What the developers have to say:

Dethroned! is still under development and somewhat rough around the edges here and there. However, we continue to improve the game on a regular basis with new features, content updates and bug fixes. You can help us! Play the game and tell us what you think! We will be making frequent balance and gameplay updates based on community feedback and suggestions.

Currently we have the core gameplay with a variety of heroes done. Other big features coming next (not necessarily in this order) are new heroes, new maps, a lightweight quest system and cosmetic add-ons for heroes (think hats!). In addition we will be polishing the game itself, creating new items and generally balancing things for a better game experience.

You can play Dethroned! right away for free. We also offer a special Early Access pack for a limited time that unlocks all current heroes plus all the paid future content, including all the heroes that we will ever add!”

To the players of Dethroned!

June 24th, 2014

Despite our best efforts we couldn’t secure financing for continuing the development of Dethroned!

Because of this we’re in the process of removing the Supporter Pack DLC from the store. In addition all the payment options in the game itself will be made non-functional during the next few days.

We thank the community for the great support Dethroned! got during it’s run on Steam, especially everyone who gave to the development as customers, players and commentators.

Servers running the game will be kept up until money runs out.

Q: Will there be any more updates, like heroes, to the game?
A: No, unless we get funding for that.

Q: How long will the servers be up?
A: Unknown, several weeks is an educated guess.

Q: What happens when the servers go down?
A: Bearded server guy is working on a dedicated server software so those who want can run the server themselves. Release date for this is unknown.

Q: Will there be an option to host a game inside the Dethroned! client itself?
A: Probably no, this would be a much larger undertaking than making a dedicated server software.

Q: Will the game be open sourced if there’s no funding for it?
A: Probably not, for a variety of reasons (like the usage of third-party toolkits).

Q: Is there an upside?
A: Well, if you want to be the best ever player of Dethroned! like, forever, now is your definite chance!

Patch 1.0.10 is now live - now with Alchemist for DLC owners!

April 4th, 2014

Patch 1.0.10 is live! Here's what's in it:

- NEW HERO: ALCHEMIST is now available to DLC owners! The alchemist is a hero that combines three ingredients to make potions, then throws them at the ground for friends or foes to pick up. Although alchemists' base damage is low, they have a lot of room for creative play by using all the potion combinations wisely!

- Matchmaking is back to 1v1! Having team games as the default mode didn't produce desired results so we're rolling back! The matchmaker should still make better matchups than the old 1v1 matchmaking. Team games are still of course available in custom games.

- Speed potion has been significantly buffed.

- Fixed some issues with joining games that lead to game getting stuck in loading screen.

Very interesting game. Theres moba element, also mixed with w3 castle fight elements and with capturing stuff idea. Theres immprovement day after day, so lags, bugs, neverending wait time and many other things are forgiven! This game has big potential. I hope, creators will lead it to the end. according to other free to play games 9/10.

You get to play as a battle-bear that can summon a duck to do battle. If that doesn't make this a good game, then you must be an elitist preteen devoid of any sense of humor and/or fun.

Simply put , Dethroned is an amazing game. It combines elements of MOBA and RTS so beautifully, with one of the most intriguing, motivating + at the same time simple item systems. Everything about this game is fantastic. There isn't even an option to spend real money on the items either as of right now, so no p2w. The basic concept of it is incredibly innovative and will give the player an experience like no other. Although when you get into it it may feel a little rough, give this game a chance it won't let you down. The VAST majority of anything you may dislike at the beginning or any bugs you encounter will be fixed, because this game is in very early beta right now. I've been playing for maybe a week and most of the issues I had at first ran into have already been fixed. The staff puts out patches at an unbelievable rate, I have seen 3 patches within just this last week.

Tl;Dr This game is amazing, and it is in EARLY BETA so huge potential ( patches 2-3 times a week too )

TLDR - I think this could be a really cool game, but right now it just has too many problems.

I find myself really wanting to recommend this game. I've played a lot of MOBAs and this is a fresh twist that I like. Sort of a return to Battlezone 1/2 or Savage with one player building and the rest fighting. There are two major problems that keeps me from being able to enjoy this game though.

The first is that the only way to get XP is by killing enemies that are spawned from your opponent's barracks (if they build one) or by killing the opposing players. This means that unless your opponent has built a barracks right off the bat, the first kill will give one side a huge advantage. This wouldn't be so bad if the capture points that steadily tick down your opponent's tickets (think how Dominion works in League of Legends) fired back and required creep to tank the shots for you. Instead, the first team to get a kill and thus a level generally then can bully the opponents back and take over 1 extra mine or victory point tower and start a slow but inevitable snowball. Even when they do eventually build a barracks, the combined minions + enemy players will prevent you from being able to level up much, they'll just farm you instead, even at your base being healed.

The second and perhaps even worse problem, is that the controls are pretty buggy. The character you are given by default is a melee character and many things in the game make that very frustrating. First off, you will not automatically attack back if you are attacked. This means you might look away to build/harvest gold only to find your character standing there at half health being attacked. What is worse that even when you order your character near an enemy many times they will be standing clearly in attack range doing nothing. It is not clear if you have targeted and enemy and thus very hard to know if your character is actually going to attack when he/she arrives or just stand there like an idiot. There have been other bugs such as pretty bad pathing around the high rocky areas as well as once when I had an enemy cornered, was clicking on them directly but could not get my character to attack and instead had to watch as they killed me. The last gripe is that overall the controls feel pretty laggy. Perhaps all input is being validated on the server and thus suffers a 50-100ms lag, in which case I might suggest the devs look into extrapolation and interpolation with positional overrides from the server. Overall it's very frustrating for an action game to be so terribly unresponsive, especially stacked on top of the above problems.

I'm hopeful the devs will be able to resolve most of this and the game will stabilize into a genuinely great experience, I think it has potential, but a mix of design and technical problems is really holding it back right now.
