The new Early Access build is available now. Below are the changes and improvements you should see in this build.

*Fixed turn order bugs
*Fixed tour rivals
*Fixed bug where echos would be effected by the wrong wind when turn-order was turned on
*Live friends will now be auto-added to your tour if they are on the same or later round/event
*Fixed bug where an auto-added echo would cause an existing echo to stop updating it scorecard
*Fixed bug where the game would sometimes get stuck when backing out of the MessageCenter
*Fixed bug that occasionally prevented 'X has started a new Course' messages from showing in the MessageCenter

Build Notes v0.80

June 6th, 2014

A new Early Access build will be available this evening via Steam. This week we have been focused on bug fixing for all builds and optimising the console builds for next week’s E3 conference in Los Angeles where the game will be on both the Microsoft and Sony stands.

VERSION 0.8 BUILD NOTES

* Setting fix forcing defaulting the follow cam back to on
* Tours & Tournaments Leaderboard paging and Friends filter implemented.
* Misc Tours & tournaments Leaderboard fixes.
* Added more terrain sculpting brushes - These brushes are particularly useful for creating cliffs and other steep slopes without stretching the textures.
* Added more props - A couple of sheds, a clubhouse, a rowing boat, a bridge and a dumpster.
* Last weeks change to putt aim is now on only if Shot Suggestion is ON
* New Social setting to limit the number of Ghosts auto-added to a new game
* Fix random course generation to create 1 hole courses of the correct size defined by the user
* Fix bug when attempting to 'Play From Here' along the edge of the terrain where the player would be off the valid area
* Updated help callouts in course creator
* Other, smaller bug fixes, minor performance and load time improvements

About the Game

The Golf Club is HB Studios’ next generation golf simulation. Stunning visual presentation and outstanding gameplay are to be expected but what really takes The Golf Club into the next generation is the procedural generation of courses and depth of social interaction. The Course Creator can generate a brand new course in seconds which can be shared and played immediately online with friends and other gamers across the world. There are also full editing capabilities for courses, Tournaments and Tours. Challenge your friends on a new or existing course in real time or try to beat their best recorded round. Add to this a myriad of stat tracking and personal bests of friends and rivals to beat, notifications, challenges and social media integration and you truly have a golf club worth joining.

INTUITIVE CONTROL SYSTEM

We’ve created and fine tuned a swing mechanic that is more about feeling and fluidity above the users’ accuracy of hitting a marker on a power bar. Whilst anyone will be able to pick the controller up and play comfortably, the best players on the global leaderboards will be those with the best feel for the different golf shots and who are able to take into account ball lie, weather and terrain conditions.

INSTANTANEOUS GAMEPLAY


No loading times between holes means you are straight back on the Tee after sinking your putt on the previous green. Also, minimal loading times into a new course make for a refreshing change to your typical console game.

UNLIMITED COURSES


No more getting bored of the courses given to you by the developer. With four clicks you can generate a unique course never seen before that’s ready to play.

GENERATE COURSES


With four clicks of a button from the main menu the game will generate for you a never been played before course. The variation is infinite!

If you want to tailor the courses a little more there are high-level options available to you. Examples of these are the number of holes, par distribution, fairway width, number of bunkers, green size, green slope and rough coverage.

EDIT AND CREATE YOUR OWN COURSES


The editor gives you the ability of create from scratch or mould anything on the course. You can alter the terrain, move tees, move greens, move holes, delete holes, add holes, bunkers, rivers, ponds, trees, foliage, buildings, animals and other objects.

LARGE SELECTION OF PRE-DESIGNED COURSES SHIPPING WITH THE GAME


Courses for all skill levels and utilizing the best of HB’s creative talents will ship with the game. They can be played individually but will also make up the tournament itinerary for the pre-designed Tour that also comes with the game.

LOCAL MULTIPLAYER


Up to four players can play locally. Differentiate yourselves with different character models and clothing and choose between stroke play, match play or fourball.

ONLINE SHARING AND PLAY


Play others creations - work your way through the huge database of user created courses, each rated by other users to help make the decision easy to make.

Share your courses with the World – when you’re happy with your creations you can publish them for the rest of the world to play.

