Update v0.8.3: Latency Calibration and Smooth Scrolling

Update v0.8.3: Latency Calibration and Smooth Scrolling

Changes
  • The camera's (and Melody's) position in time is now based on a smoothed high-resolution timer instead of directly using the playhead position of the music, preventing "choppy" scrolling if the audio driver doesn't allow per-frame precise reading of the track's position.
  • Added an Audio and Video Latency Calibration menu (and test) in the options. You can now fine-tune latency compensation if you are playing on a HDTV or with a delay-inducing sound card (please note that delay compensation will make Melody either pause or "skip" at the beginning of a track).
  • Added an option to switch the art of light orbs to a full circle instead of a partial one (in the "General" options menu)
  • Fixed an issue with the tempo dection algorithm when using a non-MP3 format (FLAC, OGG, etc.) that in some rare occurences might have resulted in problems detecting the correct tempo. All previously "cached" tracks will be re-analyzed once played again.
  • Amplified the default volume of "orbs" and "obstacles" sucess sound effects in "All Sounds" mode.
  • Added a gamepad option to select the desired gamepad device ID (this is useful if you have more than one connected or on some Linux systems where some mouses and keyboards are detected as gaming devices)
  • Fixed a crash when trying to load custom Mods with an invalid folder structure.
  • Failing to read a specific sub-folder due to permission issues should not result into an empty folder list anymore.
  • Updated the FNA framework on OSX and Linux (this should improve performances)

Early Access Review
As a big fan of rhythm games, I really enjoy playing Melody's Escape.

Pros:
+Songs are tracked within seconds
+Each song delivers a different and unique track (endless replayablity)
+Fairly easy to pick up and once you get the hang of the controls it is very enjoyable
+Very slick, sweet art style and effects

Cons:
-Some songs do not track as well as others. This is saddening if you're a big fan of death metal such as myself since most of these songs track poorly, except Rings of Saturn for some odd reason... (If a song says it has no steady tempo detected, the track quality is not that great)
-An option to edit and upload tracks would be nice, especially for the afformentioned poorly tracked songs that could potentially be made into really good tracks.

There is a lot of fun to be had here and I would recommend you pick this game up if you are a fan of rythm games like I am.

Yo, so you remember Audiosurf? Beat Hazard? Course you do. In this game instead of being some fancy space ship you're this chick Melody who digs the tunes y'know... Anyway you pick a song from your lousy playlist (cuz we all know everyone's taste in music is awful), and the game generates a random track for Melody to run through (while you're controlling her of course)... I dig it, Always liked Audiosurf/Beat Hazard or any other game in which I pick a song and get to have something happen based on the song while I listen to it.

Uh... What else is there to say... OH YEAH.. DON'T FREAKING PLAY DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS, YOU WILL CRY!

Tried to play a remake of "At Doom's Gate" from DOOM...
Welp, from those three dots you can basically tell how painful it was for me to finish it.

Probably the best rhythm game I've played so far. Melody's Escape takes such an innovative approach to rhythm game genre. It combines music, speed, action, characterization, and beauty into one. Join Melody, a character customizable to your taste through either basic customization or workshop mods, as she ventures through the rhythmic paths your music creates. Melody's Escape will enrinch your experience of enjoying your very own choice of music. The fact that the game depends on your music library means it can provide limitless variety of gameplay. Some people have pointed out that the game causes eye strain and the music synchronization can sometimes be a bit off. However, there now exists an option in the game that gets rid of the aspect that causes the eye strain, and the music synchronization in my opinion has now become very stable to the point where it works almost perfectly for most of the music choices. Not to mention that the developer has been adding a variety of options that enables us to really customize the gameplay experience to our preference. Therefore, I can say that the game is as good as complete at this point without many cons and the Early Access tag shouldn't bother anyone at all.
