About This Game

HAWKEN is a multiplayer first person shooter for PC that places you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world called Illal. With strategic, fast-paced gameplay, HAWKEN features incredible alien landscapes, customizable and upgradable mechs, and dynamic experiences across multiple competitive game modes.

HAWKEN features 6 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Co-Op Bot Destruction, Missile Assault, Siege, Deathmatch and Co-Op TDM. Each mode offers a unique gameplay experience that requires a different approach and hones a separate set of skills.

  • Team Deathmatch
Two teams of six group together and battle as a team in a race to 40 kills. Fighting as a group and knowing when to play defensively is essential to survival.

  • Co-Op Bot Destruction
Team up with three other pilots for 25 waves of increasingly intense encounters against computer controlled mechs and attack drones. Every fifth wave is led by one or more elite boss mechs that can’t be defeated alone. Move as a group, plan your attack, and spend your resources wisely to eek out a victory against all odds. Co-Op Bot Destruction is currently available on the Facility and Front Line maps, each featuring a unique set of enemies.

  • Missile Assault
Split your team of six into groups and compete over three missile silos spread across the map. Capture a silo and maintain control over it to launch missiles against the enemy team’s base ship. Control all three missile silos to do bonus damage and end the battle even sooner. Flexibility and effective use of items are the key to destroying the enemy base before they destroy yours.

  • Siege
Collect EU from two energy sources in neutral territory and return them to base to launch an attack ship at the enemy base. Fight for control over the Anti Aircraft battery in the center of the map to keep your ship from being shot down before it reaches and destroys the enemy base. There is no time limit in Siege, but every ship you launch is more powerful than the last.

  • Deathmatch
Watch your radar and be careful not to expose yourself until you have the advantage in an intense free-for-all battle. The player with the highest score after 10 minutes wins.

  • Co-Op TDM
Team up with 5 other pilots for online TDM against computer controlled mechs. If you want to jump into a match and have some fun without concerning yourself with human opponents, then this is the mode for you!

HAWKEN features a wide range of customization options that allow you to craft a unique look and equipment loadout that other players will remember.

  • Cosmetic
Strike fear in your enemies and confidence in your allies with unique trim colors & paint patterns, chassis parts, thrusters, and repair drones. Taunt defeated opponents and make your teammates laugh with comic mech emotes and deployable hologram generators. Make yourself at home in your mech by using cockpit decorations, custom HUD colors and different combinations of primary and secondary reticles!

  • Practical
Customize your play style and abilities with passive internals and deployable items. Internals take one to three of six available internal slots and range in effect from giving your mech a unique ability, such as dashing or doing a 180 spin in mid-air, to temporarily boosting damage or healing each time you gain a kill or assist. Items can serve as an additional weapon (e.g. EMPs, Grenades), a deployable piece of equipment that helps you and your teammates (e.g. Portable Scanner, Shield) or one that disrupts your enemies (e.g. Machine Gun or Rocket Turret, Radar Scrambler). Select a loadout that matches your play style to defeat your enemies quickly, support your team, or control tactically important areas of the map.

Game Guide

HAWKEN offers pilots numerous mechs in three different weight classes that fill a variety of distinct roles on the battlefield. Find the mechs that match your play style and study the strengths and weaknesses of enemy mechs in our comprehensive mech guide.
http://www.playhawken.com/game-guide/mechs

HAWKEN has numerous maps to explore. But you can’t always enjoy the scenery--or get your bearings--while boosting away from enemies. Our Map Guide includes interactive maps showing major points of interest for every game mode on every map, plus lore, screenshots, gameplay tips, and more.
http://www.playhawken.com/game-guide/maps

Every mech starts with one primary weapon. You can purchase two additional primary weapons in the garage. You can purchase the alternate primary weapon at mech rank 3 and the prestige weapon at mech rank 5. You can swap your primary weapon in the Garage or in the Staging Area before a match or between respawns. Each mech only has one secondary weapon. They cannot be switched out for alternatives like primary weapons. However, all secondary weapons possess a special ability that provides additional functionality. Use the middle mouse button to activate that ability.
http://www.playhawken.com/game-guide/weapons

HAWKEN lets you change your equipment to customize and upgrade your mechs. You can equip a variety of useful items and deploy them in battle to gain an edge over your opponents.

This game is REALLY good, i mean id say the best mech game out on pc, but the game has not been updated in the past 2 years. This game has got a decent number of unique mechs to play with and getting in game money to buy them isnt a horrible challenge at all. The maps are nicely designed and each is unique. Gameplay itself is super fun. This all sounds good but the problem is that due to the dev for the game basically disappearing, alot of people stopped playing the game and now only about 4 to 7 servers out of the 50 servers are ever active. There are still a few people playing this game and if you like piloting your own mech get on and check out this game, it desreves more than what it actually got.
A beautiful game ruined by failed developers...

This game was insanely fun in the Pre-steam Beta days a few years back.

It had a huge following. Was a helll of allot of fun when there was tons of people to play with.
Dont know what happened. I figuire the dev just too damn long to implement better features and add moe depth to the game. It is rather shallow. But as far as mech games go, this is the one i fel tmost immersed in feeling like i was driving around a bigg ♥♥♥ mech and killing ♥♥♥♥. IF VR had been available 5 years ago this game would have been a massive hit.

Alas, the game is dead. i jump in from time to time, but its hard finding people still playing.
Oh well. Im still going to give it a good rating because it is a fundamentaly well made game.

