About This Game

HAWKEN is a multiplayer first person shooter for PC that places you inside a mechanized war machine on the battlefield of a dystopian world called Illal. With strategic, fast-paced gameplay, HAWKEN features incredible alien landscapes, customizable and upgradable mechs, and dynamic experiences across multiple competitive game modes.

HAWKEN features 6 game modes: Team Deathmatch, Co-Op Bot Destruction, Missile Assault, Siege, Deathmatch and Co-Op TDM. Each mode offers a unique gameplay experience that requires a different approach and hones a separate set of skills.

  • Team Deathmatch
Two teams of six group together and battle as a team in a race to 40 kills. Fighting as a group and knowing when to play defensively is essential to survival.

  • Co-Op Bot Destruction
Team up with three other pilots for 25 waves of increasingly intense encounters against computer controlled mechs and attack drones. Every fifth wave is led by one or more elite boss mechs that can’t be defeated alone. Move as a group, plan your attack, and spend your resources wisely to eek out a victory against all odds. Co-Op Bot Destruction is currently available on the Facility and Front Line maps, each featuring a unique set of enemies.

  • Missile Assault
Split your team of six into groups and compete over three missile silos spread across the map. Capture a silo and maintain control over it to launch missiles against the enemy team’s base ship. Control all three missile silos to do bonus damage and end the battle even sooner. Flexibility and effective use of items are the key to destroying the enemy base before they destroy yours.

  • Siege
Collect EU from two energy sources in neutral territory and return them to base to launch an attack ship at the enemy base. Fight for control over the Anti Aircraft battery in the center of the map to keep your ship from being shot down before it reaches and destroys the enemy base. There is no time limit in Siege, but every ship you launch is more powerful than the last.

  • Deathmatch
Watch your radar and be careful not to expose yourself until you have the advantage in an intense free-for-all battle. The player with the highest score after 10 minutes wins.

  • Co-Op TDM
Team up with 5 other pilots for online TDM against computer controlled mechs. If you want to jump into a match and have some fun without concerning yourself with human opponents, then this is the mode for you!

HAWKEN features a wide range of customization options that allow you to craft a unique look and equipment loadout that other players will remember.

  • Cosmetic
Strike fear in your enemies and confidence in your allies with unique trim colors & paint patterns, chassis parts, thrusters, and repair drones. Taunt defeated opponents and make your teammates laugh with comic mech emotes and deployable hologram generators. Make yourself at home in your mech by using cockpit decorations, custom HUD colors and different combinations of primary and secondary reticles!

  • Practical
Customize your play style and abilities with passive internals and deployable items. Internals take one to three of six available internal slots and range in effect from giving your mech a unique ability, such as dashing or doing a 180 spin in mid-air, to temporarily boosting damage or healing each time you gain a kill or assist. Items can serve as an additional weapon (e.g. EMPs, Grenades), a deployable piece of equipment that helps you and your teammates (e.g. Portable Scanner, Shield) or one that disrupts your enemies (e.g. Machine Gun or Rocket Turret, Radar Scrambler). Select a loadout that matches your play style to defeat your enemies quickly, support your team, or control tactically important areas of the map.

Game Guide

HAWKEN offers pilots numerous mechs in three different weight classes that fill a variety of distinct roles on the battlefield. Find the mechs that match your play style and study the strengths and weaknesses of enemy mechs in our comprehensive mech guide.
www.playhawken.com/game-guide/mechs

HAWKEN has numerous maps to explore. But you can’t always enjoy the scenery--or get your bearings--while boosting away from enemies. Our Map Guide includes interactive maps showing major points of interest for every game mode on every map, plus lore, screenshots, gameplay tips, and more.
www.playhawken.com/game-guide/maps

Every mech starts with one primary weapon. You can purchase two additional primary weapons in the garage. You can purchase the alternate primary weapon at mech rank 3 and the prestige weapon at mech rank 5. You can swap your primary weapon in the Garage or in the Staging Area before a match or between respawns. Each mech only has one secondary weapon. They cannot be switched out for alternatives like primary weapons. However, all secondary weapons possess a special ability that provides additional functionality. Use the middle mouse button to activate that ability.

HAWKEN lets you change your equipment to customize and upgrade your mechs. You can equip a variety of useful items and deploy them in battle to gain an edge over your opponents.

