Reviews

“If you’re entirely new to block building games, Block Story is loads of fun and full of ingenious gameplay.”
4.4 / 5.0 – AndroidTapp

“Overall, I found Block Story to be a joy to play, not to mention a highly polished product. One of the complaints I had with Minecraft is that it didn’t include any sort of in-depth RPG element. Block Story helped to bridge this gap and provide hours of entertainment in both the realm of building and character progression.”
9 / 10 – Dad's Gaming Addiction

“Block Story is a a fun adventure that does very well to create a virtual terrain that begs to be discovered. It is in parts charming, at others scary, and the dichotomy is part of its charm.”
8 / 10 – Android Rundown

I'm going to have to give this game a 'not recommended.' It has a ton of potential, and as is, could be fun, but it appears to be DOA on the PC.

No updates in 8 months for an Early Access game is not acceptable, especially considering the numerous promises from the Devs (June! er.. July!...er.. Oct... I mean Dec!... ... ... <crickets>)

this is the mobile ipod\iphone version why is it on a place for pc games? same layout it even has tutorials taken right from the mobile version your inventory is cut in half. luckily i still have an older version from years ago wthat is a pc version, these devs need to make this a pc version not just port an ipod game. i was hoping to get it on steam because steam is what i use for games on the pc, so much for that. thank god for black friday sales.

as of nowi don't recommend it be bought on steam, find an older version on desura or something.

WARNING BEFORE YOU BUY EVEN WITH THE 1.99 PRICE TAG READ THIS FIRST!
Look up the DEFINITION of Early Access and you will quickly see that this game is anything but that.

What is EA supposed to be?
1. Commute with the developers and give them ideas for what they want to add
2. update the game rapidly for the EA's to test

What the Block Story Dev's belive and are acting like early access it:
1. A way to buy the game and to wait over a year for an update for a beta test
2. Being forced to sign up for another EA styled system to get updates for a Beta Branch in a EA branch for a game that isn't finished. And even then they said that we won't get into their non EA beta until 2 updates from now. Mind you an update hasn't come for over half a year! Even longer on Desura being almost a year!
3. Devs rarley talk to us, when they do they make snappy remarks like "Be Patient" when people complain of the lack of updates for 6 months! When they do talk to us they give us empty promises that end up falling through within a weeks time.
4. They act as if Steam supports their lack of Early Access updates. by saying "Steam says that the adverage EA game should wait 1 month to update" and even when they say that they bypass that month by saying that "Updates take time" sure they do, but this is EA we are supposed to be getting half baked updates in the hope of the game taking shape by us giving feedback for the updates!

So as you can see this game doesn't belong on Steam, and persoanlly it should be removed. Secondly they should give the ability to refund everyone who has bought this game. And yes, I know this is the way it goes with Early Access but, the consumers shouldn't be blamed for the Developers sraight up lying about what they promise to do with their game.

If I was rating it as an actualy review and not a warning I would give it a 3/10
Since this is a warning HEED IT!

It's like someone tried to make Minecraft and thought "I could do it better", then sat back, drank 5 bottles of whisky straight and mashed their face into the code.

The UI's gwad awful, have to click several times to find that 'right spot' to pull an item from one box to another.
The movement is... meh, walking in glue constantly? Water likes to float, because... well... **** gravity right. Durability is 1 tool per block, terrain is littered with 'spawning' blocks, the quest system is awkward, the performance isn't too brilliant and the graphics are so... ~puke~ nothing blends in well or matches up at all.

Save your dosh, a zillion other games out there similar to this. Or go back to basics and install some mods on MC, which appear far more developed than this 'thing'.

It's got the core of a good concept - Minecraft with RPG mechanics and quest-based objectives - but in its current state it's clunky and generally unpolished all round. It's only been in Early Access for a couple of months, so hopefully it'll improve significantly with some more development time, but right now it's unfortunately just not very good. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it to see how the updates progress, but for the time being it's not worth picking up.

Game is quite boring imo, couldn't get into it. Not to mention you're paying £6.99 to fund the android version, if they need more funding for adroid charge more on android. Don't port to PC if there is no work being done on it at all. Simple.

Fun game. I have played many hours offline. Its a creative game with RPG elements. No limits, you can keep leveling up and get more skill points. Even things like digging give you exp so just playing the game and being creative allows you to level up. Also inifinite game world size. I just wish we would get some updates...

This game has aspects that minecraft missed such as the RPG element. I have been playing this since back in the desura days when the game was just being released and I have played hours upon hours of it (desura) and im still having fun, The new quests, the creatures and the exciting fighting is what really makes it for me. Very fun game :)

Well after just shy of 30 hours I am now done with all the quests in Block Story. That's actually a pretty reasonable amount of gameplay for a game now a days. I am hoping more quests start coming up with more variety and more craftables. I have to say this is a pretty good game. I never was able to get into it on my phone, but playing the Steam version was a very new experience.

Yes, the quests are repetitive, yes, there are similarities in Minecraft. (Though I would argue Minecract is about the creation and not the gameplay.) But, where Minecraft bored me in a few hours, this game kept me occupied until I completed the quests. I'm hoping there's more to come. Especially if the modding community is able to start making quests and items. I have enjoyed the worlds and textures that the community has put out so far and feel that it portends good things for the future.

8.5/10
In it's current state, it's still a fantastic game. Mixed RPG with Minecraft, Block Story can be anyone's imagination into creative buildings, fighting aspects, and more! The game has a lot of to develop in the future. Did I tell you the game is also a mobile app on some mobile phones? I have a lot of suggestions towards the game, but I love it.

*Main Suggestion*
My suggestion is to add multiplayer, because the game can get boring when it's time for me to stop building, and finish a numerous of quests, but playing with another person absolutely makes it more fun!

Pretty Awsome game. the only thing it needs is for the spawners to be replaced by the soul staff and natural spawning, like the moble version. Also, multiple quests for the same person should be available, instead of perminantly cancling one out. cant get a bow or car now :p Other wise, great

This game is well worth its price ($10 at time of review). The best way I can describe it, is if you took a decent version of Minecraft, and put more emphasis on questing. Although I LOVE Minecraft, I am typically disappointed with its clones. This is one of the best, even as is.

Actually, if you were to compare Minecrafts price and what you got out of it at its starting gate, this game is already a better value. I think if they keep up the pace, they may have something pretty great.

Love it! (played it on android before pc)

Good points about this game:
* well done graphics engine, runs at 700fps on a nvidia 660 ti, and even when rendering 3d in cinema 4d, it runs @ 100fps
* ambient music, based on the current situation really increases your game play experience.
* plenty of content, supplies near endless hours of gameplay.
* well done first person view, bobing makes you feel like you are really in the game.
* very hard to star up in game, makes it more of a challenge to play, personally this make the game play more enjoyable.
* tons more...

Things that could use improvement in this game:
* water physics, water does not drain (or atleast it does not appear so)
* native controller support, it does not seam to support joy sticks on xbox remotes.
* memory usage is ok, but the cpu usage is a little bit out of hand.
* general polishing.
* lack of multiplayer

All in all its a great game, supplies hours of fun, and has a ton of potential :D

TLDR:
Great game, buy it now.

Very nice game,extremely big map,a lot of monsters and very funny. The graphics are very good and runs smooth in almost all PC's and also,you can customize maps for others download.Only problem is that you can't play multiplayer,since it becomes boring to play alone.