Very fun game and i ran it on a crappy labtop on low end graphics. i can't even imagine what the experience is like running at full spec! this is a fun SKILLED based game :3

This game is great. It looks great, plays great, sounds great, everyings great. The company behind this great game seems to be dead, probably because of the excessive amounts of microtransactions that there are, if they were cheaper and actually worth the money then maybe some more people would buy them and this game would get the attention it deserves. Despite that I do still recommend you check this game out. DON'T LET THIS GREAT WORK DIE FOR GOOD!

I played this before it came on steam. It was fun dont get me wrong but i completely forgot how pay to win it was. if you dont pay to boost your mechs with upgraded weapons and accessories you're basically useless untill you play around 50 or so hours to upgrade one mech. if you like to grind in a game at a disadvantage this is the game for you. mind you when you have a fully upgraded mech you feel kind of unstoppable, 7/10

It's epicly good. Like, really, really great ... everything. But the game is dead. It never left "early access" mode and the company behind it is in ruins. To the devs ... amazing job. To the business folks ... you have all let us down (sorry, I know you are real humans with feelings, can't win em' all).

If this game would have not imploded it would probably be the best mech game ever. Arena style at least. I still hope somebody swoops up the rights to the game and pulls it out of the ♥♥♥♥ box it's slipped into.

Definitely do not buy this game unless you 1) you are ok with it being potentially a totally dead online scene OR 2) it has been necromanced back to life by some miracle.

HAWKEN represents a blasting action, packed with some awesome original gameplay features and impressive quality of video/sound. Pretty optimized I got to admit. Genre: first person shooter (cabin camera), multiplayer only (pvp + co-op tdm and bots destruction).
Probably best game about Mechs is dying, another victim of 21st century marketing strategies we all hate (free-to-play EA title, with it's own currency and store). If you're lucky to find a full lobby, don't expect any balance between noobies and (very likely) pre-made party of vets.
I believe this game's best times passed away and we should just leave it be.

Sure it's mech, but this is what ever FPS should be. Somewhere between TF2 and CoD.

Extremely balanced gameplay with VERY diverse classes and different maps. Yes I hate some maps but at least there's variance instead of a little color-swap and minor landscape differences.

Customization! You can build your bot several different ways and paint them, even if you have to pay for appearance changes.

Yes, you can pay for content. Yes, you probably should. Because you get to choose what parts of an awesome game to unlock.

One of my current favorite games to play and the only one I've really played for a few months (other than Planetside 2). Free to play - with a great feel for movement and firing in your mech. I highly reccommend giving the game a try - and sticking with it. The player base deserves to be bigger for such a fun game - just persevere through the tricky start when you're up against good players - and you'll soon see yourself improving.

Play and have fun!

An intense, fast paced and challenging FPS like no other that puts you in the cockpit of a battle mech.

Gameplay is repetetive but fun, engaging and addictive. A comparasion I could use is CSGO as that's only got a few gamemodes and is repetetive yet the gameplay makes up for it.
The mechs are diverse and fun to use coming with unique playstyles and a real element of teamwork and dynamic between them when in action. There is also a good range of weapons specific to certain mechs that are unlocked at each stage of the players progression on that mech.
The gamemodes are also few but interesting and engaging: some objective based and some deathmatch based. Siege is like the CSGO competetive of the game in the sense that it's the biggest gamemode (And its ♥♥♥♥ing awesome). Personally I think the gameplay is a lot less repetetive than CSGO but just as unique.
Graphics and effects are fantasic yet not at all demanding and the audio is immersive coming with a chest pumping soundtrack.
However the gameplay might not be for some people- the movement system takes hours of practice and perfection even though the tutorial covers most of it. Plays have to learn how the movement system applies to their mech specifically and get a feel for the whole thing. There is a real feeling that the mechs have weight and are not super nimble and agile although this can be overcome with lighter mechs and practice. The game puts new players in a good all rounder mech that gives them a good chance when starting out though. You will still get mowed down by seasoned players though so don't give up.
Another thing I should mention is that the game has had hardly any development for ages since the game got new publishers. Everything is quite shady and it seems a little lifeless when it comes to development news and intimacy between devs and players. This is because the devs are currently working on fixing the coding due to some problems they ran into. After this they say they will work on 'polishing the performance' of the game more. They then say they will add new content after this and enter- and I quote- "launch season- that wonderful time of year when a game gets to show if how much its been training in the off-season". All the tutorials and reviews are at least 2-3 years old now. I wouldn't say the game is dead at all; I would just say it's dormant. There is a huge decline in players though- across all servers. I would say on average I only see 40 players on at a time. The only gamemodes with people on are TDM and siege- and siege is if you're lucky (people do play other gamemodes but on rare occasions).
Speaking of players and player interaction there is a distinct lack of mechanics in the game that encourage it. Push to talk is broken and the only social part of the game is a friends list and a 6 v 6 party match gamemode (nobody ever plays that gamemode though).

I have played this game for a very long time. Only recently did I start playing the game on my steam account because I found it easier to connect with friends and log my hours, etc. Overall, this game is truly a work of art. It is a Free 2 Play game that sticks with that fundamental label. You are completely allowed to buy whatever you wish with real money, but you are able to get any mech or weapon you choose just by playing the game. I haven't spent a dime on the game and I've enjoyed myself with every hour. I was invited to its alpha and it has come such a long way and continually provides me with a sense of "Pacific Rim" Mech-Style fighting just without the giant monsters popping out of nowhere. If you want to pee lightning because of how scared you are that the one ♥♥♥♥♥♥-canoe-of-a-guy that controls a Predator comes out of nowhere to end your killstreak, then this is the game for you. Happy hunting!

One of the best FTP games i've tried.

Runs great, looks great, plays great, and its free so cant hurt to try.

I just wish there were more maps, and more modes, and it seems the same tactics are used by hyperactive players to win (which includes paying for better stuff)
