7.4 "Mega Content Patch" update is here!

7.4 was just made available to all players. It has a ton of new content, improvements, and fixes.

New Levels

This is Fort. It's a throwback to the classic Mario Kart 64 multiplayer level Block Fort, remade and optimized for Disco Dodgeball. The one big difference is there's a route onto the forts from near the middle, and of course the addition of glowy LED lights. It adds a lot of verticality to the combat and confers a great advantage to those able to maintain the high ground. It's particularly good for objective-based modes like Capture The Cube.

This is Aquarium, and is a level created by the player SerialHugger (thanks!!). It involves a single walkway connecting the two spawns, some curved ramps leading to a lower fish observation area and some higher side walkways as well. It's very open and rewards those with good long range timing & accuracy.

New Modes

Elimination Hoops

A hybrid of two classic modes. To win a round, either score a single hoop or eliminate the entire enemy team. The first team or FFA player to the target number of round victories will win the match. It's an intense mode that requires the right balance of caution and aggressiveness, and players will need to use their intuition to know when is the right time to go for the goal.

Bonus Ball

This is Deathmatch with a Super Ball twist. Most KOs count for one point, but KOs with the golden ball are worth 5. Additionally, players can toss the Super Ball through the hoop for a bonus 5 points.

Score Hunter

Similar to Headhunter, this is an Elimination variant where the winner is determined by reaching a particular Score. Rounds will continue until the score target is reached. It forces players to abandon their cautious Elimination strategy and go all-out. But of course, acting too bold can easily get you eliminated as well.

New Features

  • You can now choose the team setting 'Random', which will shuffle between 2 Team and FFA modes.
  • You can now choose the mode setting 'Random + Expert', which will select a random mode including the more complex Expert modes. A good way to add some variety to your rooms if you've been playing for a while and are comfortable with advanced rule sets.

New Custom Mode rule options

  • Allow Time Limit Options (makes default time limit options appear in match settings)
  • Score Limit Option (displays specified score limit option in match settings)
  • Round Victory Limit Option (same, with round victories)
  • Time Limit Option (same, with time limits)
  • DefaultRoundVictoryLimit2P...12P (specifies default round victory limit based on number of players if mode is rotated to via Random mode settings)
  • UseCumulativeScore (makes match victory dependent on sum of round scores, useful when making elimination hybrid modes like Headhunter

Adjustments / Improvements / Fixes
  • Attrition and Headhunter are now part of the Classic modes, so they'll pop up during default random mode rotation
  • Grand Prix removed from Classic modes, is now part of Expert modes
  • Headhunter is now FFA only
  • Nerfed homing ball strength
  • Homing on friendly target is much stronger
  • Increased aim proximity requirement for selecting friendy player as homing target
  • Pooled some 3D score text objects and Kill Log items to prevent frame hiccups
  • Added new cylinder mesh to Capture Point to increase visibility (especially when particles are turned off in video settings)
  • Removed lock-on that prevents homing target from changing after reaching certain charge threshold
  • Checkpoints new cylinder mesh, and do a better job of fading in and out
  • Removed extraneous ‘First to 1’ header text in Hunter v Hunted and Hoop Defense modes
  • Fixed random Elimination FFA matches not using the correct round victory limit (3)
  • Fixed Kart Race summing all participants’ scores instead of using leader score
  • Match Settings will load default score limit when changing game mode even if that new mode has a score limit option that matches the currently loaded limit (prevening things like inadvertently setting a Hoops match to 100 if switching from a Super Ball match with limit 100)
  • Fixed switching teams making you ineligible to vote on match settings
  • Bots can prioritize the Super Ball if a KO with it is worth more points
  • Fixed admin Kick function kicking all players in room
  • Team / FFA rule is incorporated into main score subtitle (e.g. “Team Deathmatch”)
  • Headhunter has match score limit (via useCumulativeScore), not a set number of rounds
  • Added hard limit of 18 for maxTeamPlayers custom rule
  • Announcer Says ‘round won’ when you complete an arcade level
  • Fixed bot lighting in Chasm
  • Fixed jetpack particles on Bots not synching to clients
  • Fixed error in sometimes initializing perk progress items before stats were downloaded, resulting in extraneous progress notifications
  • Fixed VO clips sometimes overlapping
  • Better prioritization of VO clips - multiKill > rare trick shots > rampage > on Fire > extinguish > 4+ streak > random taunt > common trick shots > 2+ streak
  • Easy Bots speed restriction is now overridden by Behavior Zones, allowing them to jump across gaps
  • Fixed inventory display counts not updating when returning to inventory after crafting
  • Fixed hyphens being disallowed in player names

Special thanks to all the players who've been participating in the forums and provided the feedback necessary to catch & fix all these issues.

