About This Game

HAWKEN is a multiplayer first person shooter for PC that places you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world called Illal. With strategic, fast-paced gameplay, HAWKEN features incredible alien landscapes, customizable and upgradable mechs, and dynamic experiences across multiple competitive game modes.

HAWKEN features 6 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Co-Op Bot Destruction, Missile Assault, Siege, Deathmatch and Co-Op TDM. Each mode offers a unique gameplay experience that requires a different approach and hones a separate set of skills.

  • Team Deathmatch
Two teams of six group together and battle as a team in a race to 40 kills. Fighting as a group and knowing when to play defensively is essential to survival.

  • Co-Op Bot Destruction
Team up with three other pilots for 25 waves of increasingly intense encounters against computer controlled mechs and attack drones. Every fifth wave is led by one or more elite boss mechs that can’t be defeated alone. Move as a group, plan your attack, and spend your resources wisely to eek out a victory against all odds. Co-Op Bot Destruction is currently available on the Facility and Front Line maps, each featuring a unique set of enemies.

  • Missile Assault
Split your team of six into groups and compete over three missile silos spread across the map. Capture a silo and maintain control over it to launch missiles against the enemy team’s base ship. Control all three missile silos to do bonus damage and end the battle even sooner. Flexibility and effective use of items are the key to destroying the enemy base before they destroy yours.

  • Siege
Collect EU from two energy sources in neutral territory and return them to base to launch an attack ship at the enemy base. Fight for control over the Anti Aircraft battery in the center of the map to keep your ship from being shot down before it reaches and destroys the enemy base. There is no time limit in Siege, but every ship you launch is more powerful than the last.

  • Deathmatch
Watch your radar and be careful not to expose yourself until you have the advantage in an intense free-for-all battle. The player with the highest score after 10 minutes wins.

  • Co-Op TDM
Team up with 5 other pilots for online TDM against computer controlled mechs. If you want to jump into a match and have some fun without concerning yourself with human opponents, then this is the mode for you!

HAWKEN features a wide range of customization options that allow you to craft a unique look and equipment loadout that other players will remember.

  • Cosmetic
Strike fear in your enemies and confidence in your allies with unique trim colors & paint patterns, chassis parts, thrusters, and repair drones. Taunt defeated opponents and make your teammates laugh with comic mech emotes and deployable hologram generators. Make yourself at home in your mech by using cockpit decorations, custom HUD colors and different combinations of primary and secondary reticles!

  • Practical
Customize your play style and abilities with passive internals and deployable items. Internals take one to three of six available internal slots and range in effect from giving your mech a unique ability, such as dashing or doing a 180 spin in mid-air, to temporarily boosting damage or healing each time you gain a kill or assist. Items can serve as an additional weapon (e.g. EMPs, Grenades), a deployable piece of equipment that helps you and your teammates (e.g. Portable Scanner, Shield) or one that disrupts your enemies (e.g. Machine Gun or Rocket Turret, Radar Scrambler). Select a loadout that matches your play style to defeat your enemies quickly, support your team, or control tactically important areas of the map.

Game Guide

HAWKEN offers pilots numerous mechs in three different weight classes that fill a variety of distinct roles on the battlefield. Find the mechs that match your play style and study the strengths and weaknesses of enemy mechs in our comprehensive mech guide.

HAWKEN has numerous maps to explore. But you can’t always enjoy the scenery--or get your bearings--while boosting away from enemies. Our Map Guide includes interactive maps showing major points of interest for every game mode on every map, plus lore, screenshots, gameplay tips, and more.

Every mech starts with one primary weapon. You can purchase two additional primary weapons in the garage. You can purchase the alternate primary weapon at mech rank 3 and the prestige weapon at mech rank 5. You can swap your primary weapon in the Garage or in the Staging Area before a match or between respawns. Each mech only has one secondary weapon. They cannot be switched out for alternatives like primary weapons. However, all secondary weapons possess a special ability that provides additional functionality. Use the middle mouse button to activate that ability.

HAWKEN lets you change your equipment to customize and upgrade your mechs. You can equip a variety of useful items and deploy them in battle to gain an edge over your opponents.

HAWKEN is one of the best games I've come across. I didn't believe the reviews that claimed in was completely balanced, but from my experience it's the most balanced game I've ever played. If you get a hold of someone they will die, if they get a hold of you, well, you die. It's skill based and very addicting. I rate this game a perfect 10/10, no not really I give it an 8/10 because I still think that the customization (cosmetic) should in some aspect be able to happen without spending money.

