About This Game

The Graveyard is a very short computer game. You play an old lady who visits a graveyard. You walk around, sit on a bench and listen to a song. It's more like an explorable painting than an actual game. An experiment with poetry and storytelling but without words.
Buying the full version of The Graveyard adds only one feature, the possibility of death. The full version of the game is exactly the same as the trial, except, every time you play she may die.
Designed by Auriea Harvey and Michael Samyn. Animations by Laura Raines Smith. Music by Gerry De Mol. Sound effects by Kris Force.

If someone very close to you (especially an eldery person) has ever passed on from this life, than the art work, and poetry in this interactive art piece may resonate with you.

The description of this pay for version of The Graveyard, tells you exactly what you are paying for- the possibility of death.

If you are not interested in:
Interactive art
Very short games
Short stories, or poems
Walking simulators, or games with no action, and no gore
Than you likely will not enjoy The Graveyard.

If you aren't sure whether or not you should buy it, try the FREE demo version.
(It's up there, on the right, over the Share, and Embed buttons.)

Note: I had this game before it was available on Steam so, my playtime here is not reflective of my off-Steam playtime.

If granny had suddenly broken into a one-woman chorus line, kicking her heels and dancing around the cemetery like she has grubs in her garters, this would be the greatest video game ever made. Save your money and watch one of the several YouTube walkthroughs of this game. The experience will be identical.

This game will challenge your FPS/RTS/RPG skills! You will restart the game over and over until the old granny survives the bench encounter. Once the atrocious gypsy song starts you will never know if she is going to make it!

An amazing experience, such beauty and passion which can only be influenced in such a short amount of time. If you are playing this game for a first time I would recommend not equipping the sword until you have reached the holy grail as the enemy will start attacking you before you reach the bench.

Too short for empathy.
A simple glimpse into a moment that is possibly a final one. Actually, it will certainly be a final one. She could die any time she sits on that bench and sits on it as long as you want her to.
The avatar given has no characterization through dialogue, movement, flashback, or otherwise, and so the possible death of the character is totally irrelevant to the player as there is no consequence. A death such as this is only affecting to the most sympathetic of individuals.
The game attempts to present video games as art, but fails to exemplify anything that let video games stand out as their own medium.

Why is this a game instead of just a video? You walk in a straight line, you sit... the end?

If this was selling for maybe $0.20 as a fundraiser for a project I could understand.... $5 however is a disgraceful price for this piece of "art" (junk). Thinking outside of the box is great so long as people don't get ripped off in the process.

Yesterday I was taking a walk in the park, I sat down near a lake and pulled out a sandwich I had bought at a nearby deli. I was stricken by an overwhelming sense of serenity and appreciation. Over out at the lake there sat an island with a giant tree, who's branches had been made home to a number of birds nests. From the lake, I could catch sight of elderly men fishing, children playing with bread crumbs and ducks, a couple holding hands and taking a walk, a shirtless man on a jog, two women passing by on a bike. Every one of them wrapped up in their own world, but all the same, part of an ecological system that brought upon a feeling of peace, safety, and a certain pure beauty that made me aware of just how nice the cool breeze felt running across my skin from the hot summer heat, the underlying frailness of some waterside flowers that reflected beautifully on the lake's surface, and the pleasures of smell the fauna brought simply from its own life and death cycle.

None of that resonated in this lifeless game, it has absolutely no artistic merit, and the song sucked.

10/10, would put my wrinkly old woman butt on a bench again.

Maybe I am not understanding this game but it really is not much fun. Getting her to sit down was actually hard to do. The controlls seemed to be strangly configured and no way to remap them. I also was not able to do anything after she sat down.

Another one that falls squarely into the "It's not a game... it's art" category. Yes, you do get 95% of the game in the demo, but don't think of it as "I want to buy the game to see if she dies", think of it as "This was an interesting exercise - I want to buy the game to support the developers to make more stuff like this".

Granted, they've now made "The Path" which is also worth a look at, but this was interesting. A previous review described this as "an interactive painting" and gave it a negative review. I feel the exact opposite. If you're going to interpret it as "an interactive painting" then I'd say it succeeds perfectly.

£3.50 for a 6 minute experience??? The complete lack of value for money has deterred anything good that could be said about this game. Sure it's kinda cute but you get the exact same experience from watching someone else play it on youtube, and that is the sign of a bad game in my opinion.

This game really makes me moist, i dont know whats about it, i set my alarm one hour earlier to play this before school, its just THAT GOOD, The main character is this old lady whice is really intresting cus her attacks is mainly singing badly in german, there is some hidden messages in her songs, i think she sings about killing babies.

9/10 They could have fixed the graphics some more that would be cool, and we need dlc! I just wanna see her kill some more monsters and perhaps a better weapon than singing and that stupid cane. It's ♥♥♥♥ trust me, You're a fat truck.

This is a game where you walk forward, sit down, get up then walk away. That's it. It's a good game considering the artistic feel to it, but FIVE DOLLARS?! SERIOUSLY?! The game's worth a play, just buy it when it's on sale!
