What the developers have to say:

“Infectonator : Survivors is currently in Alpha, which means we haven't finish it yet. What you see now is only a portion of what the full game will be. By buying Early Access you are giving your support for the team to continue developing the game and to make it MORE AWESOM-ER! On top of that, you'll receive a new build of Survivors every month and get to play it before anyone else. You can even pitch in ideas and help us shape the game better. As early adopters we will also reward you with The Art of Infectonator digital art book (like the game, these aren't ready yet, but you'll be the first to get access when they are launched).

Currently the game includes:
* Single player mode with randomly generated goodness
* More than 20 unique survivors, including special cameo appearances
* Huge range of weapons and items
* Random game events

Our to do list includes:
* More characters
* More weapons, turrets, items & gears
* Research & Crafting system
* Build & Customize HQ
* Oregon Trail-esque traveling system with a twist

On the game's price - we are keeping this price until the end of early access, when the full game is released. The price will not go down until then, and in fact, will probably only go up once all the new features are included and we're in final release.”

Update #15 - Quests & Sleeping - Oct 24, 2014

Hello Survivors!

We have another update this week.

SLEEPING & RESTING
We added a new sleep animation to the survivors.

QUEST SYSTEM
Started laying down the ground works for quest system. You can now talk to the merchant, at the moment this will start a conversation window. We are planning to expand this so that the merchant (or any NPC that you encounter) could offer you to do side quests.

EARN EXP WHEN CRAFTING
This is one of the most requested feature. Now survivors will earn EXP points when working on research projects at the base camp.

OTHER UPDATES
Our update doesn't stop there! We've also made a lot of bug fixes and tweaks.

  • Survivor Level Cap - Changed survivor's max level cap from 10 to just 5 but gives 2 skill points per level up.
  • Price Balancing - Changed the material prices
  • Melee Weapon Balancing - Changed the melee weapons stats
  • Amount Slider - Added an amount slider when purchasing materials in large amounts.
  • Research Balancing - Changed research projects requirements.
  • Merchant Restock - Now the merchant will restock his inventory every 3 days.
  • Bug Fixes - fixed minor bugs.

Thank you for being patient with us and the game's development.
I'll see you again in 2 weeks with more updates!

Update #14 - Material Merchant! - Oct 16, 2014

Hello Survivors!

We have a quick update this week. We introduced a lot of new features in the last update, with it comes lots of bugs too. So, this week's update patches those bugs and adds more features. :P

MATERIAL MERCHANT
Now you can buy materials at the merchant, yay! This will make finding materials a lot easier. Then again, we have not yet balance this.

AMMO & CURRENCY
We are in the process of changing the game's currency, from CASH to AMMO. You will notice that the CASH indicator will now be AMMO instead. We figured that in a zombie apocalypse any conventional banking system would have collapsed, rendering any regular currency obsolete (your money would be worthless). In this kind of world, bullets/ammo will be the new form of currency as economy will be based on trading & bartering goods.

If bullets are the new currency, what about shooting and reloading firearms? Well, at the moment you can shoot & reload as much as you want, but we'll be changing that as well in the next update. In the next update reloading your weapons will cost some AMMO. You will have to adapt and plan on when to use Melee or Guns.

OTHER UPDATES
Our update doesn't stop there! We've also made a lot of bug fixes and tweaks.

  • Zombie AI fix - Fixes zombie idle bug.
  • Police Station Layout - Fixes a bug when generating Police station level layout.
  • Research Balancing - Changed research projects requirements.

Thank you for being patient with us and the game's development.
I'll see you again in 2 weeks with more updates!

Pretty fun game, get it on sale though, as a high price might not be worth it.

This addicitive little game is a mixed bag of genre's and styles.

It's got tower defense elements.... rts elements.... roguelike elements.... and plenty of Zombies thrown in for good measure. You goal is to micro manage a group of survivors in a side-scrolling zombie apocalyptic world to try and find rescue. Along the way you find loot, upgrades and defenses to help your journey. It's a great game that will have you coming back for more just to try out different tactics and routes. - Recommended!

