Wat de ontwikkelaars zeggen:

“Melody's Escape is almost feature-complete and is in a very stable state.
During this Early Access period I will focus on polishing the gameplay and aesthetics, and with the help of the community's feedback I will add more features to the game.
The game will also be ported to Mac and Linux, and will get more skins, hair styles and color palettes, as well as a Workshop integration to share your own custom content with the world!

Please note that there is no bundled music yet, so you will need digital music files on your disk to play the game.

Your feedback is very important and welcomed! :) - Loïc

Update v0.7.4: New skin & haircuts + a mod editor

Patch update v0.7.4.0: New skin & haircuts + mod editor

Major Changes
  • Added a mod editor/studio. You can now very easilly create your own skins, hairstyles and color themes and edit them all in real-time (Windows only).
  • Added "slow-mo" jumps in running sections, for very specific occurences where the music's energy drastically drops during a few seconds. Those jumps can be identified on the song preview graph by a blue vertical dashed line (note that they are quite rare and mostly found in electro music)
  • Added new hairstyles: "Long Twin Tails", "Short" and "Braided Ponytail"
  • Added new skin: "White Dress"
  • Added new color scheme: "Dark"

Modding Changes
  • You can access the new Mod Editor in the game's installation folder, under the name "ModStudio.exe". I will soon write a tutorial on how to use this tool, but it should be quite simple to grasp the basics if you're already familiar with Melody's Escape custom content creation. The main advantages are real time color editing and texture reloading.
  • Added a "belt" skin element for the character skin (empty on the default skin). This element is drawn above the legs and is tied to the position of the "pelvis" element. You can use it for instance to draw a skirt above the legs
  • Hairlocks are now drawn above the static sprite of a haircut.

Minor Changes
  • Added some noise/dithering to the sky's background gradient, so that the gradient horizontal lines are less noticeable and to get a slightly more gritty visual result.
  • Removed the background gradient in menus screen as it resulted in visible horizontal lines with some color schemes.
  • The flying mode's backgrounds were slightly offset so that they don't intersect visually with the orbs anymore, for better visibility.
  • Hair movement now flow more naturally for all animations where Melody rolls (especially with very long hairstyles where it was too stiff before)
  • Flying mode is now slightly faster and running mode is now slightly slower
  • Multiple changes to the default color palette
  • Fixed folders with a dot "." character in their name being shown as playlists in the music selection menu
  • Fixed scrolling the music list with LB/RB shoulder button (or PgUp/PgDown keys) being able to overflow if the list was small.
  • Removed the "disable dynamic hair simulation" performance option as its cost was quite minimal compared to its high visual quality impact.
  • Fixed fullscreen mode issues when restarting the game on Linux
  • The Mac port is now using universal binaries, which should fix Workshop Skin loading issue that prevented some players from running the game after subscribing to a skin.

Now available on Linux and Mac!

Melody's Escape is now available on Linux and Mac, as a native port using FNA/Mono.

Everything should be functional, except for a few issues with fullscreen mode that will be fixed in the next patch, and "drag'n'drop" which isn't working yet.

If you encounter any issues on those platforms, please don't hesitate to post them in the Linux and Mac support thread.
If the mouse isn't responding correctly after switching to fullscreen, you can use the keyboard to navigate the menus.

Melody's Escape is a nice rythm game. I like it a lot because it's customizable (e. g. Skin of Melody, background) and the gameplay is amazing. You might think: "This is a rythm game. It's gotta be both boring and hard at the same time. There's no way I could do that." I'm telling you, that's completely wrong.

While you're playing the track, you can listen to your most favorite songs. But don't let that song overwhelm you, you still have to control Melody.

Even though some tracks might be hard even on the "Relaxed" difficulty - you can't lose. There's not even a scoreboard allowing you to compare you with your friends or other people playing this game.

So yeah. These are my reasons for recommending this game. You definitely have to try it out.

I saw a trailer for this game a while back and I hadn't really thought to act upon it until just yesterday, and I can say for certain that this beats any other rhythm or music game I've played. The controls are very much so Guitar Hero-esque, but each one does different things when prompted, so you might duck under a floating platform, hop over a bump, and so on with rather visually pleasing aesthetics.

