About This Game

The Golf Club is HB Studios’ next generation golf simulation. Stunning visual presentation and outstanding gameplay are to be expected but what really takes The Golf Club into the next generation is the procedural generation of courses and depth of social interaction. The Course Creator can generate a brand new course in seconds which can be shared and played immediately online with friends and other gamers across the world. There are also full editing capabilities for courses, Tournaments and Tours. Challenge your friends on a new or existing course in real time or try to beat their best recorded round. Add to this a myriad of stat tracking and personal bests of friends and rivals to beat, notifications, challenges and social media integration and you truly have a golf club worth joining.

INTUITIVE CONTROL SYSTEM

We’ve created and fine tuned a swing mechanic that is more about feeling and fluidity above the users’ accuracy of hitting a marker on a power bar. Whilst anyone will be able to pick the controller up and play comfortably, the best players on the global leaderboards will be those with the best feel for the different golf shots and who are able to take into account ball lie, weather and terrain conditions.

INSTANTANEOUS GAMEPLAY

No loading times between holes means you are straight back on the Tee after sinking your putt on the previous green. Also, minimal loading times into a new course make for a refreshing change to your typical console game.

UNLIMITED COURSES

No more getting bored of the courses given to you by the developer. With four clicks you can generate a unique course never seen before that’s ready to play.

GENERATE COURSES

With four clicks of a button from the main menu the game will generate for you a never been played before course. The variation is infinite!

If you want to tailor the courses a little more there are high-level options available to you. Examples of these are the number of holes, par distribution, fairway width, number of bunkers, green size, green slope and rough coverage.

EDIT AND CREATE YOUR OWN COURSES

The editor gives you the ability of create from scratch or mould anything on the course. You can alter the terrain, move tees, move greens, move holes, delete holes, add holes, bunkers, rivers, ponds, trees, foliage, buildings, animals and other objects.

LARGE SELECTION OF PRE-DESIGNED COURSES SHIPPING WITH THE GAME

Courses for all skill levels and utilizing the best of HB’s creative talents will ship with the game. They can be played individually but will also make up the tournament itinerary for the pre-designed Tour that also comes with the game.

LOCAL MULTIPLAYER

Up to four players can play locally. Differentiate yourselves with different character models and clothing and choose between stroke play, match play or fourball.

ONLINE SHARING AND PLAY

Play others creations - work your way through the huge database of user created courses, each rated by other users to help make the decision easy to make.

Share your courses with the World – when you’re happy with your creations you can publish them for the rest of the world to play.

Play against others live or from the past - each round you play on every course is saved Online. Choose from Friends Rounds, Record Rounds or Rivals Rounds (others players close to your ability) to compete against. Their ghost balls and scores will be visible throughout your round giving you the feeling of competition without losing the instantaneous game play. Ghost and live balls can be hidden if so desired either selectively or en masse.

Watch others play the courses you’re on live – through our ball trace system you can see other users from around the world on the course that you are playing live, even if they’re on different holes.

I started playing this game when was an early access game.
I like the gameplay, it's realistic. And the courses created by the user are fun. The main problem is lag, even at lowest settings at 1440p (looks terrible by the way). This is very poorly optimized for pc. 2 years later and the developers are still lazy to solve the problem the many of us are having.
My computer is more than enough to run any recent game.

My rig:
i5 6600k @4.6 Ghz
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z170 MARK 1
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB
Gigabyte GTX 980 ti G1

This game runs terrible even on low settings. I have an overclocked, 8-core CPU, with liquid cooling; along with an overclocked Nvidia GTX 1070 running at 2050 Mhz on stock voltages. That is saying something about the architecture of this game. It does not run, almost not at all! It's unbearable! I do not recommend it.

This is a good golf game...

Works great from the couch with a wireless 360 controller, never needed to touch a keyboard.

It's quick to pick up/learn, and nice to look at.

In my limited play time, I've enjoyed it. It seems simple -not as "arcadey" as Tiger Woods, but I may be missing out on some nuances. Regardless, it is just what I was looking for... some simple video game golf action from the comfort of my couch!

Best Golf game on PC by far, fairly realistic, smooth graphics and overall enjoyable gameplay especially with friends. Would need a driving range, chip training and put training tho

Equal parts infuriating and rewarding, probably the best golf game I've played since Links 2003. I'd advise turning the commentator off though, his quips get old real quick.

A pretty good game. Putting is very good. Driving seems way too easy, compared to old Links. It's trivially easy to drive straight at 100%, in Links the harder you hit the more difficult it was to hit straight. Static, the graphics look pretty good. There seems to be some problems with animation, lots of flickering, no matter what I try tweaking in graphics (I have GTX 1070, playing at 4k) Also reflections seem very blocky on some courses. It seems like they should be able to do better. More variety in courses would be nice, many look very similar. I don't want to be too hard, it's great someone is making a "serious" golf game, this is a fun game, with tougher shot play it would even better.

I got this game around 2 years ago and I love it. The base game itself isn't really why though. I use TGCTOURS.COM which is basically an online tournament/competitive league simulating all the real life tours. I'm sure there are other websites such as this one but I havn't really looked into it. If you aren't really into that then the course designer is AMAZING! You can pretty much do anything to your course and its awesome! Check out some tutorials on youtube first and make sure you never auto generate your holes, build them yourselves. For some cool courses I recommend going onto the forums (thegolgclubgame.com) and checking out the courses there.

If you aren't into either building courses or playing in online tournaments, then this game isn't for you.

ALSO: if you do not have a controller this game is... meh. It is literally impossible to swing without a controller for me and it is NOT a 3 click swing mechanic game. Controller is pretty much a must.

Pros.
looks nice
Nice continue game feature
Multiplayer works quite well

Cons.
Playing on a PC with dual monitors is a pain, ie. no screen traversal in full screen mode.
Unusual naming and positioning of the advance tab.
Club power is difficult to control.
No metric voice over.
Changing units from metric to imperial or vice versa creates a mix of the two.
Only seems to work with Directx 11 compute shader compatible graphics cards.
Unable to see multiplayer friends until on the course.
Overly complex menu layout needs a basic and advanced mode.
Sometimes all courses are unavailable.
Feels like a beta.

I'm not too sure why there are so many bad reviews for this game. I haven't played hunderds of hours but so far I haven't had any issues at all. I was looking to buy a golf game, this was on offer and I couldn't be happier. So much variety with thousands of courses to choose from. Looking forward to creating my first course.

If you're looking for a golf game get this. Unless you want something like Golf With Friends but they're obviously very different games.

I have not enjoyed a computer golf game so much since I played early DOS versions of Links in the early '90's. Though I played that with a mouse, this game is much more enjoyable for me with a gamepad. I suspect many of the negative reviews about the feel of the game are from people not playing with a gamepad. The negative reviews that talk about the lack of "leveling up" and "improving shots" are really the greatest strength... you get better at this game by playing and practicing, just like real life. It does take practice, and you get better by playing and learning. Sooo much better than the EA golf games' "upgrades", and "level-ups".

The only negative views I fully understand concern online play and the handicap system. That is truly broken and exploited. But that does not take away from the fact that this is just a fantastic golf sim, with essentially unlimited course options. I would love the option of real world courses and equipment, but even that does not take away from the fact that this is a fun and relaxing golf game. The course designer is an awesome addition, and it is just fun to play solo, or with friends you know won't cheat the system. I took a chance the last time it was on sale, and liked it so much I went back and bought the collector's edition upgrade to further support the developer. Well worth the price, and I look forward to the next version.
