Update 0.25: mana tactics

You need to claim mana with the new spell now, like in Magic Carpet. Otherwise, the gatherers won't touch it, and you need it collected and stored at your castle to increase your maximum mana so you can cast more powerful spells.

Gatherers can be killed now, so you might consider where to place your castle and where to kill the monsters to gather the mana faster and without extra trouble.

I rebalanced spell costs and other related parameters, so you can't anymore spam fireballs early on. You'll need to get some mana quickly before you engage a lot of enemies and use your castle more to speed up mana regeneration.

I also added a normal (non-dark) version of the birds and improved various stuff.

The castle is not damageable or upgradeable yet, I'll add that later. It'll add to the difficulty, especially in the dark worlds.

Change log:

  • Mana is now "wild" by default and should be claimed with the new Claim Mana spell.
  • Gatherers only pick up mana owned by the player now, ignoring the wild mana.
  • Player's maximum mana depends on the mana stored in the castle now.
  • Player's mana regeneration rate now depends on the mana owned (claimed) by the player.
  • Made gatherers pick up mana much more efficiently.
  • Gatherers can be damaged and killed now, both by enemies and the player.
  • Rebalanced spell mana costs and some other parameters.
  • Extra mana (above castle's capacity) is now expelled from the castle.
  • Added normal (non-dark) birds.
  • Added gatherer summon and death effects and sounds.
  • Added gatherers' info to HUD.
  • Mana, gatherers and player's missiles are now visible on the map.
  • Added dotted line to the castle on the map.
  • Spell icon turns semi-transparent now when the spell can't be cast.
  • Made Fracture spell stronger and improved its effect aesthetically.
  • Updated the tutorial to teach about claiming mana.
  • Fixed items appearing inside menhirs sometimes.
  • Added additional screen message with smaller text, mostly for the tutorial.
  • Added world gameplay time to script, also displayed on the performance stats screen.
  • Changed the way C++ and Squirrel objects are linked internally.

This is a really good looking game but sadly its an early access that .... misses a lot of content and still not nearly finished.
( NOTE ) I have actually 5 hours of gameplay but offline steam didn't record.

So you basically just fly and shoot stuff and build a castle and harvest the energy to unlock more spells and finish each world and move on to the next level

The game is beautiful with the music and Design and graphics.

but like i said Stay away from this if you are looking for a fully finished exploring experience game, this game is still missing a lot of content and well its only Singleplayer, No cards no Achievements nothing so far.

To be honest i have no idea when they are going to finish it and its frustrating really but i cant complain a lot since i got this game extremely cheap ( Maybe less than 1$ ) Of a small trade.

On their plans is to Add Multiplayer With PVP but i cant see that happening anytime soon
Their Indiegogo Campaign failed so the updates were delayed and i dont really know when are all the promised content is coming.

So yeah this game is good i like it, but if you don't mind having an unfinished game to support and back it up then i suggest you stay away from it instead of buying it hoping for a finished polished game which this isnt.

I still think this game should get more attention it looks good so far , hoping for more new content when they can.

Never saw a game like that before, i really enjoy:
- The cool effects
- The element casting
- Awesome designed entities
You could add this here:
- More entities
- A short introduction to the game
- Maybe a better control I find it a bit weird

Everybody should buy this game to help the developer and improve the development.

This game is small, for the most part basic. But I will give it that for what it is, it seems to capture a good sense of atmosphere and creativity. The controls are fine. It's always fun to fly and roam without limit. And the magic, while somewhat limited in its current state, does show a lot of potential. Get it when it's on sale and it's definitly worth a look at. Teddy bears eat rainbow snake and crow souls. 5/5.

Well I hadnt loaded it for a few months, went back to it today and it was I who was gobsmacked, so much has changed or rather been added. The feel & playability are two strong points, if ya like your Magic Carpet, climb aboard and enjoy Arcane Worlds, btw if ya come across one of those think twice.....rather tough.

In some aspects this feels better than Godus. It certainly got more potential and it doesn't look like it was made for an iPad. At the moment its on a very early stage of development, you've got few basic spells to change the landscape and only few offensive spells. While there isn't much to do right now apart from killing several enemies and harvesting mana you can already get a feel of what it could be when its finished - a proper remake of "Magic Carpet" series and a decent godsim.

Its hard to believe that Molyneux made "Magic Carpet" once and other amazing simulators before he went off the rails.

This game looks like it could have a lot of potential. Unfortunately development seems to have stalled. There are virtually no detailed play instructions at the time of this review. Graphics are minimal, little variety in opponents/mobs. After the first few worlds they all begin to look the same. I applaud the game concept but it's a shame it's not being realized to it's full potential.

The game is so beautiful and from what I have seen it's realtively simplistic game whre you explore to get new spells to interact with new things. The devs must really have an eye for beauty,or they were just high while making this game.