Enjoy the new modes & maps! As always, feedback is welcome on the forums.

First Announcer Pack available from workshop!

A short time ago I added support for custom announcer packs. Now, the first one has been completed and is a highly recommended (and free) download! It's by Videogre and here's the preview video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WURBUbrEP8M

It's very simple to add to your game - just go to its workshop item page (below), click Subscribe, then next time you launch the game you'll have it available to select within Options / Audio / Announcer:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=730417152

If you want to submit your own pack, it's straightforward and the instructions are in this guide:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=425217999

(Friendly reminder that copyrighted material is prohibited)

I'm also very close to releasing version 7.4 which is a huge content patch including many new game modes & two new levels. Will post another announcement when that's ready!

Plenty of gamemodes, good game mechanics, and lots of content make for a deeper experience than I originally thought I would get. Online multiplayer works well with good connection, and there are usually at least a few servers up and running. Arcade mode and offline with bots is actually very fun and provides that perfect ping experience that can't be found online and provides good practice for online as well.

The game can get a little buggy sometimes. Also, catching the ball is a bit hard to do and it takes a little bit of time to understand the physics of the game. But, this provides a nice skill gap in the game, even though it is possible to be rather lucky with throws in the game. The game is very fun and you will have fun whether you are skilled or not.

Overall, this game is very fun and the in-game music makes it that much better. $8 is a very reasonable price for the game. Would recommend for the good music and fun gameplay.

This is a really fun game, however I have seen several hackers/cheaters in the past few hours which completely ruins the fun. With no kick/ban option available in game, theres no point in playing. Don't bother getting it unless you want to die repeatedly to hackers or you want to join them and watch insta kills go back and forth.

So my friend and I were debating on whether or not to buy this game. I mean, yeah it's only $8 but we were a little strapped at the time. It looked fun, though, which is why we were hesitant.
My friend decided to bite the bullet--he is the one with the better job, after all. I had to go handle my dog, so I was gone for the moment he downloaded it, but I saw the result. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before in my life.
He used to be a fairly heavyset guy with pimples all over his face and an awkward demeanor; not unlike myself, though more so I suppose. The man I walked into that day was different. I saw a 6'3'' bronzed warrior with perfect facial hair and a gleam in his eye that could make any lady drop at his feet. His phone immediately started going wild with notifications about the millions being depositied into his brand-new Cayman Island account. At that moment, I knew what I had to do.
I powered up my crappy laptop, barely even meeting the specs, and told Steam to install this game.
At once I could feel my crotch bulging as I grew three whole feet in as many seconds. The scruffy excuse I had for a beard was replaced with a layer of hair so glorious Zeus himself was jealous as I also grew six inches taller. I wasn't a large man before, but any semblance of being out of shape melted away from my frame like butter in an oven and my muscles gained glory I'd only dreamed of before. Even my dog, who'd only been a pug before, now stood proudly by my side as a German Shepard-Husky mix while a beautiful woman appeared in my arms, who is now my wife. Behind my friend, I saw the ghost of Genghis Khan nod in approval.
We played for a little afterward for giggles. That was fun too.

The concept of this game is great, but the gameplay itself feels very clunky and broken.

- Catching doesn't seem to be viable, especially when people have bad ping.
- Ping above the 60-70 range causes major teleporting and skipping dodgeballs.
- Balls that don't look like they're supposed to hit end up hitting more often than ones that are perfectly aimed.
- Ricochet hits seem to hit more often in a situation like my third point.
- The homing power up is very broken considering that catching doesn't seem to work as much as it should in multiplayer.
- Getting stuck in certain corner areas leaves you open as a free kill.
- Gameplay is not as smooth as the trailers and bad latency affects gameplay immensely.

TL;DR - Bad netcode makes this game very unenjoyable.

A little diamond in the rough, definitely worth picking up. Sort of like Rocket League with robots. Better choice than Supraball, that's for sure.

This game is fantastic.

It is a trippy FPS style game where you play a robot on a single wheel (so the movement is purposefully floaty) and you play dodgeball in a crazy discotech with awesome music and cool light effects.

There is few community, mainly because I don't think people really remember to play this game, not because its boring or bad. I have a blast whenever I play, or until I ragequit from arcade mode. =P

Anyways, pick it up on a sale to give it a try, or better yet, grab a four pack so we can get some more people in there to play this fun game!