What really grabbed me, however, was the gameplay that is custom-tailored to the music you set the game to. All you have to do is drag and drop your music file onto the game window and off it goes, analyzing the music file and creating a series of obstacles for you to overcome as you run through alongisde the song. No other rhythm or music game I've ever played has had this kind of system where it makes the level for you just by analizing the song. Others I've tried were Frets on Fire, Stepmania, and the like and all of those required you to place the notes/beats/moves yourself if you wanted to play a game with your own song, which, if you enjoy doing that, then keep playing those ones. In the meanwhile, I'll be playing all the songs I want, as soon as the urge strike me in levels that are customized and built right at the very get-go.

And as far as the visual graphics go, the captivation and beauty of such simple design elements are quite stunning, and are such a specific kind of beautiful that it doesn't distract you from the gameplay, yet you can admire it in its entirety while you're playing the song through.

All in all, 9/10. Positively addictive and truly a beautiful-looking game. The musical analytical system is so brilliant, I could see other developers trying to emulate this sort of system for themselves. Bravo, game devs. Bravo.

What I like the most about this game is it always feels fresh. I mean who stops collecting music? I get new stuff and I find myself thinking "Can't wait to check that song out on Melody's Escape".

Favorite Songs to Play so Far:

Hot Rails to Hell by Blue Oyster Cult
Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by Iron Maiden
Painkiller by Judas Priest
Creeping Death by Metallica
Katmandu by Bob Segar
Achilles Last Stand by Led Zepplin
Spirit Crusher by Death
Beyond the Ice by Blind Guardian
Jessica by The Allman Brothers Band
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt

My only suggestion would be adding some kind of album or playlist mode.

So,
the great thing about this game is that it actually responds to your music. Think Audiosurf, which does a kinda decent job but is seemingly a bit random at times, or Beat Hazard, which is a really great game in itself but doesn't really respond to your music except for how loud it is. This game does a good job responding to the music and displaying it visually.
The customization is also really great. Steam Workshop in that thing makes it really awesome, customizing-wise you're on a really good way. The game itself is pretty minimalistic though, so it's not really that much to actually see. It's a pretty great game anyway. I'd suggest picking it up if you're into rhythm games.

Great fun!
To begin, this is not a game about adventure, nor does it have any story. Instead what we get here is a masterpeice. One spectacular achievement in gaming. This game utilizes your music to mould the game in which you play and allows you to play the game you want.
The game revolves around music, your music, every last bit of it. Not only do you get to listen to your awsome music, but you also get to follow the runner on your screen and guide them through obstacles that you face in the way. Yes, it is a simple idea, but wow is it a complex system. Each song creates a different path, as the game creates an algorithm to work out how the song works, piece by piece and it mould the buttons and obstacles around them. Not only is this cool, but it does this all in a fraction of a second. There are no glitches i have come accross and i have had a lot of fun playing it.
With its simple, but stunning visuals it allows for hours of enjoyment and hours of listening to your favorite music. I would rate this game 9/10 and what makes this even more impressive is that it is still only early access. Great value and an overall great game!

A fun casual game wherin you use music from your own pc to play the game.
Basicly you tap the corresponding key as the signs and arrows show up to continue on.
I can confirm mp3 and flac work from my own experience.
You select a song the game analyzes it to make a course for you to play i have noticed some songs are analyzed more diversely then others though i dont know why this is but i can say the vast majority of songs i have played so far wer analyzed very well with a great course set up for it.
The difficulty levels allow for relaxing gameplay or for a frustrating crazy mess and several difficultys in between.

It's a pretty decent game. I've gotten eye strain a bit from it, but it's because of all the colours and the speed.
If you have lots of music, like me, then this game will give you quite some play time.

You can also make your own skins or download some in the workshop.

This is a neat game where you can choose your favorite music then as the character Melody run a obstacle course that is effected by the rythmn of your song of choice, and press buttons when prompted to, and depending on your success rate will effect your overall course. Of course on the basic level that defines this as a rythmn game, (if not aware, or certain of what that is, think Guitar Hero, or Rock Band if you are familiar with those), of course using music from your library makes this a rather unique game of this type, where the possiblities are limited, by your music, the difficulty you have selected, and your skill.

