make the mechs look COOL if you're going to make a mech game. christ.

It's just lacking the depth that other games have. an excellent framework and engine, but zero filler. its like standing in an excellently constructed empty building.

hawken had the potential to be better than titanfall and destiny and call of d00ty!

Sadly, other games already do what hawken does much better.

I'm not recommending this because I don't feel it reaches all areas of gameplay very well apart from graphics and multiplayer. Only diehard mech genre fans are really going to consider this a worthy or reasonable purchase. The standard player should steer clear.

And after acquiring this amount of playtime, it's very easy to suggest that this is going to be how the game is going to stay, and it's not very different from previous versions at all. Early access or no - I feel this is the model they're sticking with and it's not the model I had in mind when first looking at this game.

This game is amazing. This is the game ive been looking for, for a LOOOOONG time! Its like a mix of Call Of Duty but with robots and WAY more fun. You have much more customization ability and just the gameplay is just incredible, but if your not into fast paced FPS games then I dont recomend it. But who knows! You just might enjoy it. Now onto the graphics. One word. I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E! These graphics definetly bring the game to life, andi t sure feels that way too when your in the game. You have a really cool and realistic HUD at the bottom of the screen, almost like its the monitor for a "real" mech. This just makes me wish that this was real. Now I have heard of the ability to use the Oculus Rift with this game, and immedietly in my mind i thought..."HOLY SHIAT.With the Utra realistic graphics, AND the Oculus Rift put together, you might as well be one with the game!" I definetly recommend to try for ALL.
