In the flavour of trying to keep you guys updated, here's a super quick update on how things are going!
Those of you who follow the Trello will have seen the sheer number of items that have been getting passed to test over recent weeks (if you're new to it, check out the "submitted for testing" column) but you'll have also seen a weird item in there called "Tim's List" which hasn't been getting touched for the longest time. That is a compilation of items coming from one of the testers in particular who is VERY thorough, and every time I send him a build, he manages to find every little thing that's broken with it, and since he's able to find so many things, I put all of his items into that one list rather than make separate cards for each item.
Anyway, he went on such a bender with finding issues with the new magic system that I kinda just left that card for a while and focused on all the other items first while he finished finding everything he could, but this past week or so I've finally run out of other items and have moved onto the Tim List. It DID have 36 items in it, and is now down to 19 (though I just submitted a new build to test last night hahaha) but it gives you an idea of how much development momentum I've had lately. Lots of late nights, let me tell you... But it was my birthday recently and my lovely wife bought me a really nice new Bialetti French Press coffee maker, so that's been getting some pretty serious use to keep me going. As a big coffee drinker, it's certainly helped!
Anyway, as a side note, all of the lovely recipes you submitted have all gone into the game now, so thank you so much for those! We've also had a lot of positive response to that side of things, too. Despite it only being an hour or so's work for me, I hope it brings you guys a lot of tasty cooking adventures along with your exploration!
I'll get you more info as I get even closer to finishing this humongous update!
Rather not watch a video and look at my ugly mug? Here's the gist!
- People have been calling the project vapourware. It's not. I'm just a lone developer doing my best.
- I hit a massive snag wherein I found that the language I'm writing the game in has a limit on the number of lines of code a project can have - a limit that no-one knew about and that cannot be worked around.
- After WEEKS of panicked experimentation, fearing it would put an end to the project, I found that I can work around that limitation by inventing my own scripting language, building an interpreter for it into the engine and then breaking out huge swathes of the game's code into external script files which I can then bring in, thus not contributing to the number of lines of code in the game.
- Doing this had the unexpected benefit of starting to make the game SUPER moddable, which I'm actually quite excited about.
So the tl;dr version of this is that a huge snag was hit in production which I eventually overcame and things are back on track for the update! No vapourware here, so calm your cucumbers!
“Old school RPG with modern technology? Check. Looking for funding? Check. Is Malevolence: The Sword of Ahkranox worthy of your money? Check.”

“As a huge fan of games like the Might and Magic series ... I am pretty excited for this game.”
“There’s a glowing green circle on the dungeon floor. Should I stand on it? Of course I should. Green means go. Nothing bad is ever green. So I step into the circle, and it poisons me. But look, that’s OK. Hit points are falling off me in clumps, like hair off the elderly, but over there on the wall is a font of pure, life-giving water. I race toward it and drink: it is also poisoned. Stumbling and reeling, I step back from the vile stuff onto a spike trap and die.”