This was a very well ballanced and fun game but it seems to be abandoned now. The servers are in bad shape aside from team death match on USA. The friend system has collapsed and no word from the makers for a few months now.

was a good game but ~___~ not so much now

With 390-ish (I play it without STEAM Client sometimes though) Hours on the clock, I thought It'd be time to write a review.

I usually don't like multiplayer Arenashooter FPS's, but I just can't seem to get enough of this game... It is wonderfully balanced, not pay to win, has a nice Artstyle, and a community that doesn't consist of ♥♥♥♥♥. (for the most part anyway)

Nothing gets your blood pumping faster than not playing for a week, joining a Deathmatch and realizing that you've completely forgotten how to effektively maneuver your Mech...
(Bruiser in my case. It's one of my fave bots, but bloody hell does it fell unresponsive :D )

GG WP ; 10 outta 10 would fuzzy bunny again.

The game is rather stagnant and dead at the moment as the developers are busy porting and transfering their servers to a new system. To play this game, you pretty much have to learn to adapt to a new style of playing different from that of a conventional first person shooter(Battlefield, Call of Duty etc.)

Overall, a real eye-opener as to what mechanical first person shooter games are capable of - fast paced action, explosive weapons etc. It offers a wide array of machines(we call them "Mechs") that are each suited for a different role, hence it does up open up for many different play styles to be incorporated.

First off I'm going to say I played alot of this when it was not on steam. This game is by far one of my most favorite games, although taxing on your computer its worth it.

The game opens with a fairly explanatory traning mission which is fairly easy to pass through. After you do the training it opens up every thing else. I have played all gamemode to be fun and fair no matter how long you have played OR if you have payed money. The graphics are wonderful for a F2P game and supports decent team play and partys. After playing many games i stll come back. Fantastic game wirth trying. ITS FREE!

+Fast paced, adrenaline fueled mech action
+All mechs, (including the starter) are incredibly well balanced
+Awesomely immersive cockpit view/hud makes you feel like you're in the actual mech (occulus rift when??)
+Neat cyberpunk vibe
+Cool mech designs add personality to each machine
+While it's no armored core, it has pretty good mech customization options earned through microtransactions or experience
+Breathtaking visuals
+not pay to win
-free currency is a bit of a grind, may take a while before you can afford the mech/upgrade you want

To sum it up:

Best mech shooter you can get for free, currently.

Sick game, controls are easy to pick up and the learning curve isnt insane (new players can come in and get kills right away). Matches are short and sweet but I wish there were more game options, has the usual deathmatch, team deathmatch, and domination game modes with a really cool twist on a modified capture the flag option but not much beyond that. Co-op has 2 modes, would love to see more developed there. Good frantic paced, mech blasting fun.

Hawken is a great game, especially for lan parties. Good combat system and a relatively active community make this great for casual gaming or competitive, though the match making system can be brain dead at times. I could be wrong, but it doesn't appear as though the game takes into consideration level or preferred mech when matching players up which can lead to some very unbalanced matches. The system also doesn't take into consideration the size of a map, so a game with only four players can get one of the largest maps. One more gripe is the developers haven't put too many updates since release so you get that sinking feeling that you're playing an incomplete game. If you're willing to overlook these shortcomings, Hawken is a great game that is underrated both by the gaming community but more importantly the developers.

Hawken is set in a multifuturistic world of indefinite war. Suprisingly the humans are fighting in what seems like metal boxes with legs... Not exactly. These "Mechs" as people would call them, are alot stronger than you think! And as more mechs roll in, what is to come of earth? robots attacking? Other humans competing to destory each other's towers? What planet are they even on? There are hundreds of questions, but one stands out of all of them. "What will you do with YOUR mech?" Fight? Make Peace? Or Even Just use it's bigass guns to blast a hole in something. Just to say this game is DEFINITELY WHAT YOU WANT TO PLAY. And exciting feel to every match, and squads of mechs fighting over one mission. To be the best of them all. Will you join us?

It's fun for a couple matches just to screw around but you'll quickly realize there's zero disguise about the pay-to-win. Want a new mech? 16 hours of gameplay for a mid-tier, if you're really good. Want to switch weapons? Buy that too, for just a little less than a whole new mech. Every single piece of equipment and mods have to be earned VERY slowly or bought.

Very restricted weapons and customization

HORRIBLE matchmaking system, just absolutely horrible in every regard

Pilot level means nothing because you have to also buy everything you unlock. Your reward for progression is the chance to spend ingame currency for upgrades that you could already just buy with real cash.

Game blance is skewed and washy at best