People call this a rip off of titan fall, call of duty and other games stuff them this has got to be one of the best Mech fps's out there, it is so beautiful with its graphics and handling it lags a bit on some computers such as mine but at least when you change the graphics setting's it still looks amazing great job done to this game

65 hours on record, and the AAA-quality graphics and sound still never get old. If you're a fan of mechs this was / is one of the most visceral mech experiences out there today. It is experiencing a quiet revival with the takeover by Reloaded, so if you're a new or former player there has never been a better time to jump in.
The community is small but reviving, and mostly friendly with help.

I strongly recommend this game. It is a great FPS, and even in beta is still amazing. To top it all off, it is free so there is no reason why you shouldn't be playing HAWKEN right now!

This is a fun game. I've played it since before it was bought by Reloaded Games and have to say it has improved so much. It's a f2p done correctly and (almost) every single item is available through in-game currency. The only items that are exclusive are cosmetics. On the contrary: all the weapons/items/mechs can be either acquired through in-game or premium currency and the only difference is that the premium cuts corners in the sense that you get the weapons/items/mechs earlier It is not a pay2win game and is aesthetically pleasing. All around this is a good game

HAWKEN is one of those high quality F2P games that suffered from poor management in the beggining which ultimately stopped it from ever becoming seriously popular despite the games high quality. The main issue was that the countermeasure system used to be a PvP thing instead of strictly PvE items, which caused a lot of pay-to-win controversy. And honestly, it was. A person who payed money could then funnel all their leftover XP into countermeasures for a noticeable advantage. They eventually learned and finally removed the system from competitive PvP play, but it was too late. The damage had already been done.

The game has now unfortunately faded into another one of those obscure F2P titles that only has a couple hundred people playing at any given time. The game now stands as yet another example of how F2P with bad business models can ruin their reputation forever, regardless whether or not the problems are later fixed.

That being said, the game is still a lot of fun and filled with life. Graphics are well done, gameplay is extremely well designed, there are plenty of customization options for your mechs, and the business model is no longer pay2win. It's worth a try. Just don't expect any major competitive scene or tournaments with cash prizes on the line.

Great game, however there is a disparity between those that cheat, and those that don't. The game released free from steam recently was a beta version, and new developers since have taken over trying to capitalize on the games potential. From the start new ownership has been able to clean up the stability issues due to the neglect of the game over time, and have come up with some good progressive strategies to allow the game to gain a following with the hopes of becoming a competitive game in the 'team fps' genre in the future. The problem here is in their attempt of trying to gain new players by offering advantages to start up, they have inadvertently opened the door for past players to start new accounts thereby exploiting the advantages crushing any true new comer. More measures need to be implemented to keep the game completely fair. Without the guarantees you would get with say DOTA that the game is cheat proof, the chances of serious competitive play are slim, and even worse you would see an exit of the core players that have kept the game alive to begin with.

This game has truly changed my life.

It all began when I bought a thick, hardcover comic book from a games store. The title sounded interesting, and it had robots. After I got home, I left it on the table and took a short nap. Something began to tug at me as I slept. Something powerful. Something epic. A bright light shone through the darkness of my mind, shocking me awake. The light was coming from the kitchen. I raced into the room, shielding my eyes from the brightness. The most beautiful thing in the world shone from the table. Still partially covering my eyes with one hand, I cautiously picked it up and flipped through it. Standard comic book. Guns action, robotic ebola, etc. Pretty normal stuff. A web address on the last page jumped out at me. Literally. It leaped from the page and embedded itself in my brain. The comic book flew out of my hands, skittering across the table as I ran to boot up my computer. I punched in the url, and the website sat there before me. I basked in its glory for a moment, then signed up and punched the download button. Whatever it was, I had to have it. After about an hour of impatience and swearing at Comcast, the download was done. The standard logos flashed by, and I took no notice of them, waiting with bated breath for the great reveal. A green box popped up asking for my login. I frantically typed it in and smashed the button. Sweat poured from my brow, nearly blinding me as I waited for it to load. After a few minutes of laggy music and very nice background graphics, it was done. Tutorials? Bah. I jumped into a training match. The mech I was thrown into was small and blocky, but handled decently. The game was pretty slow on my weak store-bought desktop, but ran well enough.

For the entire duration, I was in heaven. Mechanical, high-explosive heaven with a lot of dying.

It has mecha! Giant robots that you can ride in!

They can fly!

There are special items that make it even more exciting!

After about an hour, my internet connection broke, and I had to quit. I sighed, trying to keep from exploding. It was incredible! I couldn't believe it! But wait. It gets better.