This game, like One Finger Death Punch, does only a few things. But it does these things amazingly well.
It's a blast to slide around at high speed dodging balls whilst rocking out to the amazing music that the game has.
The slow-mo adds a nice punch to your throw and the game doesn't shy away from buffeting you with a barrage of dodgeables. It's simple (not mindless mind you) fun, I wouldn't play it for more than 30 minutes a time but the online multiplayer only takes mere seconds for you to connect, and provides a fun and chaotic environment for you to kick some ♥♥♥. If you're into high-speed skill based games, this is definitely a game for you. But keep those last words in mind, you stop moving, and you'll die.

You know what, this is a great game and I wish I played it more often than I do.

It's one of those games that is ridiculously fun to play with people. The AI is boring and so therefore it's not a game to play with by yourself. With a group of friends, you guys will have a blast. There is a variety of game modes, such as a basketball like mode or a mode where you need to hang on to a certain ball for a certain amount of time first, but death match is just where the real fun and this game's strong point is.

There is a lot of powerups, there is great player customization, and there is (for some reason) item drops you can use to sell, trade, or create cosmetic stuff with. No, I mean like legit actual items, like steam item drops. Weird for an obscure indie game to implement that feature, isn't it? Granted, 16 of my friends already have this game, so I suppose it isn't too obscure. Regardless, if you are looking for a game with some meat on it for a decent price even outside of a sale, you found it.

The gameplay is fast paced, it's fun, it's simple, it's just good. There is only negative experiences I've had, such as people catching my shots from ridiculous distances from them, that I feel had more to do with connection issues (my friends are all ♥♥♥♥ing europeons for some reason, damn foriegners). However, I do notice the ball can still be caught even after hitting a wall or the ground, which I think is unfair and unnecessary. The game could have more content if the developer had the desire to add anymore I feel, but I think the asking price is still fair for what you're getting. So don't think to hesitate.

7/10

Pros-
Good fast & simple gameplay
Fairly unique take on the genre
Good enough amount of variety

Cons-
I feel the game could have more content such as more maps and the likes, maybe even the ability for users to make their own maps.
I feel sometimes that catching is ridiculous, especially when it has already hit the ground.
AI sucks real hard and online isn't overwhelmingly active, you will need friends.

I got this game from someone just giving me a Steam key for free, and, to tell you the truth, this game is friggin' amazing.
An arena-like team FPS game... based around dodgeball. And I don't have to get hurt? Nice!
With a title as ridiculous and crazy as ROBOT ROLLER-DERBY DISCO DODGEBALL, it certainly lives up to it. Even without playing the online mode, the local multiplayer and the arcade mode are still a blast! Fast, frenetic, crazy and just plain fun!
Oh, and you can use your own custom music! (Just make sure that your files are in either .ogg or .wav format.) So go ahead, put some Ridge Racer music and have fun!

If the title sounds awesome to you, get it. It's a great little arena shooter that at it's heart feels like Quake Live on LSD.

In most cases, you want someone who has a large number of hours playing a game to give a review. In the case of this game, that isn't needed. WIthing 10 hours, everybody knows if they like this game or not. Except that EVERYBODY loves this game. Play it once and you'll be addicted as you zoom around, dodging balls, making awesome throws, rocking out to music, and so much more. The game is constantly updated- an amazing task for such a simple game - and allows for there to be Workshop items to be constantly downloaded and used. Overall the game is great. But after a few games, you run into a problem-- very few people play this game as a whole, and they are further divided by location around the world. While this can put a damper on some round, when everybody leaves and you're stuck with some OP bots, it has its upsides. As you get to play more, you see certain players more often and start to build teams with random people and even learn play style. So, even with its faults, it is an amazing game, everyone should play at least once.

As its name suggests, Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball (what a descriptive title!) is a game where you control robots playing dodgeball in a disco nightclub. What's not to love?

This game is fun, fast-paced, and skill-based. You WILL have a blast rolling around the disco while trying to nail your opponents with the ball and dodging their throws. Perhaps most impressive for this sort of game is that there truly is enough content to justify the game's price. There are multiple singleplayer modes, including the addicting arcade mode that pits you against wave after wave of opponents. However, the game was designed first and foremost as a multiplayer "shooter," and the multiplayer is a blast. The game's community is relatively small, but it's large enough that I never have any trouble finding several games going on in my region (East Coast USA).

Overall, this is simple, silly fun, but there's certainly more than enough variety, challenge, and depth to justify paying the full price. I got this in a Humble Bundle and didn't expect much, but Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball is a diamond in the rough.
