Took roughly 1.5 hours and... well, I can safely say it has been the most 'indie' game related experience I've had this year.

Seriously, black and white claymation musical dialogue-tree adventure game about a transgender inventor turned private detective investigating Auto-Tune usage in music industry? That's as far from dudebro shooter as you can go in gaming I think.
Not sure if it's actually worth of your or anyone's time. If you like experimental 'games', maybe. Don't expect too much though.

Also, as weird as that sounds when talking about a musical game, the singing was uniformly terrible.

Wish I could recommend this game as the art style is very unique, and the game is a decent adventure to play through once -- but the big gimmick in this game is that just about every second line of dialogue is sung... and it is absolutely horrible to listen to.

Sad that they couldn't get people who actually can SING to do the voices. The performances range from awkward to painful.

Dominique Pamplemousse, what a strange game (and title!).

The game felt more like a musical than an actual game. There was very little input on my part while playing, most of my time was spent listening to some off-key singing. The visuals are probably the game's strongest point. All of the characters are made of clay and the animation is in a stop motion format, which is kinda cool, but not enough to make up for the gameplay. The game's story is not that interesting either. It's not a bad story, but it's far from a good one.

So that trailer looks pretty cool right? Well you're probably alright stopping there. Not to jump on the negative review train; the game is a pretty harmless and innocent hour and a half with nothing egregious, but what's in the trailer is pretty much all there is to the game, albeit with a predictable detective story tacked on.

First off let me just list off why the game intrigued me enough for an impulse buy, so we can compare expectations and see if the game actually lives up to them. I bought this game because:

-it's a musical
-it's claymation
-its themes include gender, which is particularly tender and interesting to me
-it apparently did well in IGF nominations
-it's only an hour and a half long, which for someone with a massive backlog is actually an incentive

Now that I've played it, my positives are:

-it's one continuous musical adventure, with each screen change being accompanied by new music. The vamp technology
leading into each character's singing parts isn't perfect but is cool nonetheless.
-it has a lot of trombone

...And that's about it. Let's break this down further.

The musical element is the game's most unique and as mentioned above, works well enough. I don't actually have a huge problem with the "grating" voices: to me it along with the point and click mechanics create somewhat of a nostalgic experience. It really feels like a stage show, which is neat. At the same time, there's nothing particularly complex about the compositions, and the game doesn't really embrace the "musical" idea fully, it's just kinda there.

The claymation is very crude and pretty much a gimmick. It's very low resolution assests with no graphic options to speak of.

The gender theme isn't near as prominent as I expected and rather forced, thankfully it's not offensive but it's also not trailblazing.

As far as gameplay goes there's very little to speak of, just exhausting dialogue options. This isn't inherently bad, there are great games like Attack of the Friday Monsters that use this so as to not feel gamey or proprietary in any way. But that's the thing, you'll still be navigating basic menus for most of it so the fact that this is a very shallow, simple game will always be in the forefront of your mind. That said, it is simple enough for anyone to play and you won't get frustrated or stuck.

The story is the primary focus of the game, and it's pretty disposable. For one it's indulgent; you're thrown in with little context and immediately expected to care about the characters with no concept to guide the experience. The game constantly repeats information you've just heard back to you. It's pretty humorless; there are bits of overdone social commentary here and there that are really random and don't fit in with anything else: this is unfortunately the extent of the game's themes. And in general it's all pretty incidental, with a lack of finese to the storytelling, and it's just not at all cohesive! For all its twists and turns it never does anything unseen in other point and clicks or noir. The ending at least had potential to satisfy and bowtie all the elements but it feels unfinished, like the last 15 minutes are part of a different game.

So yeah in the end it's just kinda boring, you know? It's one of those cases where you have to take a step back and realize that just because it's cool as a trailer doesn't mean it'll be cool as a game, especially since it never explores any of its enticing elements. Still, on sale for a quick runthrough you can do a lot worse.