Another rather neat extra is that Melody's appearance can be customized thanks to the Steam Workshop, which possesses a good variety of clothes, and hairs for her, the game's color scheme can also be changed thanks to this.

Obviously I would recommned this game, of course weather you like it, or not depends on your music library, and if you are willing to test you fingers's reflects to the point of wearing them out, or of course you enjoy rythmn games over all.

This game is amazing although there is no story to this game its gameplay is so awesome running and parkouring to the beats of your music. The whole game updating a lot is great as well and the latest update this review was posted on is so cool when it slowed down and did like a movie shot when Melody was diving off a cliff i shot up with excitement and was like holy ♥♥♥♥ that is awesome.

Also the new outfits are sexy and awesome and what makes it worse is i do not know why it is sexy O.O"

Great Game! For $10, and considering the fact it isn't even finished yet. I would recommend this to any of those who are into 'Music Titles'. You play as a Female Character, and get to choose your own songs and play through the melody notes. There is Steam Workshop for this game for those of you who don't like the defaults as I didn't.
If you like Audiosurf, this is the next step.

I just got this game yesterday (November 22nd, 2014) and I have to say, it's easily one of my favorite games. One of the best games I've played in the last few years.

-game review under this top 5 list-

(This is my personal 5 favorite games of the last few years. 1st game being favorite, 6th game being least favorite of my favorites (though of course not bad as it is a top 5 list.))

1.) Warframe
2.)Melody's Escape
3.)Super Hexagon
4.)Defiance
5.)Insurgency

____

Now, the review.

Melody's Escape is a pretty simple game once you get used to it, and that's not a bad thing. You select a song (or playlist. You can choose to play an entire folder of songs in order with the press of a button, which is a great feature.) to play, and the game generates an obstacle course style of level that syncronizes with the music you selected. The goal of each level is to get as many correct "notes" as possible. In my experience, the game tends to sync more with the percussion parts of the songs I put in, which is nice.

As someone who sits at a computer all day listening to music, regardless of what I'm currently doing, I find this game to be quite fun. I always found it slightly uncomfortable to be sitting at my desktop listening to music while not doing anything.

"I'm not doing anything but listening to music, and it's a waste of time because I'm not making any progress in anything." --Me before I bought Melody's Escape

Now when I'm not playing Warframe, I'm playing this. There are a small number of games that I feel like I can play music with without ruining the gameplay of said game. The fact that this game is 100% centered around the music I'm listening to is just fantastic.

If you like to listen to music but feel like I do about playing music while playing a game, then this game is for you.

Although to be honest I'd recommend this game to everyone.

Another thing to note is that the difficulty curve from "Relaxing" to the next difficulty "Medium" is a decent one. You'll have to practice a bit to get good with Medium. 15 hours in and I'm still not ready for the two higher difficulties, but that's fine for now.

Because I'll be playing this a lot.

If you're a daydreamer, you'll love this game. If you were one of those kids to listen to music and imagine a man running outside of the car window, you will love this game.

Giving it a wide review isn't easy considering that every will have a different music genre taste. All I can say about the game though is that the controls are convenient, the style is nice and easy to follow along with. There's no pointless garbage flying around the screen, no flashing lights, no insane break downs to leave you confused and scrambling to hit the right buttons. It's just a calm, relaxing game that gives you the best of enjoying music and gaming.

The replay value is neverending. As long as you have music in your library, you can keep playing this game for as long as your little heart desires.

I saw this game before it was introduced to Steam during random trips around the internet. At first I thought it was going to be like most all other rythem games with the same repettitive motions. But when actual gameplay was released I freaked out. It combined the childhood thing a lot of us did in the car when we imagined the person or animal running outside the window; jumping, sliding, grinding, and preforming ninja moves over anything in our way. Melody's Escape combined the mental simulation of your faveorite music with minimal, yet beautiful detail and eye catching movement. With the added bonus of the Steam Workshop this game can take on any form that your imagination can think of.

9/10
