About This Game

Explore, craft, and survive in this Multiplayer RPG Platformer with permanent death! Featuring many Rogue-like elements, Magicite randomly generates each underground dungeon for you and your friends to delve deep into. Chop trees, mine ores, and hunt beasts in order to collect the resources and materials you need to survive the harsh and unforgiving environment. With a ton of character traits, stats, companions, and classes, players will have a different experience each play through! Be prepared to die... A LOT.

Magicite's main influences were Monster Hunter and Spelunky. I loved the resource collection and crafting in Monster Hunter, and of course fighting giant monsters with my friends. Spelunky's brutal yet rewarding platforming was also something that I wanted to capture with Magicite.

Features:
  • Randomly Generated Dungeons - Experience a new dungeon each time you play. Expect tons of trees to chop, ores to mine, plants to harvest, and bugs to catch! Oh and giant monsters.
  • Permanent Death - The game logs all of your stats in a play through, leading the way for achievements and upgrades.
  • Crafting System - Combine any two items to create a new one! For example, Wood + Wood = Plank. There are tons of combinations to discover!
  • Combat System - If you plan on just running in and swinging you sword, you're gonna get wrecked. Take time to craft useful items and examine enemy positioning before executing a well timed attack.
  • Unlockable Races, Hats, & Companions - The more you play, more greater chance you'll unlock awesome new hats with a variety of special effects. Races and Companions can also be unlocked to provide different starting items and stats!
  • Multiplayer - Want to put your friendships to the test? This is the game to do it! Permanent death only occurs when the ENTIRE party has fallen. So if your buddy gets knocked out feel free to run over and help him back up. Or not...

This game is a very fun, fast-paced side scroller that I have enjoyed very much over the past year or so that I have had it. I found this to be very difficult, but in a way that makes you want to keep going and get better. I'm very excited to see what this company has in stock for the community next after Roguelands!

Like the description says, Magicite is a singleplayer or CO-OP platformer with rogue-like elements. However if you like complex RPGs this isn't what you want to buy. The RPG elements include getting better armor (which really means increasing your health so you can take more hits), getting stronger weapons, and miniscule character creation (which includes clicking on a stat randomizer over and over again until you get the only 2 useful abilities from a pool of about 10). The game also features a almost functioning crafting system which quickly becomes a hassle to deal with when you need to quickly craft something and you're stuck fumbling through your incredibly small inventory. However these issues can be looked over because of the very simplistic and cute design, which is understandable for a game of this magnitude, but note: it's not and RPG.

The gameplay, while for the most part (in single player) is sufficient, the lack of any real combat diversity makes the game feel very repetitive. The melee sytem consists of being near an enemy and left clicking until it dies. The ranged combat systems feel a little bit more diverse but still lack any real differentiation in attacking styles. The magic doesn't make much sense as, I can tell you, the only magic you'll ever find useful is the fire staff, which shoots a flaming projectile and nothing else. The enemies you will fight consist of 3 main types, annoying flying creatures that go through walls, land creatures that you can stunlock to death, and bigger land creatures that you can stunlock to death. None of which really make the game interesting or fun. The atmosphere is nice with every area but most late game enemies are just recoloured versions of earlier ones. Which takes away from any sense of progression one may have had.

Multiplayer, which the game brags to be a strong point is a complete and utter mess. I tried to play with several of my friends and we enountered a pletera of connection issues and game breaking bugs. It took more then 6 tries to even load into the first area without atleast one person to have a fatal bug effect them. One of these bugs includes the map not loading, and the bug can happen every time you enter a new area which kills any reason to play multiplayer. Other issues include teleporting enemies, game crashes and getting stuck inside of walls. Don't buy it if you plan on playing with friends.

Pros:
-Cute art style which is visually appealing to the eyes
-Simple to understand mechanics

Cons:
-Not an RPG
(there's no roleplaying, or really a game either)
-Music that sounds like a drunk man with a slide guitar
-Lack of combat diversity (Repetitiveness
-Plethera of game breaking bugs
-Overly simplistic/Lack of detail

Final Rating: 2/10

So yeah, I love this game but after a while it's kinda bleh. The combat gets repetetive and boring after a while and the enemies are the same. The enemies are just retextured versions of eachother. The combat is just you standing next to an enemy and clicking Left mouse button until it dies. Other than that the art style is nice and the town music is soothing. a small tutorial would be nice and after you craft something that tip at the bottom should dissapear. Also, inventory space is a big problem after you start getting stuff because crafting become a hassle. There should be a side gui for crafting somewhat like minecraft since everything is made with 2 components. If not that, then backpacks should be a craftable item of varying size depending on the materials used (regular hide for small sized backpack, and then like in increases by 2 slots every tier) Infact I actually like that idea of backpacks more than a side gui. Or both. but that seems eccessive being that there are not a lot of items. I feel like there should be more weapons and that skills should be able to be picked. And character creation is little to none, which subtracts from the rpg side of this. You should also be able to pick what traits and stats you want since I end up clicking away at the stats button till I get what I want anyways; so it seems pointless to make traits and stats random, more like a waste of time to me. Also the amount of multiplayer bugs is crazy. Loading into an area is always scary and it's super laggy. I wouldn't reccomend buying this if you're just wanting to play with your friends because I have to say the multiplayer isn't worth it right now.

TL;DR:
Pros:
- Cute Art Style
- Easy to learn
- (atleast in my opinion) The music in the towns is really nice.
Cons:
- repetetive combat for all classes (really lacking in diversity)
- inventory too small
- character creation is little too none, and takes WAY too long due to the fact that your stats and traits are completely random everytime you make a new character.

Rating: 5/10
I love the game but it's also really frusterating and I'd recommend waiting untill more updates come.

The game isn't terrible, the gameplay is simple but pretty fun and addictive.
The problem is that the game isn't really finished. There isn't much content, there are lots of bugs. The developer abandoned it to make Roguelands (which is basically an improved, scifi, version of Magicite). Not much reason to get this instead of just going for Roguelands

Magicite is a fun little indie game with some pretty cool tricks up it's sleeves. Magicite is a rogue like survival platformer. The game is very restrictive at first with your customization but as you progresss and get better and better at the game, you are given more and more options. I found this game very charming and it felt very rewarding anytime I finished a zone. I definitely reccomend this game to anybody who's into games like Terraria and Starbound.

It's been said, but this is the only game that makes you want to try again after dying on the final boss numerous times.
The music is good.
Everything feels fair.

Magicite is a 2d side scrolling, survival, crafting game. The game includes a basic character editor that allows you to customize the look of your character as well assigning stats. The game includes basic stats, 2 extra traits, and a race/class that assigns extra bonuses like starting items and shop discounts.

The gameplay is simple, intuitive and fun. It consists of moving, jumping, double jumping, attacking, and using items. I had a lot of fun just jumping around, exploring, and attacking everything. While it’s simple to control, Magicite is still a challenge. Death is permanent, so when you die, you start over again. All of the biomes were neat to look at and felt unique. The monsters of each biome all moved differently and didn’t feel repetitive.

The crafting system, resource collection, and item options are easy and work well but I felt it was a little too similar to other games in the genre. In future releases I hope the developers differentiate themselves more in this category.

Aside from crafting and fighting, the player earns gold which can buy new items and experience which leads to level ups and new skills.

If you like a challenging scroller and can get past some similarities to other games, Magicite is really fun and I enjoyed my time with it.