Stop to imagine a world where it's possible to see something so visually offensive, that it actually hurts you physically. This game attacked my every sense, throwing my brain into a DBZ-like battle. Except my brain was Krillin and the game itself was all of the major villains fused together. I became ill while playing this game, so much that I had to go watch The Lion King and wonder what I was doing with my life.

This game is not good. I don't think I've ever wanted to remove my hard drive and wash it with soap after playing a videogame before.

A short little musical adventure, with some surprisingly deep commentary and many layers. The claymation is raw and some of the voices work better than others (Prudence and Casey are my favourites), but it is an extremely impressive line-up for coming from just one voice actor/singer/musician.

I enjoy the off-hand jokes, the quirky dialogue, the tunes and the extreme meta-ness of a musical game commenting on auto-tune.

the ending features one of my favourite "get out of jail" puzzles of all time! *Bleeert*

At one and a half hour, it provides a short, quirky and fun romp, that might leave you with more philosphical questions than you assumed going in.
It's also a well-written who-done-it - the game is very aware of its own short-cuts, and doesn't take itself too seriously.

- Happy original IndieGogo backer. :)

Dominique Pamplemouse is a musical point and click adventure game done in a bizarre claymation style. It's a detective story that is driven by dialog, a lot of which is sung. I thought the singing was bad, but self-aware and confident, and that added to the experience or sort of a weird interactive cabaret made up of clay dolls. I really liked that it dealt with LGBT themes, and this is the first video game I've bought that had an openly queer main character. This game has me hopeful that characters such as Dominique might reach more mainstream gaming someday. The game's biggest strength is its sincerity and its weirdness. I beat it in one sitting of an hour and a half. Recommended if you want a really niche indie game completely unlike anything else Steam has to offer.

I really tried to like this but by the time the 15th off-key singing verse was used to reveal even the smallest bit of useless info, I just couldn't take it anymore.

I absolutely adore showtunes. My CD collection is almost entirely made up of Broadway cast recordings. I also like to play video games. A musical video game sounded like a great concept, and it still does. This is hardly a musical, though, because there aren't any real songs. There's dialogue that's written in rhyme and just happens to be sung. There are no melodies, and that's the joke. And this joke becomes very grating very quickly. There's only so much off-key singing you can take!

The story isn't very interesting. Trying to solve the mystery will pose a slight challenge, but you'll still get through it in about an hour and it wont have any lasting impact on you. There's no replay value unless you really think the game's funny, and personally, I do not. There are a few funny jokes, but it's not nearly on the level of The Stanley Parable or even Octodad.

This is the video game equivalent of amaeteur musical theater. Whether that's good or bad totally depends on your tastes, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

It's weird as hell, it features Jay-Z-ish autotuned interludes, and it's about an hour long. If that sounds good to you, then this is your game.

Hard to say yes or no, it's right smack in the middle for me, but one thing did make it worth it: Some of the singing reminded me of Chyi Yu's Dande Voy, which is always worth listening to.

This is a great game! It's pretty short, but i enjoyed every minute of it and the slightly rough presentation doesn't get in the way at all (i love it, personally). It's got a lot of heart and character. The story's good, and although you can probably see some things coming, there's a bunch of unexpected twists, too. It never gets boring.

The interface is good. There's no pixel hunting, background objects have interesting and funny descriptions (all voice acted), and exhausted dialogue options are marked, so you'll never accidentally repeat a line of questioning if you don't want to. Also, the game keeps track of what Dominique knows, so you won't forget anything important. Sometimes in conversations it's not immediately obvious if someone's done talking or if they're waiting on a cue to sing (they have to wait to sync with the music), but it's not a big problem; you never have to wait for very long. At worst i was happily surprised when someone suddenly burst into song =)

The puzzles are logical and mostly pretty easy to figure out, but they're not really the focus of the game. Play it for the atmosphere, the humor, the story and the music.

It's a unique game, and you shouldn't miss it. Highly recommended!
