About This Game

The Golf Club is HB Studios’ next generation golf simulation. Stunning visual presentation and outstanding gameplay are to be expected but what really takes The Golf Club into the next generation is the procedural generation of courses and depth of social interaction. The Course Creator can generate a brand new course in seconds which can be shared and played immediately online with friends and other gamers across the world. There are also full editing capabilities for courses, Tournaments and Tours. Challenge your friends on a new or existing course in real time or try to beat their best recorded round. Add to this a myriad of stat tracking and personal bests of friends and rivals to beat, notifications, challenges and social media integration and you truly have a golf club worth joining.

We’ve created and fine tuned a swing mechanic that is more about feeling and fluidity above the users’ accuracy of hitting a marker on a power bar. Whilst anyone will be able to pick the controller up and play comfortably, the best players on the global leaderboards will be those with the best feel for the different golf shots and who are able to take into account ball lie, weather and terrain conditions.

No loading times between holes means you are straight back on the Tee after sinking your putt on the previous green. Also, minimal loading times into a new course make for a refreshing change to your typical console game.

No more getting bored of the courses given to you by the developer. With four clicks you can generate a unique course never seen before that’s ready to play.

With four clicks of a button from the main menu the game will generate for you a never been played before course. The variation is infinite!

If you want to tailor the courses a little more there are high-level options available to you. Examples of these are the number of holes, par distribution, fairway width, number of bunkers, green size, green slope and rough coverage.

The editor gives you the ability of create from scratch or mould anything on the course. You can alter the terrain, move tees, move greens, move holes, delete holes, add holes, bunkers, rivers, ponds, trees, foliage, buildings, animals and other objects.

Courses for all skill levels and utilizing the best of HB’s creative talents will ship with the game. They can be played individually but will also make up the tournament itinerary for the pre-designed Tour that also comes with the game.

Up to four players can play locally. Differentiate yourselves with different character models and clothing and choose between stroke play, match play or fourball.

Play others creations - work your way through the huge database of user created courses, each rated by other users to help make the decision easy to make.

Share your courses with the World – when you’re happy with your creations you can publish them for the rest of the world to play.

Play against others live or from the past - each round you play on every course is saved Online. Choose from Friends Rounds, Record Rounds or Rivals Rounds (others players close to your ability) to compete against. Their ghost balls and scores will be visible throughout your round giving you the feeling of competition without losing the instantaneous game play. Ghost and live balls can be hidden if so desired either selectively or en masse.

Watch others play the courses you’re on live – through our ball trace system you can see other users from around the world on the course that you are playing live, even if they’re on different holes.

"The Golf Club" is the most enjoyable computer golf game I have ever played. A 360 controller is a must (do not use keyboard controls) - it was hard to give up the 3 key-click shot (of other games) but I think I like the 360 control better. Play alone, play with others, play with ghost is all good. Typical golf games have limited courses to play; this one has more than you could ever play in a lifetime. The course creator is an awesome tool (a little bit trial & error to learn) but it makes me appreciate the time & effort that went into some of the user created courses.

My only minor gripe is the 'tournament' & 'tour' feautures need a little more improvement. The game has a tendency to grade courses as 'easy' (not sure how it calculates that) and the leaderboards can have some mighty low scores - unreachable at my skill level, even after 130 hrs of play).

Hope the programmers/creators continue working on this golf game ...or a Club 2, they will have my $upport.

Good golfing game!
Reminds me of the good old tiger woods days on console :)
Graphics are nice, and the game runs smooth.
I do highly recommend playing this game with a controller.

**Note to devs** adding a driving range and a short range/putting option would be nice, Something llike a training button in the main menu.

I kinda like the Golf Club. It's a relaxing game, and as far as I can tell, a reasonably good golf game. Not perfect, but reasonably good.

However, I haven't played other golf games lately, so I can't really compare the Golf Club with anything. In fact the last time I played any proper golf game was 20 years ago. I also know very little about golf itself. Just the basics about the rules and the differences between different clubs. So I can't really say whether the Golf Club lacks some important features or not, or if it is realistic enough or not.

The best Golf-Game (Sim?) for PC... Slightly limited (but priced accordingly)..TGC 2 should make it complete.

I'm not a golf game expert, but I know what I like. The Golf Club is missing a bunch of features, but it is satisfying enough to play.

The swing mechanism is good once you've practiced a little and have gotten used to it. I've tried both the mouse and the Xbox controller and I think I prefer the mouse. With either one, it's hard to specify a less-than-100% shot, though. The putting and chipping power seems to be based on a different scale than fairway play. So, you have to hit the ball significantly harder on the green than off it.