As I was sitting there basking in the glory of this incredible game, there came a loud knock at the door. I slowly opened it while mopping the sweat from my face.

I... I can't find the words to describe the situation. A gigantic machine was standing there, just like the one in the game. I realized I was dreaming, and pinched myself. I was wrong. Nearly fainting, I took a weak step forward. My puny muscles could barely raise my arm to touch the surface of the thing. The texturing was amazing; it looked real. I rubbed my eyes and touched it again. It was real! Suddenly Liam Neeson was standing next to me. I did a double-take, then saw Morgan Freeman standing on my other side. I did pass out that time. After what might have been an hour or a week the light returned to my eyes and I climbed to my feet. The world was being destroyed by other mecha, and needed me to save it. I climbed into the mech outside my door, saluted the two epic dudes standing on my porch, and stomped off into the sunset.

Has robots!
Has flying robots!
Is free!
Has giant guns on the robots!
The visuals are incredible.
Did I mention that the robots can fly?

Would be perfect if it had a double rainbow!
Needs more famous actors
Needs better optimization for lower end machines
Needs a warning label to warn geeks like me about possible spontaneous combustion from AWESOME OVERLOAD

Overall rating: 17.3/10
Amazing! I would pay all the money for it if it had a double rainbow and better optimization.

Hawken. A Review. Finally.

I started playing Hawken about an hour ago and I have to say, initial impressions are... somewhat good.

The tutorial missions are utter crap, they are slow paced and go over things you already know. "Walk over here using the WASD keys", "Use the left mouse button to fire at the target!" Now this maybe good for people who are new to FPS games but in today's society I highly doubt that anyone would need the information due to the common sense that game developers have when creating a control scheme (GTA V is an exception because the controls in that are utterly disastrous). Another complaint is that it shows you how to use an ability that you can't even access in the multiplayer! With Titanfall for example you are asked to use the warp wall thing and then you are able to use it in a multiplayer session straight away! I was stood there in open ground continuously hammering the 1 key to try and deploy my shield. Subsequently I died.

Online. having played quite a few games on multiplayer initial impressions were good! People were crap, everyone bar me seemed to be on low health, things were looking up! Until a few games later I got stuck with the worst team imaginable and the other team seemed to be completely OP and impervious to bullets. This is when it crossed mind. "Is there actually any ranked match making?"

Graphics: Good, nice for a free game.
Gameplay: Depends on who you ask, I would say it needs to be worked on.
The mechs themselves: Need to have a new skin designed for them, even on ultra settings they look plain and simple.
The HUD: Too cluttered IMO
Too many bloody "Pay for this Item", "Pay for this God damn mother trucking item!" options.

Can't complain however, it was free after all.
6/7 out of 10
Not my cup of tea.

I used to recommend this mostly team-based game to anyone, but now it's riddled with players who do not try to do objectives or help their teammates out. This isn't a game where a player can be an all-star and save the day. Teams win by teamwork and lose horribly when they do not. It is really a shame because this game can be awesome when people are trying to be team players.

It also doesn't help that the game doesn't reward teamwork enough. A prime example would be the lack of points awarded to players for assists. right now killstealing rewards players more points than doing most of the damaging but only getting an assist.

When you are lucky enough get in a match where both teams are trying to do the objectives, it is very fun regardless of who wins. However, most games end up being complete landslides because 1 team is working together and trying to do the objectives and the other team (save 1 or 2 players) are avoiding doing any team-related actions such as capturing and holding points, collecting and returning energy units to home base to launch our ships, or even helping each other in firefights.

Players not trying to help their team or trying to complete objectives makes no sense. Playing with such stupidity is absolutely zero fun. I hope the new development team can tweak/balance Hawken to encourage and reward teamwork.

I would also like to add that cheating is and has been a problem since around the time Hawken arrived on Steam. Mostly wallhackers but I've seen blatant use of aimbots as well. When Adhesive was doing well, they were active with banning cheaters. Now it goes unchecked.

Here are recent videos of hackers:

First thing I want to say is for anyone wondering about buying this game, don't listen to the negative reviews saying it has been abandoned, it was at the time those reviews were written, but not anymore.

Anyway, I don't really have much to say, this game is just a great time, super fun, looks great and it's even better with friends. It's like having a w*nk at a party.

Very fun game to play, lots of mechs to choose from, graphics are great and its F2P. Occasional issues with balance, takes a while to save up for new mechs which is not an issue but if you end up disliking it...well there goes 5-10 hours of work. Sometimes I feel certain mechs dont have weapon upgrades that are worth the credits. Other than that what a superb game.