It’s a fun game, but I wish I hadn't purchased it. I’m serious, 12 bucks for a flash game? That’s a little unreal. But I did anyways and I’ve enjoyed it ever since. So what do you get for 12 bucks? A doge meme reference. Yep. No cool new characters (despite saying, “Get them on Steam!” they’re still locked up.) No new weapons as far as I can see. No new maps. Just a new doge at your base camp. That does nothing. It’s just as ridiculously difficult as the online version and I’m hoping that Toge builds some actual steam content into the game to offset the cost. Otherwise, you’re just paying for a free game.
The game will scale in difficulty based on how many days you spend and how much stuff you research. The game doesn’t understand the difference between advanced weaponry and farming, so you’re better off getting the weapons upgraded first. Don’t bother trying to do it on your own; you’ll quickly learn you’ll need as many characters as possible to go on raids and do research. Also, since research doesn’t yield experience, get used to kicking out characters as you cycle through better ones.
The bottom line is, prepare for disappointment. And an overwhelming, crippling addiction. Seconds after you rage quit, you’ll be starting a new game. I promise.

This game looks good on the Surface. I enjoyed at the start till I started to notice the UI bugs hardly anything that is needed for basic function for the game is incomplete selecting your character to move will 90% deselect your toon on trying to move. Food is so much needed yet it’s a shot in the dark of how much you will get from a given area (as that part hasn't been implemented yet) a lot of things haven't been implemented yet like traits I know this games In Alpha but it won’t even save your option settings upon exit till this moved up on the tree of Development a little more I recommend holding off till then.

I'm too lazy to do a changelog today, maybe early next week :P

This should also tell you the maturity level of the developer

The game is TERRIBLE on the linux client. I had emailed the developer once yet I waited NEARLY A MONTH for an update. The game WILL NOT launch on the Linux client by default. I have yet to find a solution. I have waited for a LONG time for the new Infectonator to come out. I have waited about a year or two I forget the years. This is one of the few reasons I got the Steam client. This is the reason Steam got my money. It was well spent money. But not on this. It is a complete piece of trash on the Linux client. It launches to a black screen. The only thing avalible to me is the logo splash and a black screen. I leave you with this. A chance to redeem your 13 USD from a TERRIBLE game that the developer DOSEN'T SUPPORT even though he has the client avalivle on Linux. If it requires something else like Flash or some other non-free item. So be it! Just list it! I had waited for what feels like an eternity for a piece of ♥♥♥♥ to suck my 13 USD. I resent buying this crap from a developer that dosen't support his work/game. I would've preferred this to only have the Mac/Windows icon instead of Mac/Windows/Linux icon. This is written as of Sept. 25, 5:30 PM CST (GMT -5).

This is very fun, except there are couple of major bugs! The game does not save. Certain items don't appear (enough). When crafting the item doesn't exist.

Still very fun. Frustrating when does not save.

While the game seems fairly simple, there is actually a decent amount of strategy to it, especially as time goes on and it gets harder and harder to fight through zombie waves. I'm reviewing this game in it's alpha form, so keep that in mind while reading.

Pros
+ Fun and addicting gameplay as you try to survive as long as possible
+ Equipping characters with different guns is a lot of fun
+ Gun sounds are really well done
+ Randomized maps and items make for a lot of replayability
+ Scavenging system is a lot of fun

Cons
- Not enough tower defense elements (you can set up turrets and that's about it)
- Trying to support more than 4 survivors isn't really worth doing until much later in the game
- Zombie health increases as days go on, I'd much rather see bigger hordes
- "Zombie Hunts" aren't much fun, especially when there are 1 or 2 zombies left and you're just walking around aimlessly hoping they pop up. That mode of gameplay should be redesigned
- Maps are very small
- Price is a bit high for an indie alpha

Overall, I'd still recommend getting this game to support the developer. It can provide hours of fun and has a ton of replayability.