The swinging is all analog; there is no three-click power meter. Just as "Cue Club 2" uses a power meter while "Virtual Pool 4" is all analog, The Golf Club attempts to recreate the more organic "feel" of physically moving a thing (mouse or thumbstick) to replicate swinging a club (like the pool cue in Virtual Pool 4.) How well it executes this is up to your taste. I think it's OK except for the inconsistent power detection.

There are no other people anywhere at all. No computer opponents or spectators at all. Not even when playing a season are there any crowds or applause or anything. Maybe the seasons are trying to reproduce the feeling of an honor-system play-by-email event. (Just kidding.)

There is a disembodied voice that I turned off after playing a few rounds. He continually states the obvious and offers no actual advice and just becomes annoying.

In many ways, I find the Tiger Woods series on Xbox 360 or maybe even the old Microsoft Links 2003 to be superior golf games. Still, The Golf Club can give you several hours at least of pretty good golf.

I was going to write up an elegant summary of the game but honestly it doesn't need it. The game is easily the best golf sim I've played. The fact it has an unblievable course creator just puts it over the top. It's intuitive, fun and beautiful. You can play your course as your build it to ensure its exactly what you wanted. From placing objects such as buildings, trees, signs to sculpting a simple sand trap, you'll be in love with the ease at which it's all done.

Ontop of that the game is gorgeous to look at, runs great and simply the best representation of golf you can find on PC. With an interesting multiplayer aspect you can challenge your friends or take on their ghost ball of their best score.

So if you like golf, or golf creation and horribly written reviews, you should get this game.

What an utter disappointment for a game with so much potential and practically zero competition on the PC market. Very limited PC graphics optimization and horrible performance issues prevent me from recommending this game in its current state. With wonky putting, an unreliable swing mechanic, and lackluster ball physics (seriously the same bounce on every terrain except sand), you'd best save your money until this is patched.

On the plus side the sound design is top notch and the course creator is a great feature, however its certainly not enough to justify buying a game that feels like its still in beta.

From what I have played so far, this might be one of the best golf games ever made and it is nice to finally see a game like this on Steam.

The golf course creation tool is amazing. You are able to create and customize your own golf course - It can be fully randomly generated or you can hand craft all of the holes, bunkers, trees, hills, anything you could think of, and you can share it to the public.

As it is currently Early Access some game modes are not available as of yet, such as Tour's and Tournaments (These have a coming soon sign). Stat tracking is also on the way.

As far as I can see, there is no online multiplayer, however you do get to play against other players ghosts and The Golf Club supports local Multiplayer.

Graphics wise - Very good, very nice looking game.

Audio is also nice and the commentary that is in the game is a little different from games such as EA's Tiger Woods games, and that is a nice change.

Completely unplayable. It might be nice to have some in-game instruction as to how to swing, how to aim, how to putt, all that stuff. Apparently I'm supposed to have that information pre-installed in my brain -- if it's in there, it's cunningly hidden.

Once one does a web search to see how you actually take a swing, it might be nice to have the swing mechanism actually *work*. Pull the mouse back, move the mouse forward. Sounds simple enough. Pull the mouse back, well, okay, that's sort of a backswing. Move the mouse forward, and... nothing. Not even a twitch.

To make matters worse, I'm running on a brand new system and the graphics are jerky and slow even after stepping down resolution, antialiasing, and all the other graphics options. What in the world am I supposed to have to run this game smoothly, a server farm?

The programmers should be ashamed of themselves. Will someone *please* just re-start the Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Challenge franchise?

I'm uninstalling this and asking for a refund. This was a complete waste of money. I'm tempted to dig my old 486 out and load JNSE or TW2K on it. It would run and play better than this mess.

For those of you looking to find a game close to the Tiger Woods games, then this is the game for you. To be honest, the course creator is a bit of an aquired taste, however to those who can use it, there are some absolute masterpieces on the community section. From Augusta to Whistling Straights, there is always a new course to play.

Fun golf game. It's not perfect but it's the best thing on steam that I'm aware of.

+Looks nice
+Feels like golf
+Fairly realistic shot adjustment
+Adjustable swing difficulty
+Good customizability overall (even works with track ball)

-Still no driving range? Been waiting on this since release. Closest thing is to go into course creator and constantly revert your shots after hitting them.
-Wind seems very overpowering. An 8mph wind can blow your ball halfway across the green. A 15mph wind and expect to aim way off the side of the fairway to land mid. Maybe it's realistic (?) but it feels like too much.
-Resource hog. Maxed out with a GTX 1080 it runs choppy.
-Lastly, the biggest one IMO. The game NEEDS character stats. Every character being 100% identical makes for boring multiplayer. If I go before you and you watch exactly what I did, you can take that and tweak it for success because your character is an exact clone of mine. Including other variables would reduce this and add a lot of variety to the game. Playing the finesse player or long drive player or even amateur player would add a lot of replay.