Play against others live or from the past - each round you play on every course is saved Online. Choose from Friends Rounds, Record Rounds or Rivals Rounds (others players close to your ability) to compete against. Their ghost balls and scores will be visible throughout your round giving you the feeling of competition without losing the instantaneous game play. Ghost and live balls can be hidden if so desired either selectively or en masse.

Watch others play the courses you’re on live – through our ball trace system you can see other users from around the world on the course that you are playing live, even if they’re on different holes.

I was going to write up an elegant summary of the game but honestly it doesn't need it. The game is easily the best golf sim I've played. The fact it has an unblievable course creator just puts it over the top. It's intuitive, fun and beautiful. You can play your course as your build it to ensure its exactly what you wanted. From placing objects such as buildings, trees, signs to sculpting a simple sand trap, you'll be in love with the ease at which it's all done.

Ontop of that the game is gorgeous to look at, runs great and simply the best representation of golf you can find on PC. With an interesting multiplayer aspect you can challenge your friends or take on their ghost ball of their best score.

So if you like golf, or golf creation and horribly written reviews, you should get this game.

Early Access Review
From what I have played so far, this might be one of the best golf games ever made and it is nice to finally see a game like this on Steam.

The golf course creation tool is amazing. You are able to create and customize your own golf course - It can be fully randomly generated or you can hand craft all of the holes, bunkers, trees, hills, anything you could think of, and you can share it to the public.

As it is currently Early Access some game modes are not available as of yet, such as Tour's and Tournaments (These have a coming soon sign). Stat tracking is also on the way.

As far as I can see, there is no online multiplayer, however you do get to play against other players ghosts and The Golf Club supports local Multiplayer.

Graphics wise - Very good, very nice looking game.

Audio is also nice and the commentary that is in the game is a little different from games such as EA's Tiger Woods games, and that is a nice change.

Early Access Review
This is very solid for an early access game.

Graphic options are limited to resolution and low/medium/high options although some tweaking in your cards control panel will improve what are pretty decent graphics for the genre. Optimization isnt great at this stage so don't expect high frame rates.

Gameplay is very good on the fairways but imho still needs a little tweaking on the greens when firm ground is selected in the course creator. Playing with a 360 controller in all aspects of the game was flawless.

The standout feature is the course designer and editor. Courses can be generated in seconds based on just a few parameters or edited down to the finest detail, and all with an intuative interface. Once published your course can be played and rated by other players. I find the creation process as much fun as the golfing.

HB studios have a long pedigree with sports titles and I look forward to seeing how this game progresses.

An excellent golf game, even at early access version 0.1.

The course editor is fully available, even though it's quite difficult to actually play your own course right now.

Overall an excellent golf videogame, as it is right now, it's a fully featured, complete game. A very promising early access.

Early Access Review
I have purchased only a few titles through Steam's Early Access. There is a trust factor that you hope the developer upholds. Assetto Corsa, Planetary Annihilation, and now The Golf Club (TGC) have formed an elite level of Early Access titles. These games exemplify building a customer-developer relationship founded on trust. The quality that is already built into TGC has me feeling satisfied, and VERY excited for the future of the product. I am amazed at the depth of challenge. Right when I thought that I "got it", I played Coronaca against some ghosts, and the greens positively whipped me (not to mention the devilishly placed fairway bunkers!!). This game has so much potential.

I can't wait for tournaments! Building in a course designer from the start was pure genius. You have instilled a sense of value for me. What I really want to compliment are the design decisions. You are making really smart moves. The ghost method of multiplayer suits me very well. I don't have to wait for others, worry about lag/disconnects, or even if I personally run out of free time. The swing method is awesome. I love that it is based on the character model swinging, not some power meter. It really makes the game a challenge and requires that I keep my head in it. Once I start to get lazy, there goes a slice into the woods! There are subtleties that I love too, such as you never cut off the guy doing the voice over. Even if I quickly move through the scorecard to the next hole, he finishes what he is saying. I like that. It feels polished.

Thank you HB for getting me excited about a PC golf game again, and living up to expectations. Job well done! I'll happily continue to be a part of The Golf Club.