I didn't hesitate for a second and bought this game because I always enjoyed Toge's flashgames.

Once again I was not disappointed. Although in an early stage the game design is outstanding.

The game in its current state is addictive, challenging but never unfair.

Great for those who like me who like to game while listening to a podcast.

Glitch encountered: Sometimes when the game is supposed to switch areas, the layout will change but the textures and sprites will remain stuck, effectively rendering me blind to what's on the battlefield. When this happens, the zombies also become invisible.

This game is already showing GREAT potential! I am already hooked, and have only played for less than 2 hours. The music is great...other than it sounding like it is from an old nintendo game (which I like), it's got like a Michael Jackson Thriller type feel to it which I think adds to the apocalyptic zombie infested survival feel. I love all the upgrades as well as different party members and overview map. It offers a lot of freedom to the game and just makes it all the more addictive. If the developers are reading this - Keep up the good work! I would love to see how this game improves on its already fun gameplay.

Funny little game for people who like tower defense compaired with some RPG-elements. Its pretty hard, like FTL or Desktop Dungeons. There are some bugs (I can't save the game) and there are non-implemented features (perks) but the game runs smoothly.

You begin with a group of survivors equipped with weak weapons and every day you can choose between fighting through two tower-defense places or upgrading your equippment. If you are strong enough or have enough survivors, you can do both in one day (3 guys fighting, 2 upgrading, ...). The tower-defense places grow stronger every day and there are merchants where you can buy weapons. After collecting items (during the tower-defence part) you can repair your car an drive to an other destination. Simple, but addictive :-)

For $13, I'd say that so far I've gotten my money's worth. The game is in Alpha, and is receiving updates at a decent pace as well. As I've played it, there have been a few things that I feel would make it better have they been added, but the game's still Alpha, so long as they keep working on it, I can only see it getting better.

Pros:
-Excellent music (one of the main things that brings me back to playing it at times)
-Good variety of weapons along with tiered progression
-Decent variety of survivors to find, and an okay amount to pick from to start off the game with
-Plays very well on my laptop, minimal lag and such, so it's a solid experience that isn't interrupted by FPS drops

Cons:
-It can get repetitive after a while of playing
-Entirely Single Player at the moment, no idea if they plan on some kind of Co-op or something
-Obviously Alpha, so there may be a few bugs here and there (many of which in the past have been successfully patched)

Well that's about all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment. It's a pretty fun game with excellent music and it's an enjoyable way to spend a bit of time. As of this moment, I'd say it deserves an 7-8/10, it's fun, but breaks should be taken every so often to not tire it out (like many other games of course), and it's still in Alpha so we don't necessarily know exactly where it's going from here. (Also I might update this every so often as the game progresses, maybe I won't, we'll see).

Wait until the developers get their stuff together before buying this game.

The idea is addictive and I love this as a great time-killer. The problem is the developer puts updates 3 weeks apart and they often don't make sense. Ideas are half-implimented, such as one updated created a glitch where there was no obstacles/cover. Would you like an update where, in L4D, you suddenly were in a big empty field too big to cross without a horde coming?

And it is out of order. They impliment a search feature which isn't complete yet, a perks feature hinted at, and armor which doesn't completely make sense.

The problem with all of this is the game features perma-death, so deaths by glitches and bugs and empty maps are permanent. Weapon and character lost. You don't create a game, update to feature a half-completed shotgun, and say "hey, try out this weapon! It's really cool, but doesn't actually reload, but we're working on that!" No, they didn't say it like that, but it's how the updates sound.

Also, there's a pirated version around, so they may not actually get the will to try to earn a paycheck from the legit Steam one. A real shame as this game would be awesome in better hands.

In its current state the game in un-playable unless you have the reflxes of a 14 year old. They need to add a tactical pause like FTL has so that you can accurately tell your guys what to do as it stands right now half the time you die because you can not give commands fast enough.