In all seriousness I really enjoy this game for its casual and calming atmosphere while still having depth.

Arcane Worlds reminds be most of the classics of Magic Carpet and Populus The Beggining. I have waited ~20 years for a Magic Carpet remake so to throw in some Populus god like control of the physical planet is just a bonus.

I have played Arcane World since its Early Access release on steam. Key features are still missing such as a convincing story, enemy bosses and multiplayer. However in this time it has been easy to see the commitment from the developer with consistent updates adding solid content.

Arcane Worlds is far from complete but with such a good base to build on Arcane Worlds shows the most potential of any game I have ever backed (KSP, Spintires, Banished inclusive)

Play the demo if you have never played Magic Carpet before. But for $10 im already at 8+ hours! To support this game is a plesure.

Having played Arcane Worlds since v0.19 I think every new build has brought something new to the table. Progress on the game might not be fast given that there is only one developer but it is certainly steady and v0.25 is almost like a different game to v0.19 now. One of the first major surprises for me was just how much better the randomly generated worlds looked after the generation code was revamped to build the worlds around the gameplay elements rather than the other way around. Before colours were mostly the same and random terrain was sort of thrown together. Now you will find pillars, lakes, valleys, forests and more with proper palettes that all fit together very well in making a believable and natural-looking random world. Couple those elements with terrain effecting spells like Fracture and Volcano you can actually have a lot of fun just terraforming worlds and customising them to your liking.

Spells are no longer found randomly on worlds like previous builds and instead you will find runes which you use on crafting worlds to create new spells. This gives you some early goals to work towards as different spells require different runes so you have to scavenge worlds for the rune types needed for the spells you want. Certain worlds will be easier to conquer if you have the right spells and certain puzzles might require a specific spell to solve.

A much-needed interactive tutorial has been added so anybody not already familiar with the old Magic Carpet games will now have the basic movement, combat and crafting mechanics explained to them. You don't get everything handed to you on a plate though so you still have to figure out what those circles are and what to do with them.

Several improvements to the map make locating items on worlds much more easily. Un-triggered circles are marked as are creatures and mana gatherers and there is a line back to your castle so navigating is much easier. In the universe map you can also check if you have missed anything on worlds you have visited which is pretty useful.

Difficulty has increased on v0.25 as your starting mana is now lower and you can't just rain fireball death on enemies right away so you have to fly more evasively until you have added some mana to your castle allowing you to sustain your fire rate for longer periods. Dark worlds are a new addition and whilst I don't want to ruin the surprise I will say that poorly prepared Wizards are going to have a bad time in these! One of my early criticisms of the game was that it was a little too easy and creatures offered no real threat to you which is now being addressed.

The game is also moddable which is fairly unusual for an alpha-build game. The scripts in the /gen/ folder are not only responsible for world generation but also the gameplay elements so there is a lot that can be done to tweak and customise the game. There isn't much in the way of documentation (or even comments) so the difficulty curve for modding is currently quite high but I expect this to change as the game develops further.

Arcane Worlds is a truly amazing experience for an alpha and I can't recommend it enough regardless of whether you ever played Magic Carpet or not.

I should point out that as the game is DRM-free many people (including myself) usually aren't logged into Steam when I play so the "played" hours count (3.5) is far from correct for me at least. I think I will have to change that!

Atemberaubendes Spiel!

+Mann kann (fast) alles machen was man will
+Epische Ansichten der Bauten
+Perfekte mischung aus Gott Simulation und Minecraft
-----------------------------------------------------------
-Einige Abstürze
-Kommt oft vor das Man schon Freigeschaltete Perks wieder bekommt(sehr Frustrierend!)
-Zu einsame Welt ( Keine anderen Lebewesen außer ein paar gegner)
(-Kein Tag/Nacht Wechsel
-Welten sehen sehr gleich aus
-Wetter immer gleich)

EARLY ACCESS-

Those are two big words these days that get quite mistruded, misunderstood or just plain ignored. EARLY ACCESS. While yes the game was just added to Steam today and it is a very early alpha build I found the game to be enjoyable. The game may be lacking in things to do but again that is because of EARLY ACCESS. Buying the game at this point is supporting the game and giving money to the developer to help push development faster and further.

With that said my experience in the game was very enjoyable. I played for about an hour and twenty minutes. There are about 12 spells to find and unlock currently. To do that there are altars or events that happen on a map and you complete them using the spells you already have. You then unlock newer , more powerful spells. I played around with the water and the volcano for a long time. It was a lot of fun.

There is a small amount of combat in the game right now and I can't say whether or not it will be a combat centered game. However you can place a castle down and your ... well bear like things go out and collect what appears to be a resource of some kind. You can also find a spell to place guard towers down. Ultimately you are to find the portal on the map by doing all the objectives and it opens up new worlds to choose from and explore.

For a early access game, this early in development It was very enjoyable. The developer plans to add more spells and other very cool features and mechanics to the game as time permits.

Is it worth the price? Definitely! Check this one out. As for a Early Access score ? I will wait as I want to play it more but I love my first impression of this game.

It's early access yet (01/29/14) so the game is not complete, but what is there is very promising.

Arcane Worlds takes up the same style of game play as the Magic Carpet series put out by BullFrog in 1994. In the intervening two decades nobody has taken up the gauntlet and offered up such a destructable world. It's not bullet holes and burn marks slapped up when you miss but burning trees and craters gouged out of the landscape. Even though the roster of spells is only about half filled the expectation is there; There is no problem that can't be solved with some magic.

The developer is doing everything right and I can't imagine early access on steam was an easy decision. I have no doubts that single player will eventually become a fully realized spiritual successor to the Magic Carpet style of gameplay. The frustrating part of this is going to be waiting while the developer keeps up the same quality job implementing the rest of the game. Looking forward to each new update adding Spells or other game play features, and since I am sure the Dev will be sick of it not going to compare Arcane Worlds to Magic Carpet again. But it really is well done and unique with a great sense of art design.

Pros
What's there works, and is a professional job! Single Player, the Spells that are currently present, creatures, magic portals, multiple worlds, and the redoing the landscaping all work and every single part of that looks great.

Cons
It's very early access. Only about half of the spells are in place, an odd choice of mana collector models, and a bare minimum of creatures to provide mana. Also there is no "dungons & dragons" style story or missions in place yet so frankly it's very very early access at this point. The biggest problem is the simple fact that the game is early access and not "done".

Want a game where you can spend hours turning the entire world into a monstrous volcano that threatens to bring even the mightiest of graphics cards to its knees? Look no further than Arcane Worlds.

The first thing I noticed was the cheat options. While I lasted at least 20 minutes before succumbing to the temptation, I found that the game is so lacking in features that I had little else left to do besides cheat. Once you give yourself the mana cheat and the ALL SPELLS cheat.... Rapid-fire volcanology awaits! Many other available spells vie for your interest as well, but they all pale in comparison to the mighty volcano spell.

SO.... $10 for a quality physics simulator which (I have not yet been able to crash, although I can drop framerate to abysmal levels) where I get to turn the entire world into a volcano over the course of an hour and a half? Count me in!

Players: You are ALREADY getting a quality physics fluids simulator in a procedurally generated (rather small/wrapping) world for just $10. Go for it. This is more entertaining and less buggy than a LOT of other crap out there on Steam (and other ware stores).

To the dev: Well done sir! Now you face the daunting task of adding meaningful gameplay to this fantastic world simulator you have created. I wish you the best of luck and encourage players to follow this game closely as things develop.

There is nothing to do... I don't see any reason for all the thumbs up. I understand this is alpha, but there is no real game to play. You float around, you can shoot birds, you send weird teddy bears marching about, you can make big holes or mountains, but there's really no point to any of it yet. None of your actions matter and your changes to the world aren't even saved.

Here's a shocker; I only bought this game on impulse... It looked like an awesome idea and that's about all I went on when I bought it.

This game really surprised me though. I played it way too long for its actual gameplay. I guess it's because of the thrill of exploring an uncharted world, the need to get more spells to be even more powerful and see the absolute chaos that your power can bring to the world. To be able to shape it in any way that you want. I mean let's be honest here... Who wouldn't want to be a powerful mage soaring through the sky, killing evil black things that are hostile and gaining more powers as you explore new worlds?

I for one am pleased, for once, that I followed my 'ooooo shiny' impulse. Thanks for all the work that you guys do! I'm glad to see that the game is updated fairly regularly.

First impressions: http://www.cublikefoot.com/arcane-worlds-first-impressions/

Arcane Worlds is essentially a sandbox. A fun one at that. The game consists of terrain alteration, nothing else.

Well, in this state, you really have no idea how this game will end up, considering it is still in early access. There aren't many features offered currently, which is a bit disappointing, but it is in early access after all. The game even offers you cheats via the pause menu. I enabled these after spending some time playing around with the base game. The cheats make Arcane Worlds a lot more fun. Sure, there's going to be some legit ways to unlock all of the spells offered, but it sure is fun to spam volcanoes all over the world.

I for one, spent all of my time screwing up the world beyond repair. I had volcanoes reach the clouds, then put waterfalls on the sides of them. I made a very, very deep pit that slowly filled with lava as I placed volcanoes around it. The whole world was a scorched, lava-filled mess by the time I was done with it. I should mention that there are entities in the game such as birds and these giant, smiling bears that serve no purpose, but as it stands, they don't really do much in terms of gameplay.

If you're looking for some quick fun, with no real goal in mind, then check out Arcane Worlds.
